Hi DIS'ers!

With all the announcements and construction going on around Disney and Universal namely these key attractions:

1. Universal announced Skull island Reign of Kong summer 2017 (Universal Studios Orlando official site)
2. 2017 (or 2018) - Avatar rumored opening date
3. 2020 - estimated Star Wars opening date (just my own guess based off listening to Podcats, random blogs etc); Hopefully Toy Story Land too!
4. 2021 - possible opening of Volcano Bay maybe even some Nintendo characters action?

When do you plan to go? I was thinking Maybe a trip in 2018 for good measure for the first half of events and Maybe 2021 to catch the later ones? What are your thoughts and how do you decide to go based on construction?

We always planned on returning in 2018 for my 50th and DD graduation before any of these recent announcements and we are sticking with that plan.

We can't wait to get back and with all the new things coming after that it will give us a good reason to go back in 2022.

Yes. I just looked again. Another website I was looking at said 2021 but the Orlando sentinel said 2017

I hope that we'll be at Universal for Halloween Horror Nights in 2017. The rest is a bit too far out to think about but I don't plan to go back to WDW for a while after this year.

I don't follow rumors, haven't heard of Volcano Bay or Skull Island. My next solo trip will be to universal when ever they send me a good discount code (or whenever DH takes another scuba trip). I did WDW solo in May 2014, DH and I did a short Dec trip in 2014, and I did a solo trip again in Sept 2015 so I feel like a 2 year break from Disney. Maybe go in Oct 2017 for our 30th anniversary.

I go on a regular basis and will continue to do so no matter what is or isn't opening. construction has had very little closed so far and hasn't taken away from my trip....

However, if everything goes as planned i'm moving to orlando next year (partially to save money and just live near my favorite things and vacation elsewhere). If i"m in the area, I'll be in line opening day of everything!

Kong is supposed to be open for summer next year not 2017,I would hope Avatar will be around this time as well but who knows.Volcano Bay is already in construction so it'll open probably in 2017.You also have the two coasters at Sea World and Busch Gardens opening next year,Mako and Cobras Curse and the Fast and Furious and Jimmy Fallon attractions at Universal probably in 2016-2017.As far as the Star Wars and Toy Story projects,I'm not even going to worry about those as those are probably going to take 3-5 years at the speed Disney works.

We have APs and already have 2 trips booked for next year. After that we will probably give WDW a break as we hit a few other vacation destinations and return after Avatar opens. We'll hit US when we come back for Avatar.

We will go every year regardless. However, we have extended family that are talking about coming with us on one of our upcoming trips. Since this is likely to be their only trip for quite a while (or ever?), I am thinking of how construction may impact them. They had been thinking about 2017, but I'm probably going to advise them to wait a while longer, maybe 2018.

We were originally planning 2016 and then 2018 to catch Avatar... and not got far enough to plan for Star Wars and Toy Story Lands yet!

Might be moving the 2018 trip forward a year (to make the most of trips with older generation of family members), so I'm aware we might miss Avatar, but who knows? Difficult to plan around at the moment.

Universal's construction will not affect us.

I'm hoping Star Wars Land will be before 2020. If they start next year, it shouldn't take 4 years. I know they took a lot of time on Avatarland but the rest of the park was operating fine. DHS will be pretty dead during the construction so I think they will speed it up (hire more workers).

If I wait for Disney to finish construction, my kids will be married with kids of their own, LOL

We are going to do DL in 2016 or 2017. Then WDW again in 2017 or 2018.

With a preschooler (who just went twice this last year (2 short trips of 2 park days each)) .. I probably won't wait for the new lands for the next trip. I live close enough now (9 hour drive) that I don't mind going for a short trip and use our already paid-for park tickets (no-expiration tickets). I will probably wait to go after the new Frozen ride is up and when my son is a few inches (40") to be able to ride on a few more things .. but that means maybe a trip in 2016 or 2017.

Since going with a toddler is slow moving (and requires afternoon naps) .. we still missed a lot and will have plenty to do if we go back before the new lands open. It is sad though that he may outgrow the Toy Story stuff (which he is big into RIGHT NOW) by the time Toy Story land comes out.

I'll probably save the BIG trip with the extended family for when at least two of the new lands are open (or partially opened) (when my son is maybe 5-6).

I can see park attendance being insane from 2017 - 2020 while all those new attractions opening up.

I'll see it when I see it, but I go often enough that I should be able to see them relatively shortly after they open. I will usually give it 6 months for the crowd to die down, but if I'm there, I'll go.

We're hoping to go when each of the kids is five. So 2017 or 2018, and then 2021 or 2022. For us it will be more about when we have the money saved than construction.

The construction seems so uncertain, but if something really cool is opening up just after we've made plans I could see moving our trip out six months or so.

We are waiting until fall/winter 2017 - hoping Pandora will be open. I suppose if not, we can push back to spring 2018, but I don't really want to wait that long and may break down. ;)

Then we won't be back until both Toy Story and Star Wars lands are finished.
