I am planning a trip for two families of 3. One family will have a 18mo and other with have 2 1/2. We are staying 4 days in Sept and currently have 2 rooms reserved at WL with a reuqest for connecting. In researching pricing further with codes, I see that we can get a 2 Bedroom Villa at OKW for only $100 more than cost of 2 rooms at WL. I know that OKW will be better for naps and sleeping arrangements. I am not that familiar with OKW, but love WL. Any suggestions? Any other families with experince that can provide feedback?

Well, one issue I see is who gets the master bedroom? In all honesty it would make the most sense for it to be the family with the younger child who will still be in the crib to have the master bedroom (one king bed) while the family with the older child can take the other bedroom so they'll have a bed for the child as well.

That would be the big isue as far as I can see.

you need to check on the
dvc rental/trade board on this site
you might be able to stay at OKW for less than what you expected.

OKW only has bus transportation, it is surrounded by a golf course, so it is not close to an of the theme parks.

WL is a boat ride to the MK, you can the electric water pagen from the beach at night. WL is more themed than OKW (my opinion)

I love OKW - it is very relaxing - the master bath has a whirlpool tub that is great. the livingroom has a queen sleeper sofa, a love seat, another chair with an attoman, the dinning room is part of the living room, there is also a kitchen, there is a laundry room with a full size washer and dryer. the patio has a full size table (again seating for 4) so you can have breakfast there.

Well I really love OKW - any specific questions?

Spiceycat thanks for info. I do have a pretty good knowledge of the pros and cons of each resort and am a former cast member. I guess the advice I am looking for is helping to figure out which one to go for based on situation. I like Wilderness Lodge better than Old Key West, but I know OKW will be better on the family situation. Having a place to hang out while kids are sleeping. Wondering if anyone else was ever torn with decision similiar, which way they went or would go. Thanks for that advice on trade board, I will check out.

there is the new VWL with a 2-bedroom - now I don't know how much more this will cost - but you get to stay at an area near WL and since it is a DVC resort you can still rent points.

OKW
september - Sunday thru Thurs stay in a 2-bedroom = 22 points each night
Friday and Saturday = 54 points each night

VWL
september - Sunday thru Thurs stay in a 2-bedroom = 30 points
each night
Friday and Saturday = 60 points each night

points can generally be rented for $10 a point (sometimes less) so OKW would be around $220, and VWL would be $300 per night unless you are staying on a weekend.

Given the ages of the children, I would go for the OKW villa. The adults would have a very nice, comfortable area to relax in while kids napped or went to bed early. Plus full kitchen is a BIG plus with young children. I hate going out to eat 2 or 3 times a day with little ones. They just can't sit still too long, never mind over and over again. Also, you'll have nice cold drinks while relaxing in the livingroom in the evenings. The only reason I would lean towards WL is if you are going to be theme park "commandos". Then WL would be better due to location (very close to MK which I assume is where you'll spend a lot of time.) If the kids are just going to nap in the stroller and you aren't going to take afternoon breaks, then WL location wins out over OKW relaxing atmosphere. Good luck with you decision. Let us know what you decide. BTW, welcome to the boards!
