...wishful thinking..anyone got room upgrade?

I've heard rumors about room upgrades. What is involvedf? Anyone got upgrade? please reply.

We got a room upgrade about a month before our cruise (6/28). We went from a cat 8 to a cat 6. Our TA called and let us know to change our docs by hand. I don't think we did anything special. I think it is just luck! I know our cruise is virtually sold out, so I am sure that helps.

I booked directly w/ DCL and about 4 weeks before our 5/15 3 day, when I checked my reservation on line, I noticed we were upgraded from a category 5 to a category 4.

DCL didn't call me with that info until a week before we were leaving.

We got an upgrade the week before our cruise date from a Cat. 11 to Cat. 9. It was a total surprise and we were on our first time Disney Cruise.
We had not requested any particular cabin and I don't know if that may make a difference. Not sure if you'd requested a particular cabin if they'd be as apt to want to move you. Others may have more information or views on that.
Worked out well for DCL as we wouldn't go less than a Cat. 9 now and are trying a 7 next time.

Grumbo, Thanks for your reply. How close was it to your travel date did you get the upgrades. We're booked on 10/18/03, it might be too early to bug DCL now.

It was approximately one week prior. I got a call from our travel agent who had been called by DCL.
We never even considered the chance of an upgrade so we didn't call to enquire. I would think October is a bit far off to ask. Then again I don't know if you can get one by "asking" as opposed to paying if it is your suggestion.
As I said others on here may be more savvy at this though.

We were upgraded from a Cat.6 to a Cat.4 on our Dec 2001 4-night cruise. BIG difference in the size of the cabin.

Because it was post-911, I just assumed that it was Disney's way of thanking us for not canceling our ressies. The ship was at about 3/4 capacity and the final payment had been due just a couple of weeks after the terrorist attacks. I'm sure a lot of people were still too nervous to travel at that time.

We already had our cruise documents in hand when the TA called to congratulate us on our upgrade. I think it may have been only a week prior to sailing.

We booked a catagory 5 for our 6/12/03 cruise, then upon check in they told us they upgraded us to a catagory 4. Just DH and I what a wonderful surprise!!

I had requested a specific cabin (5632) Cat 7 for our Eastern Magic last month, booked last Fall. We received a call from DCL just a few days before sailing and they told us we'd been upgraded to a Cat 4. It was great! I really don't think there's any rhyme or reason for who they select... it really seems random to me. We booked through DU.

I just got upgraded for my cruise on 10-12-2003. I went from a 11 to a 9. We booked with Costco about three weeks ago. The papers came today and there was the upgrade.

We only found out about our upgrade at the port. We went from a Cat 9 to a 7 with a navigators verandah. The CM on the desk said "Your TA must have some clout" but we believe it was just random. There was a sign up saying the cruise was full and no upgrades or room changes were available so we really considered ourselves lucky. All our luggage was tagged with the original number so it went there and it was delivered to us eventually.

I have to say it was a total thrill. We hadn't cruised before but are now totally hooked on the idea of doing it again. Really wish Disney would cruise the Mediterranean, We would go every year!!

We got an upgrade on our 3 day Wonder cruise from a cat 9 to a cat 5! We went from a porthole to a verandah.

Our TA (DU) had sent us an email a week before - but we were already on our way to visit relatives first! Didn't find out til we were checking in. Still got all our bags and everything.

Don't know what rhyme or reason DCL upgrades - but sure am glad they did.

Before we went on the Feb 2000 Wonder my DD's (10 and 8 at the time) watched Titanic. We had a Cat. 9 booked and they asked where our rooms on the ship. I found a design on line and showed them. The lower part of the ship. The were concerned because that is where the people on the Titanic in the movie got locked downstairs. It was about 4 weeks before we were to sail. I called DCL and they upgraded us to a Cat 6 verandah for 50.00 per person. Big mistake.......that's all DW and DD's will allow me to book now. I was told if you want a comp. upgrade you tend to get one quicker if your package is paid off earlier!?!? Good luck
