Wishes Dessert Party - No more assigned seating

There's a discussion on the theme parks board about Disney possibly cracking down on outside food. The article that came from also lists a Wishes Dessert Party at Narcoossee.

Interested to see if that's why the changes in this party have taken place...

I believe this is a RUMOR. As I said over there... Doubt it. They're going to do what... harass diabetics or people on special diets just to try to sell more overpriced snacks??

If I had a nickel for every story from this source that turned into NOTHING... :)

I'm not talking about the bringing snacks portion of the article. Just the dessert party portion, which is why I posted on a dessert party thread ;)

I also said POSSIBLY because I'm fully aware it's a RUMOR. But again, not talking about the outside food bit.

Just returned from our 3/1 visit, our whole family had FP+ for Wishes instead. DH sat about 2/3 of the way back on the "lawn" and DD4 sat in his lap the whole time and they had a fine view. I stood by the back railing with my parents because DDbaby was sleeping in the baby carrier, but there was enough space in our FP area for DD4 to sit and see everything.

Thanks for the report! I had cancelled my Wishes reservation and got FP+ too, so I'm glad to hear it wasn't totally packed.

We just got back tonight from a 12 day trip. The tables are not reserved, people are lining up a full hour before they start letting anyone in. As far as I am concerned, it defeats the whole purpose. We checked on it every night we were in MK just to see how bad it was and since our ADR was for one of the last nights of our trip, I was able to cancel. The CM's at the Stone Harbor Club at BC had no idea the seating was no longer reserved-I informed them about it-LOL. It seems the CL CM's are in the dark about many of the changes going on.

We had FP+ for Wishes another night and frankly, the view was better than the one we used to have at the dessert party, which we attended every trip for past 13. This was the first time we did not do it.

The Symphony in the Stars dessert party, on the other hand, was amazing. Not a bad view in the entire party area as far as we could see, the drinks were great, and there was a much larger variety of desserts than the Wishes parties we have been to. I highly recommend it.

1) WDW does a poor job of communication, regardless of public opinion
2) That is the reason sites like this exist.
3) You could fill volumes with the lack of info that employees don't know.
4) In fact there are.

I am eternally grateful that you keep the buffet pricing list up to date here on the dis. It's ridiculous that I can't get that information directly from the Disney site.

And for thread relevance, I'm glad I was able to sneak the dessert party in last June, before the price hike. I don't get the not assigning tables. Part of the magic of that party is having a table already waiting for your party. I have actually considered booking it again, even with the price increase, but this is the straw right here. Why would I pay more for less?

Bad form, Disney.

I thought the Narcossee dessert party was already announced. Saw it on DFB a while ago.

I hadn't heard of it until then. It could have been. I didn't see it mentioned here as a possibility for the change.

I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it from MK all together.

I don't see why they wouldn't keep both if they could make money from them both. They have dessert cruises, MK dessert party and now Narcoossee. They offer different views, different experiences, and maybe appeal to slightly different audiences. But WHO KNOWS?!?! :)

I just don't get the laziness of removing the reserved table aspect. That's where they lose me...

Does anyone know how many rows of tables there are now? I'm trying to figure out worst case scenario...if my table was one of the back rows, how obstructed is your view? Is it just slightly obstructed by the roof or are you basically screwed and not able to see hardly anything?

That would explain why there are no WDP times available after August.

When they removed the reserved tables didn't that increase capacity? Now they can sell however many chairs they have instead of working out the tables like a sit down restaurant.

I am still thinking we will see the whole thing revamped with the removal of the Wishes FP+

There's a picture in post #46, earlier in this thread. It looks like most of the tables are shoved forward enough that the view might not be so bad, even from the back. But that one table in the foreground definitely looks like a stinker, to me!

If the tables go as far back as they USED TO, there would definitely be tables with a bad view -- worse than the ones you can see in that pic. But I haven't been there since the change, so don't know for sure.

What I do know: I always made our ADRs for this right at 180 days out (or sooner with the +10), and we always had a great table. EVEN WITH THAT, if we stayed seated with everyone else getting up, the view wouldn't be great! I've seen what the view looked like from the tables at the back -- I wouldn't pay $1 extra for those, personally. And since I WILL NOT pay extra to stand in line for an hour for a decent table, this one is out for us! :)

Now... since they shoved the tables right up to the railing, IF this prevents people from standing there, maybe the view from some of the tables a bit back from the railing is decent. But you still can't get away from that overhang -- obstructs the view tremendously if you're under it, IMO. Are NO tables under that overhang now?? That's the only way it could be acceptable IMO.

Is there still a thread that watches when the new reservation dates for the dessert party are released?
