Good morning from a family of very light sleepers who like to sleep late on vacation! Does anyone have the inside scoop on what room might be the best choice for a quiet Verandah stateroom on Wish? We're looking at:

Deck 6 Forward
Decks 8 & 10 Midship
Deck 6 Aft

I'm scared that all the good rooms are getting snatched up as I type, but a 5 mornings where someeone wakes me up at 6am is even more frightening. I know to avoid connecting doors, but what else is there?

Definitely avoid being on a deck that is below a pool deck. People on those decks complain a lot about being awakened early by workers dragging deck chairs around. Avoid being right next to a guest laundry room (if you can find plans that show where the laundry rooms are), because passengers can do their laundry at all hours. Avoid being near (next to, above or below) a restaurant, club or theater.

What's ideal is to be on a stateroom-only deck that is sandwiched between other stateroom-only decks. If you see a large blank area on deck plans, that's often a crew area (or a guest laundry room), which might be silent, or might be noisy. The best bet is usually to be surrounded by staterooms in all directions.

But there is no guarantee there won't be a noisy family or rambunctious kids above you or next to you. That's luck of the draw. We've sailed 6 Disney cruises and only had significant noise issues twice. Once some rowdy kids obviously had their own stateroom across the hall from us (technically against the rules but parents can easily skirt that rule in practice), and one night we were awakened by a drunken couple fighting next door to us, and had to get security to handle it. The latter experience definitely isn't the norm, though, and we were only disturbed that one night.

Have also been told to avoid rooms directly below restaurants and the theatre for noise.

If you look at the Wish deck plans, Deck 5 (right below your Deck 6 area of interest), the aft is Arendelle (Frozen) dining room and the forward is Senses Spa and the fitness center. Deck 8 is surrounded by other staterooms. If your stateroom is near the elevators, that is high traffic. Fairytail Fresh Laundry is centered on 8066/8564.

We have never experienced additional noise from a connecting room and have had them several times. We also have not had a lot of noise when being located close to the elevators. I have more issues with the light from the hallways coming in under the door to the cabin and have to stuff a towel down there before going to bed.

I am not sure the Wish is the exact same but I know we stayed on deck 10 and we could hear the chairs moving around on the pool deck above us. It wasn't a big deal for us, it didn't wake us up or anything and I actually noticed it when we were sitting outside on the verandah one morning. If you're a super light sleeper you may hear that.

We always stayed near the elevators and never had a big issue with noise. Honestly the only outside noise I remember was doors slamming on occasion but you can't avoid that. I have heard towards the back of the ship is louder but we always stay mid so I can't confirm that.

Certainly avoid rooms under the pools and theaters, but I'll be honest, in my experience on the Magic was soured by irresponsible parents allowing their kids to run and scream in the hallways at 5:45 am on a sea day. So just depends who is on your cruise and the individuals on board. Never had that issue on HAL, NCL, RCL or Paquet cruises, but the number of children on board of course is sharply lower. In the case of the Paquet cruise way back in 1980, out of 450 passengers, only 4 were under the age of 18 according to the Cruise Director.

Don't forget the vibrations and shuddering from the vessel as it docks and maneuvers into port. This can make forward and aft rooms less desirable.

most of the noise in our staterooms have been due to noisy neighbors within about 8 staterooms of ours. For some reason we attract the multi room groups that insist in congregating in the hall near our room and they never can have a quiet conversation.

We were in one of the "secret porthole rooms" on the Magic years and years ago and there was a crew service door nearby and that thing was opened and banged shut 24/7

But yea, don't be on the floor under the pool deck or sports deck. Guaranteed noisy.
under a restaurant or kitchen that is open for breakfast ... that will be noisy early.
Around the Spa/Gym - people coming and going ... on the Wish they are in a very different location than on all of the other ships (deck 3 or 4 I think).
Around the Walt Disney Theater .. maybe noisy at night & afternoon, not so much in the morning.
Around the Kids Clubs - that's why we are not on our deck of choice ... Deck 2 on the Wish ... that's where the kids clubs are , so that's a no go for us
The lower decks will tend to have more noise when leaving or entering a port .... lots of activity along with the thrusters (those don't bother us)

Remember that one of the basic rules for cruising is ... "You cannot do it all, so don't kill yourself trying to do it all, but sleep is for AFTER the cruise!" and the basic exception to the "not sleeping" rule is that the Promenade deck with the comfy, cushioned recliners IS a great place to catch a nap
