Wk Of Sept 29 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Big Vic--WTG on your 5 miler! Nutrition before running is something I need to work on as well. Glad to hear the bagel worked for you.

Kim--Awesome job on your half...you and your DH had great times! Doesn't it feel great to finish your first one!!

Becky--Great job on your run..especially when you went farther than you had set out to do!

Hope everyone else had great workouts today as well!

Kim -- congratulation, sweetie! I am so happy for you!

Sunny -- You rock, my friend! :lovestruc

To everyone nursing injuries including Colleen and Kristi -- sending you pixiedust:

I think I need some serious pixiedust myself. I woke up Friday with terrible pain in my back between my spine and my shoulder blade and thought I'd somehow pulled a muscle. It got progressively worse to where I ended up in the bathroom during the night crying and moaning in pain and trying not to wake Howard. When the alarm rang at 5, I'd had too little sleep and thought I'd sleep in. By 5:30 I started thinking about all of the strong runners here who work through pain, so I got up and went to the gym and did 10 miles on the treadmill, but no pump class. I literally couldn't move my right arm enough driving to make a sharp right turn, so I figured I'd be endangering life and limb of those aroudn me at a crowded muscle pump class.
Today, I barely can sit up straight. Whatever muscles we use to hold ourselves upright are screaming. I had similar pain at a much lower level about a month ago and my doctor, who is a DO, did an adjustment to my spine and it was nearly 100% better the next day. So, I'll call tomorrow and try to get an appt. I really don't want to start losing miles on my training since I was able to put in 10 this week instead of the required 8. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sorry this was all about me. Christa -- I am thinking about you, girl, and worrying about you and hopign you are feeling better.

Way to go Kim. I look forward to seeing your full report.

Sunny

Your favorite running doctor, Dr. Craig Stephenson, strongly recommends you walk the WDW full marathon on Sunday, January 13, 2008. Your physicians may disagree, and I know the MD's are the experts in this situation, but I hope you get the okay to walk the course in 15 weeks. We'll all be enriched if you are in the field.

Vic

Nice on the 5 today. Ran every step? Good for you.

Red Dragon

Great work today on your 12. I know you think you're going more slowly than your plan, but I clocked you today at 10:40 per mile for 200 meters, so if you are running anything near that pace for the entire distance, you are kicking tail and taking names. Remember your last 12+ mile effort was the 2006 WDW Half Marathon, and remember the full marathon is 15 weeks from today, so you are in great shape right now. I want you to be a "glass is more than half full" kind of girl. I want you to have nothing but positive waves about your training (and the bridge).

Cammie

Remember the most important thing you can do is be healthy when you step into the corrals on October 27 and January 13. Letting your body heal is worth a few days of lost training. The benefit far exceeds the cost.

I am running the BAA Half Marathon on October 7, so today was a 15K trial run, mostly to guage pace and effort. I hoped to hit the first 5K in 31 minutes, but I was running very easy and did it in 29:02. The next 5K was 28:48, and the last 5K I pushed a bit coming in 27:28. The net was 85:18, right at 9:09 per mile. If I carry this for the full half next Sunday I'll be right at 2 hours.

So the question is, do I make the half a training run, good work and a comfortable pace, or do I push it and try to come in sub-2 like all the group who broke 2 hours earlier this year?

Stephen, are you out there (in spite of the Steelers' stinker today :scared1: )? What would you recommend?

Tomorrow is October 1. 27 days to the Tower of Terror, and 105 to the Marathon. Is this a great country or what?

Craig

Kim & Stephanie - Congrats on your races. Great job! :thumbsup2

Cam- sending :wizard: your way. Hope you're feeling better soon. Several years ago I pulled the muscles in my back. It was the worst pain I ever felt.

Seems the weather was great and everyone had good runs this weekend! Congrats to all! I am jealous.

I've been on sick bay for the last four days  Don't know if it was just a cold or touch of the flu, but I had the fever, cough, congestion and overall tiredness. Pretty much stayed in bed since Wed. Wasn't even feeling up to reading the boards much at all. Got no training in at all :sad2: .
I'm still not over it, although I feel somewhat better. Hoping by tomorrow or Tuesday to get back to training. I have my 1/2 in SF 3 weeks from today!

I have to say I can't wait for the 2008 Goofy. If for no other reason than it will mean 2007 is over. It hasn't been a good year health wise for me, with injuries and being sick. I don't think I've ever had so many things go wrong, in a one year, in all my other 44 years.:confused3

I concur!

I was a big slug and did not exercise this weekend.
I was feeling really down on myself about it.

Now, I am still down, but for another reason. My knee is hurting this morning.
I thought with all this "rest" I'd be fine.
I have no idea why it is bothering my now - after lots of, ahem, rest. :-(
I am starting to freak a bit since ToT is not very far away!

Cam - keep us posted on your shoulder/arm/back pain. *hugs*

Morning all. We are heading back to Arkansas this morning--try to enjoy a few minutes of peace and quiet before waking the kids up. Sounds like we have a lot of injuries plaguing our team. PD to all those that need it!:wizard:  :wizard: My foot is feeling better today--thinking it might just be an overuse injury and not a stress fracture. Hoping that's the case.

We got our free Brooks yesterday--can't believe that I actually got "paid" to run the marathon--with shoes that retail for over $90, a tech running shirt, and a subscription to Running Times; I think that definitely covers the $70 entry fee!

Okay, better finish my coffee and then wake the troops. Have a great Monday all!

Good morning all.

Well have some achy bones today but the more I move around the better I feel, booked the day off work today. However, I might lose a toe nail. Middle toe nail on my right foot is almost black. Has anyone had that before??? There was a new course record on Canadian soil yesterday 2:09 and some seconds for the full marathon, there was a group of about 4 runners that hit the 18K mark when I was at about 6:confused3 I was in awe. On a sad note there was 1 man taken to hospital in critical condition but I didn't hear age or how he is doing now.:wizard: I will try and do a full report, never done one before:confused3 There was 13,000 people there:scared1:

OK time to catch up.

Renee How is the hip today????

Laurie Welcome back. WTG on your 9M. Yes it feels good to have the first one under my belt. However, I know I have work to do, my last 5K was very tough and I slowed down quite a bit. I have a new plan set for the DIsney 1/2 and hope to improve my time.

Big Vic WTG on running the entire 5M that is awesome!!!!

Kiena WTG on your milage that is great. I don't know about freshening up after:scared1: Never even thought of that. Any ideas anyone???

Becky Congrats on your run.....A alligator:scared1: WOW!!!!!

CAM Lots of hugs and PD coming your way:hug:  :wizard: :wizard: . Let us know how you are.:flower3:

TerriHope you are feeling better:sick: Here is to a healthy 2008:wizard:

Kristi Sorry to hear about your knee problems, you take care.

Stephanie Free Brooks, awesome. I use Brooks now but I went to buy a new pair to start working in before my current shoes where worn out and I couldn;t find my favorite type so I have gone to Sacouny (sp) I haven't worn them much yet but I think I prefer my old brooks.

OK , off to tidy the house. Have a great day all.

Kim

I've mostly been lurking on this thread and posting in the walkers thread. It is hard to keep up with all the thread I am subscribed to.

Stephanie--- Congratulations to you and DH on your marathon. Looks like you made out well with getting new Brooks sneakers.

Renee--Good job on your 10 mile LR

Laurie-- Glad to see your posting again. Good job on your 9 mile LR

Vic--- Good job on your 5 mile run.

Ironz--Welcome back from WDW. Looks like you are getting right back into training.

Kiena-- Weather was great in eastern PA also. Though both the Steelers and Eagles were enjoying the nice weather with the way they were playing. Good job on your 12-13 mile run.

Becky--Good job on your 10 miler.

Cam---Sending Pixie dust your way. :wizard:

Craig--- Good luck on your half marathon this coming weekend.

Terri---Sending pixie dust your way.:wizard:

Kristi-- Here is some pixie dust for your also :wizard:

Kim---Congratulations on finishing your first half and you had really good time. Glad that you could meet Beth, she is a great person. She did send me an email that she did finish the full. I will let her feel in the details. They are driving back today.

I did my 11 mile LW on Sat at the rail trail. With all the leaves and walnuts I really have to watch where I am walking at certain places. Next long walk will be in 2 weeks when I do the Baltimore half which I am using for a training walk. I really need a change of scenery as I am bored with my neighborhood, TM and the rail trail. Then after that half I will be heading to WDW so will have some different places to walk plus the ToT.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Hey everyone,

Got in a nice 10-mile run on Sunday. I finished in 1:23:35 which was about a 8:22 pace. It's odd but I seemed fixed on that exact pace. The weather was amazing in our area this weekend which made for a great run.

I'm getting ready for the LBI 18-mile run on Sunday. That will be the first time I have ran longer then 15 miles. Hopefully I can deal with the extra miles. I'm hoping I can knock out this race and get at least one 20-mile run before trying to do the Philly Marathon in November.

I can't remember anyone in Philadelphia feeling this good on a Monday after an Eagles loss to the Giants. However, our Fight'n Phils came through on Sunday with a great win on Sunday and a great season. We are the National League East Champs baby!! :cool1: It's a lot easier to stomach a loss to the Giants when the Phillies win and we get to see the Mets collapse. Worst collapse in Major League history. When you win once in 14 years you savor the moment and enjoy watching your rivals wallow in their misery. That’s what Philadelphia sports is all about.

It's a beautiful Monday!!

Good morning Race Team -

No training to report today, since I took a rest day after my 5K yesterday.

I just don't want to be left out of the fun so I'd better post something.

Cam - I'm calling you.

Kristi - Oh no, no knee issues now!

Kim - I am BEYOND proud of you!

Hi TEAM!

Kim - Congratulations on completing your first 1/2...how do you feel today?

Stephanie - Congratulations on your marathon....was this your first? What was your time? That's awesome you got a pair of new Brooks, what a nice gift.

I had my first marathon yesterday too and it didn't go well.. My time was 7.19 which means I didn't get my medal:headache: but what's more important is if I don't shave 19 mins. off my time I won't be finishing the Disney full:sad1: I think it was around mile marker 11 that I felt my right foot forming a blister around the ball of my foot. Boy, was that a whopper! Needless to say I wasn't walking my best and around mm19, the pain was killing me, but I pressed on. I think I'm going to look into buying a new pair of sneakers and see how they work for me. Anyway it was very discouraging and I almost cried when I saw my time.

I start training w/TNT in 2 weeks, so hopefully they'll have a coach who can help me improve my time because I want that Mickey medal!:yay:

Kiena I am jealous of the beautiful running weather there as well.
Good job on your run as well
Becky Good job on your run. I hear you about the alligators. A month or two a go I ran over the skin from a dead one, right there on the sidewalk. :scared1:
Cam LOTS OF :wizard: :wizard:  Hope the doctor can help right away you don't want to lose ground in your training. Let us know what happens.
Craig How about a really HARD training run. That's a good compromise. I am one to always push my self. Perhaps that's why I can't run right now and have to have back surgery :rolleyes1
Terri Lots of :wizard: :wizard: for you too. I truly hope you feel better soon!!
Kristi :wizard: Hope your knee if feeling better soon!!
Nancy Good job on your run and I am jealous you are doing the Baltimore, I spent a good bit of my growing up there and I have family there and was really interested in doing that one. :)
lourodrigis Good job on the run, awesome pace and I'm sure you will be FINE next week. I hear ya on the sports end. I am a USF BULL and we are just beside ourselves down here #6 in the Nation.

Have to go back to work now.

Have a good day everyone.

You're too funny! So I guess I have first and second opinions from Dr. Craig and Dr. Kristi. Just to be safe, I'll get a 3rd from Dr. Wasan!;)

Cam-- ouch! Please take care of that shoulder/spine pain. That sounds awful.

Kristi-- I'm sorry to hear your knee is still bothering you.

PD to all the WISHers with injuries.

I went to the Hanscom AFB gym today. I did recomb. bike for 30 minutes.

Sunny

Quick note- did my 5 miles Friday night on TM, did 6 miles yesterday outside (no Coach Harry (DS 17mo), though, since I didn't have my jogging stroller. Kind of missed the little guy with his yells of "hi" and "BYE BYE" at everyone we pass!)

Got to mark all my Sept dates in GREEN. Plenty scared of the upcoming months though!

Cam- I don't remember if I told you or not, but after the Minnie I was playing around with my daughter on the trampoline, and tried to do a flip. I've NEVER been able to do a flip, and guess what, that hasn't changed! :rotfl: I totally crushed my neck/shoulder. After two weeks of not being able to turn my head to drive because it hurt so much, I ended up at a chiropractors. Bottom line- all healed! :cool1: (and I think my running is better because she worked on my somewhat lopsided stance). Take care of yourself, I know how much that hurts!

My 6 miler today was really interesting. WWDave and I spent the first 1.5 miles bantering back and forth. We had just hit the 3 mile point when Dave asked me to call the garage to see about his jeep. Well, my cell phone decided it didn't like the pocket I put it in and plumb fell out somewhere. Dave wanted to check my car, but I knew I had it when we started walking. So, I went and retraced our route while he headed back toward the car. I had just covered the 1.5 mile out and started heading back when I saw Dave heading my way. As we neared he held up his hand holding my phone. It seems that it fell out of my pocket about a tenth of a mile from the car. I managed to kick the last mile or so much to Dave's surprise.

I wish PD to all our injured and ill team mates and hope ya'll get to feeling better quickly!!!

Congratulations to everybody who raced and had milestones this week!!

Erica:)

Just got back from being out of town so this is definitely a quickie.....

Congrats to everyone who had a good run or training session!

Monte: so sorry you missed out on getting the medal you wanted, but you finished! That's no small accomplishment, especially since you were injured and in pain. Give yourself a big pat on the back and know that lots of people....no, make that MOST people...... can't even come close to doing what you just did. So be proud! I'm assuming you have good shoes, but are you investing in good socks also? They will help prevent blisters are truly worth the extra money.

Jackie/Renee: I was away all weekend, but in the future please let me know when your kids have a game at Smith Creek ( and thanks for educating me about its proper name!) because I walk there all the time. In fact, there was a lady there a week ago Saturday with some type of cast on her foot and I actually asked her if her name was Jackie. (Both she and my husband thought I was a little nuts for doing that!)

Getting close to TofT....almost time to start packing!

Sorry had to throw that in there.

Angie,

The pathetic thing is that I'm a sports fan and I had to stop and think...Who are the USF Bulls? Don't be offended but Philadelphia is far from a college football town. The only Div I program we have is Temple and I don't have to say any more. You have a little Penn State following in the area but they are 4 hours away.

I looked them up and, yes, the USF Bulls are #6 in the country. Congrats on your Bulls.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post. I haven't read your posts this week yet, but I wanted to mention I had my first WISH encounter this weekend. I went to CT to run the Bigelow Tea race and I had the pleasure of meeting Judy and her husband Charlie. They were so incredibly nice. It's really neat how even though we'd never met before it was so easy to talk to them. And, I just have to say, you should have seen the smile on Judy's face when she crossed the line with a new PR. It was fantastic.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Hi folks,

Just an update....

Got my SLR in on Friday - 4 mi in 42:46 (10:42/mi)
Got my LLR in on Saturday with the group - 12 mi in 2:28:29 (12:22/mi)
Yesterday went hiking up in Banff on a trail called C-Level Cirque. It was mostly uphill the entire way 2 mi with 1500 ft in elevation gain. You passed an abandoned coal mining site along the way which was really neat. Also quite a bit of snow along the route. I guess that will be my last hike for 2007! It looks cold...and it wasn't warm...but it really was a gorgeous day to hike.
