How does Disney know who is really in the rooms? I know it’s kind of the sign of the times and all, but it seems a little sketch to me😨

Online check-in isn’t a new thing, I’ve never gone to the front desk before going to my room. I could’ve brought any number of unregistered guests with me and Disney would have no idea, it’s something of an honor system.

I've also exclusively used online check in for a few years now (only stopping by if we had issues).

How did they know before? I probably could get a fake id that would fool a front desk for like $100 if someone cared.

I mean even 20 years ago only one person would go to the front desk so they didn't know who else was in a room.

The last time I went to a Hyatt, I checked in without seeing a person....

Eyes are everywhere. IMHO as soon as you step foot on the grounds security has eyes on you. I don't think Disney is going to drop security measures completely, I feel comfortable they are keeping an eye on who is coming and going. No I don't imply they have cameras in the rooms, but on the grounds you bet.

They don't know, but as a PP pointed out, they never knew. You could check in at the front desk as a solo traveler, then bring 5 family members to stay in your room. I do not advocate that, but it's always been possible.

Before or maybe even just after our first trip in 2010, if you were staying on a free dining package you had to have everyone at checkin. FWIW.

They never really knew, as others have pointed out, and honestly I don't know that I "get" why it matters. Some hotels still require that "everyone show ID," but it's nonsense. They don't check it against anything, they don't run it for outstanding warrants or check the federal s-offender database, so it's not like checking ID actually does anything to protect guests (or the hotel). In theory it could be used to ban people who have caused problems from future stays, but only if a) they showed their ID in the first place, b) the ID they used the first time was their real name, c) when they come back they have to show their ID again, d) the ID they show the second time has the same name as the ID they used the first time, and e) anyone actually checks the name against an internal list.

So speaking from experience...I used to never put real people on my room...example... family yes they are always put on my room...but if I traveled with a friend, I always just booked the room with me and whoever was in my Disney experience app...just being lazy it was easy to do.

Then came the time a buddy and I met a bunch of friends for guys weekend at Disney. Room had my name and my wife's name on the reservation, so he was not on it. We all went to City Walk one night and got a little bit crazy. My friend went back by himself in a taxi....the rest of us went back in a different taxi van. We got back to Port Orleans and him not being with us, got back at a different time and couldn't remember the room number or building location...all of the rest of the group went and chatted over a few beers at a quiet pool. With no cell phone to call us, Disney would not tell him my room number because he was not on the resi. They tried calling, but I was not in our room..lol...so he spent the night in Mickey Jail. In the morning I got a call from the front desk to ask if I knew him...and they brought him home.

So now I always put the correct name on the resi and we still do the guys trip every year, but now we all take pictures of the room number and the building number.

In not sure if Disney would know, but Disney now does security checks every day and you cannot opt out. Luggage for one person vs. Five would be a difference.

I honestly wouldn't chance it at Disney, there is so much security and cameras. One time I travelled by myself with a six year old. (I'm handicapped). We had more personnel asking if we needed a nything, how was things. It seemed Disney did know iof our coming and going.

I believe Disney reserves the right to void reservations, if you are not in compliance,wi th their rules.

DVC has been skipping the front desk for what I think is a couple of years already. The only time we hit the front desk is if there's some kind of problem. I don't particularly like it, but it's what they do.

Since online check-in started we select an early arrival time..open the MDE app when we get on property...we usually get our text that our room is ready and if it is then we don't even go to the guard shack, we just use the returning guests gate with our magic band and then go right to our room. Up until recently when we did that we were never charged the parking fee because the guard shack would put that you had a car, and since we never went to it we weren't charged, but now the parking fee it seems is automatic. I assume they see we are from Florida and the system just assumes we are driving...no biggie

We'd done that, too, but the last time we were at DVC overnight was in February, and the returning guest gate didn't work with our magic bands and we were told we needed to go to the guard shack on the first entry.

We have done online check in and bypassed the front desk on all of our trips over the last several years. Disney does random room checks and I suspect that may slow down some given Coronavirus, but I'm less concerned given how few people ever went to the front desk under normal/non-COVID times and now it's so few guests checking in anyway, I would presume Disney does little to verify attendance.

Honestly, the COVID situation has basically taken security out of the mix. We're now into temp checks and masks so bag and room checks are not critical anymore.
