After years of "last straws," I have decided to seriously look for another job. I have been where I am now for 10 years and have gained a lot of valuable experience, but I think it might be time for me to move on. I took the day off today to work on my resume', and have it prepared to send to five places all ready. (Before you flame me, I have plenty of personal time, and I have a terrible cold that I don't want to give to all of my co-workers).
I hate to leave my job. I get paid fairly well, have great benefits, have great flexibility and great friends. But my boss is a pain in the you-know-what, and my company has a long-standing policy to treat its management like crap.
My boss is 80 years old and works part time from home. Basically he tries, in his own senile way, to micro-manage in abstentia - which makes my job difficult. He called me up on Friday and accused me of stealing his personal credit card - which he has lost on several previous occasions. He chewed my out yesterday because I didn't send something to him via fax - when his fax machine was out of paper.
The company has offered 2.6% raises this year for management in the face of rising fuel and retail costs. I could understand if the company was going through lean times, but we are not, believe me, and raises for manufacturing staff far surpass what management has received.
I am not the type to enjoy change just for the sake of change. I would be perfectly content to stay in a job I loved for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, this job is not turning out to be one I love, and if I don't make a move now, I may not have the opportunity to do it in the future.
Thanks for listening to me ramble. And wish me luck.
