Wish or Treasure Laundry and Tide Pods

I don’t like the pods, but I always bring powdered detergent pre-measured in ziplock bags for every vacation because you never know when you’ll need to do a load of laundry. Don’t forget to bring dryer sheets too!

We tried to use pods on our first couple of cruises but we found they did not rinse clean -- the final rinse still had a fair bit of suds in it. We also observed others who used pods and this was the case with their loads as well. Since we are sensitive to detergents, we had to run two entire extra cycles to get all of it out.

We have since switched to just bringing a small travel nalgene container (leakproof) with liquid HE detergent from home. You only need 1 to 2 teaspoon of it per load anyway, so you don't need to bring a lot.

We used to take pods and never had any problems but also switched to the sheets and love them. They work just as well as the pods but I think they just travel better.
This has been our experience as well. I found that Tide (Free & Clear) pods were too much detergent for the very small washers in the shipboard laundry rooms. Even using laundry sheets, I cut them in half and store in a zip lock prior to our travel. We use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0875PHPRQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1.

which brand do you like and where do you find them? i would love to stop adding big plastic laundry jugs to landfills.
I use these fragrance free ones from Amazon b/c I can't handle scents on my clothes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C28519SR?ie=UTF8&th=1

My mom loves these from Amazon b/c she likes scent on her laundry.

I have not been able to find them in stores yet. I am so with you I feel so guilty with the massive plastic jug waste and I don't always need a full pod for a load or laundry. I sometimes even tear the sheets in half for a small load. Just make sure you put the sheet in first. If you put it on top of the clothes it can cause some soap residue and you have to wash the clothes again :)

I love the idea of the laundry sheets. Will be buying some for our upcoming cruise!
What time of day do you feel is the best to do laundry?
Also...are these machines still taking quarters, or is payment more digital? (It's been a while since we've cruised)

You can just tap your card or magic band and it will get charged to your account. It will also send you notifications in the app that it's starting and when it's done. I'm not sure you can still use quarters at all.

my follow up on this thread, I used a tide pod and there was soap everywhere! It did not work out well at all. We had left the laundry to do it's thing and when we went back one of the other cruisers said she called customer service to come and clean it up.
I will not be taking them again, this is the second time this same thing has happened to me on DCL. Not sure how it works for everyone else.

As a note for TheChanClan, you can not use quarters. It's all linked to your onboard account.

This is incredible! I would hope this helps people remove their laundry more quickly opening a machine for the next person. Very cool.
Thanks!

OMG, thats awful! Okay - laundry sheets are the way to go then!

Definitely laundry sheets! Earth Breeze brand are great, a little on the expensive side but they work!
We purchased a package of 30 fragrance free Earth Breeze sheets from Amazon for about $14. The packaging suggests cutting the sheets in half (which I recommend since the capacity of the on board washers is about half or less than our home washer) so that package provides 60 loads at about 25 cents per load. Tide Pods cost about the same per load. The powdered laundry detergent in the vending machine will be at least $1 per box, about 50 cents per load.
