This trip was the first time I got to see Wishes and I LOVED the show! We saw it twice. Once from the Tomorrowland bridge and once from Fantasyland (both spots had been recommended to me). I think I preferred the Tomorrowland bridge in general. We are going back to WDW in May and I'll probably try the Tomorrowland bridge spot again and probably one new spot. Where can I stand where the fireworks appear to be behind the castle? Where do you like to be to watch Wishes?

The "sweet spot" for that framing is right near the entrance of the Ice Cream shop at the castle-end of Main Street.

Agree - or if this area is crowded, try the platform to the train! :thumbsup2

Oops!

The train station is a spectacular spot to watch the "Spectromagic" parade.

And a "LESS than great" spot for watching "Wishes".

The reason is, while they DO kill all the outside lighting on Main Street and the train station platform during Spectromagic, they DO NOT turn off the LIGHTS of the train station area (where you are standing) during the Wishes show.

In fact, while they DO kill the lights on Main Street closer to the castle end of the block during Wishes, in recent months, they have started to leave ON the lights of Main Street up past the Cinema/Pal Mickey store and towards the train station end of the block. This is to allow safer exiting by guests who want to leave during Wishes (yes, there are MANY who do). So there are lights shining in your eyes if you are on the train platform, during the whole Wishes show.

What's more, the large Main Street flagpole is sticking up directly in the center of the fireworks... and Tinkerbell's flight is mostly hidden by the Main Street buildings.

Add to that, the fact that the train station "spots" can be taken for an hour (or more) before Wishes begins and it all adds up to a REALLY POOR spot for Wishes viewing.

Here are some PICTURES taken from the train station during Wishes to illustrate what it looks like from there. Note the LIGHTS at this end of Main Street shining in your eyes brighter than many of the fireworks.
Note the FLAGPOLE in the middle of your view.

OTOH, if this does not bother you, its OK.
I'm just pointing out things many guests may not be aware of.

Wishes has two fireworks "STAGES":
One fires its missiles from a location FAR BEHIND any public area of MK.
The other fires its missiles from the ROOF-TOPS of Fantasyland/Liberty Square/the Castle.
The guests' VIEWING ANGLE will affect "if and how" these two stages can be viewed together (they are designed to be viewed "together".)

There is a full AUDIO TRACK that is synchronized with the fireworks.
It is the "motivation" for the unique fireworks effects that change with each MOOD and SECTION of the audio track.

The audio, and positioning of the two fireworks "stages" relative to the viewer will affect the impact of the show.

The front of the CASTLE ITSELF is part of the "show".
There is an elaborate lighting system that is used to change the color of the castle to suit each MOOD, and even "textures" and shapes are projected on the castle at key points in the show (Mickey's Sorcerer's HAT is a great one).

Tinkerbell's flight (which used to take place PRIOR to the old fireworks show at MK) is now WITHIN "Wishes". She doesn't fly EVERY night, but she OFTEN flies and you should be in a good position to see her.

The SWEET-SPOT for Wishes is: starting from approx. the "bridge to Tomorrowland" ...on up Main Street to the "Main Street Cinema" (Pal Mickey Store).
That is simply the "optimum viewing" area.

There are MANY other places to watch, but they are all compromises that diminish the "full effect" of the show in one way or more.

So, does it matter which side of Main Street? Will the fireworks be more behind the castle from the left hand side?

ETA -- thanks for the pics. I never would have thought they would leave those lights on at that end of the street -- I sure don't want to be there now! Thanks!

I've seen Wishes more than a few times, but don't make the mistake I made during my last trip. I was there one evening and it wasn't crowded at all, so I thought, "Look! I can sit right in front of the castle!" Oops. If you sit too close to the castle the castle itself blocks a lot of the fireworks views. (However, when the rockets shoot up from the sides it is very neat since it is so close.) YMMV

As I said before, stand near the entrance to the 'Ice Cream shop".
As you face the Castle, that's on the RIGHT side of Main Street.

You can see the show from many other spots, but you asked specifically about "framing" over the Castle... and THAT'S the "sweet-spot."

Enjoy!

Yes, I agree with this. You can't really go wrong with standing right in the middle of main street between Casey's and the Ice Cream Shop either, but edged to the right side is slightly better, it seems.

The framing of the fireworks "behind the castle" (or "over" the castle)
is, as I mentioned earlier, near the entrance to the Ice Cream Shop.

As you face the Castle, that would be to the RIGHT side of Main Street.
"Casey's" the hot dog shop is on the LEFT side of Main Street, and many like to watch from there, but the "centering" of the fireworks (since you asked about that) is better from the right side.

Enjoy.

Actually, a spot 1 1/2 feet to the right of the, with you facing the Castle, left rail trolley track, and 3 feet to the rear, with the Train Station behind you, of a line equidistant to the curb ends of Main Street, at both the Ice Cream Shop and Casey's. :thumbsup2 :teeth:

WOW..now that is specific...love it...you're the best Dan!! :thumbsup2

We actually really liked the view from the backside of the castle. You had to look back and forth to see it all, but we felt like we were right in the middle of it all. It felt like it was happening right over us. We stood just to the side of the carousel (left side, facing castle).

We also stood on main St. At the top end, closer to the castle and liked that view, too, but it was so crowded. It was a different view and could see the fireworks 'easier' because it was all in front of you, but we felt much closer to it all in Fantasyland by the Carousel.

The third time we saw them was at California Grill. That was awesome too. But being at the park was the best.

we went to wishes a second night and we decided not to sit and just continue on so we were in Toontown and were on Barnstormer when the fireworks started. I wouldn't recommend for a first timer but it was pretty neat. My girls were in awe and they got to ride like 4 times since there was no line. It felt like you wre right up there with them. Just a neat experience to share
