So I decided that I would leave my upcomming room assignment at the Polynesian up to the Tiki Gods. For me this is very strange because most times I research into the ground what room location I want at a resort. This time something told me....you know what? Leave it to the Tiki Gods and you'll get an awesome room :thumbsup2

So wish me luck! I'll be there on Saturday! woohoo!

Best of luck to you!

FWIW, I did the same thing for our recent stay at POR. It worked out fantastic for us!

Good luck and I love you tag line!

Frankly, it has been my experience that the earlier you check in, the better the room location tends to be, and has much more of an impact on the location than any requests made.

People can make all the requests they want, but if other guests check-in first (with or without requests) and get the desired rooms first, those requests are useless. Those check in CM's always take the bird in hand over a not-arrived-yet guest with requests.

I made a room location request for our upcoming stay at WL, but don't expect to get it unless I can arrive before 10 AM or so on check in day, which is not looking very likely.

Actually, I disagree.

I've stayed at Disney Resorts over 25 times in the past 22 years. We have checked in every time from 10am to 7pm and typically we have gotten a room that we wanted. For example...Last year we checked into the Polynesian at 11am, and the room assigned to us was Rapa Nui parking lot view. On the other hand, in October we checked into the Beach Club at about 5pm and were upgraded to waterview concierge. I don't believe that check-in time has anything to do with it.

I've actually been told by a check-in CM that resort check-in time is the bigger factor when compared to requests, and at the Poly, no less. I wanted a certain building in the Poly, and requested it about 3 months before check-in, and even did the fax thing about 2-3 days before. But I checked in in the early afternoon, after that building had been filled up by people who checked in earlier. I had to choose a different building. It wasn't a big deal as we got a great location anyway. But I asked the CM if they had really had that many requests for the building I wanted originally. He said he didn't know and that wasn't what mattered to them. What mattered was that they got there first and asked for it upon check-in when presented their building location options. Only if what I wanted was still available and not already assigned to earlier-arrived guests, would my request be considered and/or met. I happened to be about an hour too late in my case that trip.

Of course, different times of year can have a big impact on this, but from my experience the priority is on who is checking in first, and then they look at requests if those requests are still available. Requests do not mean rooms are blocked off from being taken by others who arrive earlier and want the same thing.

I honestly don't think the time makes any difference. I've gotten my share of view upgrades and have received them checking in at all different times. Well, I've never checked in late at night.

I don't actually request certain buildings or anything, though, so I don't know about that. :confused3

Good luck!!:) We're doing the same - we'll be staying at the Poly for the first time in Sept and I did not make any request - maybe the Tiki gods will smile down on both of us:thumbsup2

We never make requests and always get wonderful rooms and views. Honestly, I think those CM's get so sick of requests and complaining guests that they are HAPPY to go out of their way to assign a nice room to someone who isn't demanding (and we always try to be very pleasant at checkin, pixie dust works both ways). Never stayed at the Poly though, we always stay DVC. Good luck! :)

We always check in late, usually after midnight (ok, so maybe that is early), and always get the room location we've requested. Kind of strange that it doesn't work that way all the time.

I think it is good to just "go with the flow" at the Polynesian. Every location has its advantages and good views.

Here's hoping the tiki gods smile down upon you when you enter the GCH (you did throw a penny in the fountain the last time you were there, right?)

Have a great time!:goodvibes

ALOHA!

That's really good. One less thing to stress about. No possible disappointment if you don't get exactly what you asked for. Then if you get a "great" room you can be happy with the tiki gods. Either way you are at a great resort any place you get.
