I am thinking we'll have an earlier dinner and then go back up to the observation deck to watch Wishes. I know Cali Grill pipes the music into the restaurant...how about on the observation deck?

Yes, they do. They must've forgotten on our night eating there though, because there was no music for the first half of the show! When the restaurant announces '5 minutes till Wishes starts!' everyone literally runs out to the observation deck. I would get on the deck before the 5 minute announcment so you have a good view. We had an awful view because we were on the other side of the restaurant so were the last to get there!
How's the view from Cali Grille? Is it straight-on or at a weird angle? (I ask because unlike, say, Illuminations, Wishes is specifically designed to be seen from the front of the castle.)

It's at an angle. The result is the high fireworks are seen as going off over Space Mountain, rather than the castle. If you want to see Wishes as it was designed to be seen, you should be watching from inside the park.

Well I'm specifically thinking of watching the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party fireworks from outside the park, so I'm looking for dinner places with good vantage points.
