Wish there was an owner swap

As stated above I wish there was a place for an owner swap instead of the wait list. We have a week booked at AKL Value 1 Bed in October booked at 11mo and we are happy with that but tried to get Boardwalk at 7mo. I know this is a tough swap due to F&W but if there was a way to swap reservations instead of cancelling and booking that would be nice and take the risk out of switching. How do we know if there is someone at BW who isn't waitlisted for AKL but it will never match because neither of us want to drop and move until we know for sure.

Just my thought for the day, guess there is no hope unless we want a split stay but I like to set up "camp" and don't want to move. Oh well another trip......

Try posting on the rental board, maybe you can find someone willing to switch (but I doubt it).
If you find someone, then do a conference call with MS, after you both get verified, then request they do the change for you.

Doubt this will make you feel better about this trip, but I strongly doubt there is anyone who has your exact dates at the BWV who would want to trade for AKV.

Most of those with reservations at BWV (or BCV) bought at BWV (or BCV) because they wanted to be there during the Food & Wine Festival. A fairly large percentage of those members bought add-ons at the BWV (or BCV) specifically because they were tired of getting shut out for that time at 7 months. That's doubly true if you were hoping to trade for a standard view.

What about finding another DVC member for a mutual transfer of points? For example; If my home resort is A but I want B, and yours is B and you want A... it seems feasible to mutually transfer points so that the home resort advantage applies equally to both parties. Of course, I am assuming goodwill and intent for both parties' transfer, and that both A and B are "equally valuable" in each DVC members opinion.

Is there anyone that has attempted to mutually transfer home resort points for the ability to use home resort booking window? If this isn't feasible because of reservation system/etc, I'd like to more fully understand what limitations would prevent this mutual transfer.

Thanks so much for your insights and thoughts!

Doing this is against Disney's marketing plan for selling DVC. That's why they only allow 1 transfer in or out per use year and why you aren't allowed to get paid for transfers.

As disneynutz has stated, there is a one transfer per use year rule. You could legally do this but you would have to find someone who wanted to do the trade. Then you would have to transfer points into one year and out of another. The odds of finding this match aren't very good. But there is nothing to be lost by posting on the rent/trade/transfer board. It might be easier to rent or transfer points to recoup some money then rent a reservation from a BWV owner. But it is probably too late for this year.

What you need to do is rent your points out and find someone else with the home resort you need to rent from for your reservation. That way you aren't worried about the exact number of points necessary to swap.

A swap like you describe would also circumvent everyone in line on the wait list. You'd be skipping over people who are also holding reservations that other people may find desirable.

Thanks as I said we are happy about where we are but wanted to try something new, just have limited travel dates and they often fall during FW. Someday it will work but also know that the value rooms are also highly sought after.

This comes up from time to time. Theoretically it's possible though very difficult to do using the transfer option. The best way to do this is to find someone who owns at a resort one wants ahead of the 11 month window and make reservations for each other and "swap" reservations, basically a rental in each direction. For the higher demand options they likely will want additional $$$ but it depends on everyone's focus, otherwise it'd only be those with the higher end options swapping between themselves just like they are more likely to rent than use points at lower resorts. The only times I recall seeing it work out were where both parties were friends and it was an easy and comfortable process. IMO it's just too much trouble and risk otherwise. Better to rent out and then rent someone else's reservation with the proceeds in almost every case.
