Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Martha- The eclipse was truly awesome! My 11 yo DD wanted to come out and run with me. It was still dark here when we got up and the moon was already about 1/4 covered. We ran/walked for over an hour! We watched it until it was totally covered and appeared to be coming back. By that time it was sinking over our horizon and the sun was coming up. DD went back to bed when we got in.

Optimator- Loved your pro/con list! Have you finished Harry Potter?

Meghan74- Hope you get some relief soon!:wizard:

Windwalker- No, a smoking section in a restaurant is worse than a peeing section in a pool because I can continue to imagine that no one is peeing in the pool in which I am swimming but I can't imagine that no one is smoking in the restaurant in which I am eating. Perception is reality! :rotfl2:

Greetings -

I didn't get up until 6:00am this morning. Thus, no training. However, I do intend to do it as soon as I get home. A person can't come home from work at 5:00pm, do barn chores, put down cedar mulch and trim two bushes, shovel item #4 for an hour, go to the grocery store, come home and make dinner...and expect to get up at 4:15am the next day.

Vic - My AmphiPod! Geez.  It didn't work out anyway. I couldn't even handle a banana.

sasparillo - :welcome:

WWDave
- Are you going to believe everything Vic says? ;) I never thought of eating chips either. Cam did tell me to carry some salt packets, which I did. And I took one while we were waiting to get to the starting line at the Half this year. I'm glad I did! Can you imagine if I didn't? Oy! To answer your YARC QOTD, no, it is not the same. No one ever died from pee in the pool. :guilty:

Jackie - Excellent idea, waiting for your runner doctor. :thumbsup2 I swear I am not going to any more doctors unless they are endurance athletes. "Normal" people just don't understand. They think the answer to everything is "stop doing it". Umm, I don't think so.

Kristi - OK I can appreciate you not wanting the computer to take up too much of your life, but, well, it's no fun without you. :guilty: YAY on the run last night!

Mike - Ohhh there you are! THREE WEEKS at WDW??? I am positively lime green with total envy! Glad your back, your Baywatch life guard, you.

I'm really missing some people around here...Cam, Howard, Carrie, MSDave, Melissa, Kristi... Guess everyone's busy.... :rolleyes1

:goodvibes

Ok, so during yesterday's wog - before the peeing incident (I see a trend here with pee...) - I was thinking of certain WISHers during certain songs.

Carrie - Ok Go - Here We Go Again ;)
Cam - Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying
Christa - Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me

On the way home I decided I need a Judy song!
Maybe I could put the Star Wars theme on for SWDave:yoda: ... or a song about Brazil or something.
And I have a ton more WISHers to put a song to!
(the things I come up with during my 45 min. commute!)

Oh, and I had to edit my siggie. My boyfriend is one of the judges on a new reality tv show this fall.
Don't get me started on how I HATE so-called reality tv - but if John is on there every week - I'll be watching!

Well TEAM I went to Denver last night for my first Team in Training meeting and I must say it was quite the tear jerker. They had a 5 year leukemia survivor speaking and he gave of alittle feel of what cancer patients go through. As you know my step son, Aaron, is battling Accute Lymphoma Leukemia and that is why I'm walking the WDW marathon. I'm not a good sales person, but thought I would ask if anyone can donate to this cause... my family and I would appreciate it. My site is: www.active.com/donate/tntrm/tntrmmmiller2
I won't bother you again with this, but I do so appreciate your help. Donations are 100% tax deductible:goodvibes Thank you again and I'll see you soon!

"She thinks my tractor's sexy
It really turns her on
She always staring at me
While I'm chuggin' along..."
I am an ABC girl - anything but country. If this is country - too bad! :rotfl:

There is a Goo song called "Fallin' Down."
You know - like you after the Half last year? :lmao:

OK I can see I will NEVER live that down.

Very seriously, you know what song gives me goosbumps every time I hear it? That Melissa Etheridge song about why she runs. :sad1: It's terribly sad but so uplifting at the same time.

Ya know I don't think I could run to that song, the tempo isn't quite fast enough, but it is my ring tone on my cell phone!!

Oh wow monte!

I will bookmark your page and add it to my "to be contributed to" list!

I am a 2-time TNT participant! I was a mentor the second time.

Don't forget--if anyone's company does matching....get a form and find a way to get it to monte--it will double the donation.

NM--done...I tend not to remember despite my best efforts. Good luck with your fundraising! $25 heading your way. :)

Make sure you enjoy all the weekend festivities! They do the Pasta Party at EPCOT. John Bingham was our keynote speaker a couple of years ago. With all they show--you might shed a tear. Make sure to bring your little hero with you if he can make it!

Almost got some XT in today, but notwithstanding a diligent effort, I could not get my shoes tied due to back spasms kicking in. I realize that strollers, etc. are not allowed at the ToT and marathon events, but how about a cane? Maybe I could break out the walker again and put some racing slicks on it (maybe incorporate it into a costume for ToT anyway). Its a good thing I have loafers for just such occassions.

Wait a minute. There is some good country, especially the old stuff. Like: "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy" and "She got the coal mine and I got the shaft." Don't write off all country based on the newer pop/country stylings.

Good job training everyone. Try to get in an extra step or two for me (though I guess it won't really count). If nothing else, I hope to map out tonight my training plan of attack for the next 20 weeks.

Hi, WISHers!

So sorry to those with injuries -- patsbill, Jackie et al! Sending some PD your way!

My xt today has consisted of weeding all the flower beds, dead-heading all the flowers, vacuuming all the baseboards and washing all the wood floors. I've got to polish the wood floors and I think that will do it for today. Not as much fun as cycling, but definitely needs to be done!

Can't believe the ToT is now officially LESS than 2 months away! :scared1: I know I'll be ready; not sure about DD. I've got to get her out tonight somehow.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Welcome, glad you joined us. Just be warned that some people on here "Just Ain't Right". I'm one of the few normal ones.

Then I will fit right in!

That was a good walk 5 miles in 90 min, sounds like you are well on the way. I was wondering what that 3/3/3/LSD program was?

Most walking programs I've read suggest you be able to walk 3 miles 3 days a week, and then a long, slow distance day on the weekend to build up your distance. Your basic maintenance is 3/3/3/4, and 12-16 weeks out from the marathon you start adding to the weekend number. I don't know if that's what most people do because I've never done this before! :goodvibes

Hi, everyone! I am so sorry I have been MIA. It has been a combination of LTO and WTO with some "emergency" proceedings. The crazy work schedule, coupled with getting 3 people ready for back to school (oh, okay, I admit, Howard got himself ready ;) ) I just had to help get DDturning19thisweekend back to campus on 8/17 for band camp and then moved into her dorm on 8/22; and DS14 needed all sorts of clothes, etc. DD had her first day of sophomore year college classes today and DS had orientation for high school with classes starting Thursday. He's been busy with marching band since 8/6, so at least he saw some familiar faces and knew most of the layout of the school

It is so good to see so many people reporting in on their training. I just cannot believe the number of miles our WISH team is racking up every week. In some respects I am really looking forward to getting back to those 20+ total mile weeks!

Training has been woefully inconsistent for me. I've at times resorted to a 33 minute leslie sansone walk& jog DVD to get in some activity and I have continued with the crunches and pushups every day. We got in a short LW/R Sunday, as Howard mentioned. I only had time for 4.5 miles but they were all at or below 15:00 pace despite the heat and lack of training. I am truly dreading the longer training sessions for the full, but am glad to come here and feel re-motivated and re-invigorated.

I just signed up for a 25 minute core strengthening class on Thursday nights and a 50 minute muscle pump class on Saturday mornings, so that even if I only have time for one or two wogging sessions a week, I can still look forward to some non-impact sessions. Our fitness center re-opened yesterday with all sorts of great new equipment. Looking forward to checking it out tonight.

Thank you so much Lisa, I really appreciate your help. I like to think that maybe my donations will help find a cure. Thanks again for your help:love:

Lisa - Thanks for your help! My knees feel mostly achy more than anything. No popping, pulling, etc. I have been doing alot of stretches today and I took my girls out with me for a 1.5 mile walk. I walked slow, at one point I jogged to catch up to my 6 year old and my knee hurt. I think I will get out and walk some more this week, but no running. I just hope all is well by the race this weekend. Again, thanks for your encouragement!!

Thanks to all for the good lucks at DL this weekend!!

Becky

I did 36 min on the TM yesterday, just an easy pace close to 14 at R4/W2. Foot is holding up ok (thanks for asking, Vic :) ) though a little miffed about not getting a full 2 weeks off. I did manage to wear real shoes to work today :thumbsup2 instead of my old Saucony's.

Jen...you'll do great! I think we're pretty evenly matched. We both hit sub 60 min on the 5 miler about the same time. I'm going to do tempo runs at R3/W2 on Wed to see if I can squeak out some more speed, but it will be up to my foot on that one.

:welcome: sasparillo!

welcome back OptiMike!

LTO for me for awhile. I have an endoscopy tomorrow...going to ask for minimal sedation so I can still plan to do my run tomorrow night. DH doesn't think it's a good idea (he's had endoscopy before), but I'm not known for being a good patient :rolleyes1 And I'm working on the side, doing some medical writing that's keeping me busy in the evenings. That and DD14's band schedule doesn't leave much free time!

Hey all, still no training for me, but I am thinking about it. I got an email from John Bingham and in it you can sign up for a free training plan for the Rock N Roll Marathon which just so happens to be the same day as WDW. The plan is pretty much the MFM plan from what I can tell, but this allows me to log my workout and sends me email reminders about my training. Right now with my crazy life, I need all the help I can get!!!! So after tonight I should be able to start doing something.

Right now I am home alone with the Piano tuner. My DD6 is taking lessons through school and I thought it was time to get rid of the TWANG in the piano!!! Speaking of school, DD is doing OK except she got a bloody nose on the way home tonight. It happened on the bus and she was quite upset about it. So now I am soaking her clothes because they are new school clothes and she thinks they are ruined. DD4 starts pre-school tomorrow. Did I mention that my babies are growing up????

Mel - What is the endoscopy for? I think we are well matched also. I hope I can run with you at least for part of the full. It would be nice to have someone to talk to. I plan to do some speedwork also, if my foot allows. I also hope that my additional weight loss will lighten my steps up!!!

Cam - It's good to see you posting!!!!!

Monte - That is wonderful that you are running for someone. I run for my mom because she can't. She has had cancer twice, a teeny stomach and one lung. But she is a fighter and my running to stay healthy gives her great joy. I was very inspired by all the TNT runners that put pictures and saying on their singlets. Good luck with your fundraising!!!!

Kristi - ABC girl... HAAAA that is too funny. Oh by the way, I ordered those DVD's and they came when I was on vacation. I can't wait to dig into them for some cross training. I kept forgetting to thank you for the post about them!!!!

SWDave - Hey, where are you? Let me know when you are around and I will give you my review of Pop Century!

OK, I gotta get something done. Or not, DH and the kids are gone so I guess I could be lazy if I wanted to!

As a veteran of many endoscopies, I vote for the drugs! :thumbsup2

Jen - you are welcome! Mine came too - just haven't used any of them. I only had one of the already also - the jogging one.

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE!!

I sure have missed you guys!! I will admit I have had no time to read so I am VERY sorry for the complete drive by.

I have been very busy with work, leaving tomorrow for an overnight trip to Panama City and Pensacola!

MY training has been horrible:sad2: , DH is doing awesome:woohoo:

My back is not getting better, in fact it's getting worse DH told me if I don't call doctor this week he will take me there himself :scared:

On top of that came down with double ear infection, cold, cough got antibiotcs last night after trying to fight it myself - the old fashioned way with oj and vit C for 2 weeks!! And it's 100 degrees here. OK enough complaining and I will call doctor about my back, first thing Friday morning when I get back from my trip.

I hope everyone is doing well, go team :yay: !!

angie

Mel -- good luck with the endoscopy!

Angie -- I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. Sending you pixiedust:

Jen -- poor kid! I hope she's doing better, though I'm glad school was good today.

Got to the gym tonight for a brief TM session -- 5 minute warmup and then 40 minutes alternating between walking at 4 and jogging at anywhere from 4.2-4.8. Trying to build up endurance for running, even very slowly. I jogged for 1/2 mile straight tonight and it felt like I was in slow motion but it still felt good to be able to jog that long. I have such a long way to go to do considerably better than last year's marathon, but at least I'm starting to worry about it more than 3 months out. :lmao:
Total mileage this week:
Sunday -- 4.5
Tuesday -- 3.11 (291 calories burned)
