Wishblade

Anyone seen this? They showed it on DIY Scrapbooking a while back and I saw it today at the GASC. All I can say is, "COOL!!!" I'm so tempted to get it, though it is pricey. It just looks like so much fun and will almost make Sizzix and Quikutz obsolete. Okay, not really, but if I had one I'd probably never cut letters with a die cutter again. I wish I'd had more time to check it out, but a sweet little baby woke up while I was at the booth and distracted me. Oh well, probably for the best - at least for my wallet. (Though I can still go back tomorrow...)

I remember seeing someone post back in late Dec. or Jan that their DH got them a wishblade for Christmas, but they hadn't used it yet. I never saw an update, so no further info there. Their website is www.wishblade.com if you want more info. It is pricey, but sounds so cool! Their font sets are $70.00 for 2 styles, so they are cheaper than most die cut alphabets, so collecting them could be cheaper. They do not seem to have a lot of shapes available at this time, and those are a little pricey too, compared to most of the other die cut systmes. It does sound like a really great tool.

I checked out their website when I got home.

I hadn't thought about the price comparison of fonts. Good point - 2 different fonts per set, $ 70 per set makes each font $35. And even better, you can adjust the size from 1/2 to 8 inches tall. And if I purchase the Wishblade today - during GASC - I'll get 3 sets (6 fonts) instead of two, plus 1 Shape Set.

Thanks. I need to update my sig I guess, seeing as my baby turned 6 months old yesterday and we had more portraits taken. I haven't had much time to scrap, though I have made 6 mini albums - for DH, MIL, a friend that babysits, and myself - and I started on a 6x6 for a Father's Day gift for DH the other night. I only got 6 pages done in the 6 hours, but that's more than I'd done for a whole year. But I've taken a ton of photos in the last 6 months, literally thousands. Good thing I've gone digital.

As for the Wishblade, I went ahead and purchased it. I should receive it by Friday. In the mean time, I've returned the Quikutz I ordered off of QVC last month and I'll probably sell several of my sizzix dies that I won't need anymore.

I just heard that Xyron bought the company that makes wishblade. Someone posted a press release somewhere! lol What a great combination that would be. I hope it makes the price come down....

Yikes! I read the font set prices and thought it was really inexpensive compared to a Sizzix. Just caught the price for the Wishblade itself.

Looks very cool. You'll have to tell us how you like it. Since it is only for PC's (not Mac) and the price is out of my league, I'll just have to dream...

Has anyone used this? I had never heard of it until I read this thread. Tonight I went to Michael's thinking I might buy the Sizzix (w/ my 40% off coupon) and then just get a new set of fonts every couple of months when they are on sale...didn't realize how expensive they are! So I mentioned the Wishblade to my husband and told him how expensive it was, but he was not as shocked as I thought he would be and said it sounded like a good gift idea for someone he knows...(meeeee!!!)...and when I explained the prices difference in the fonts, and the fact that it is software, etc (he's a software developer), he actually thinks it would be a good idea.

So I want to know who's tried it and who likes/hates it?

I haven't tried it, yet. But I think mine should be arriving by UPS tomorrow. I can't wait to start using it. I have so many projects in mind for it already. Hopefully I'll be able to crank out a few Father's Day cards with it and report back about it. So stay tuned...

Looking at the website again it looks like you could use clip art, and maybe even fonts you download?

Was telling dh about it and he didn't think the price was too horrible (at least not compared to his laser at work that does the same thing). I may dreamingly add it to my birthday wish list.

He did tell me that he could take any b/w picture and have it cut out for me with this work laser. However, it would come back smelling of oil and I can't believe it could make it through there without soaking in the oil too. It's also not something he'd really be able to do for me regularly either.

I think I'm going to love it but I really haven't had too much time to play. I am using it for my pieces for the DCL swap so when they're all done and sent off I'll post.

Hi everyone...

I'm relatively new to scrapbooking and was doing some research on the Cricut when I came across info on the Wishblade. It sounds really versatile. Does it only cut fonts or virtually anything that can be put in Word? Is there an online demo?

Is there a good place to buy the Wishblade? (as far as getting a good price). Is it the same as the 'Craft Robo'?

My understanding is that it is the same as a craftrobo except the craftrobo doesn't take installed fonts it justs uses the fonts you download. I believe both machines will cut around clip art if you trace them and there are lots of cutter files out there. I have joined a number of yahoo cutting groups and gotten files.

I had a craftrobo but I felt that it didn't cut as well as I wanted on cardstock. I usually had to make 2 or 3 passes. I upgraded to a craftrobo pro II which does my cardstock really well and will do pages up to 12 x 12.

The Wishblade will cut any TTF (True Type Font) which is most of the fonts on your computer, including the onces you can download. They do sell extra fonts and some graphic cards but you don't need them at all. If you hunt a little online, you'll find all the fonts you could ever want. So yup, the initial cost is higher, but you don't have to spend any more at all and you'll have every font out there.

I got to use one once and it is SOOOOO nice.

Do the WB and CR only cut around clipart? Or does it do interior cuts, too? (in the yahoo wishblade group, I saw some photos showing intricate things like snowflakes, butterflies and airplanes... there is no text so I'm not sure which items in the photos were cut on the machine).

A Wishblade will cut out whatever lines you tell it to. If you use clipart that is not a b/w jpg, you may need to do some tracing. With some freeware, though, you can turn a b/w jpg into a WB file in less than 3 minutes, as long as the lines are clean and not sketch-like. WBs are great for paper piercing type projects.
