So I found out I have 3 wisdom teeth, and they all have to be taken out. :scared: I am so scared! I just need some reisurence (sp?)! Has anyone here even had them taken out? Does it hurt a lot afterwords? Can you tell when your eating that your missing these teeth? How long did it take you to get better? (I work and I don't want to miss any days! I assume I will have to miss one) I really hope its not as bad as everyone says it is! :headache:

I had mine pulled out in 7th grade. Mine hadn't even broken the gum yet, so they had to like, dig them out and stuff. But I was out cold, so it didn't hurt at all, lol. That day I was still under the anesteia, so it wasn't that bad. But for about a week afterward I could barely open my mouth, and could only eat yogurt and applesauce. I tried to eat mac 'n cheese, and it was REALLY hard, lmao. I had a bruise on my cheek from where they needed to get leverage or something for about two weeks after, so after 2 weeks I was fine.

Oh, the worst part about it is you'll probably have to wash your mouth with warm salt water, which is really gross.

And it's really hard to brush your teeth. :P

Thanks! Mine have'nt broken the skin yet either. I'm so scared because I am supposed to be having three different auditions (with three different set of call-backs), work, and cheerleading camp! Now I have to get my wisdom teeth out, it just ruins everything! (Plus I am a chicken when it comes to the dentist)

Awww I've never had my wisdom teeth out, but I've had 4 regular teeth pulled. Feel better lots of Pixie dust for a speedy recovery :)

I haven't had wisdom teeth taken out [I actually only have two (and I will only ever have two)] but I have had 2 other teeth removed. It's not that bad [assuming the experiences are similar, which I wouldn't understand why they wouldn't be but I could be totally wrong. (When my mom had one of her's taken out a few weeks ago the procedures were the same.)]. They give you Novicane (sp?) so you don't feel anything other than pressure.

Good luck! I'm sure everything will go very well!

Edit: Silly me, I just realized that they haven't come up. In that case, the procedure is quite different. http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/Wisdom-tooth-extraction
That site details a very common procedure.

Best of luck and pixie dust!

My mom just told me a story about when she got hers pulled out... BLLLEEECCHHH. I actually gasped.

But I have a question, why are they only pulling 3 out?

Because I only have 3 wisdom teeth. Its apparently pretty rare to have 3. (Most people have either 2 or 4)

i once had to have 6 baby teeth pulled out along with my 4 wisdom teeth... luckily i was under anasthetic (sp?) so i felt no pain. That was about 3 years ago and they still haven't finished growing.

Ughh..my desntist said next summer will be my time to get them out. My mom told me the story about it when she got hers out, and my dad has to me about it when he got his out. They both seemed to have no problems at all. My dad was in the Navy when he got his out and my mom was about my age (15). I am scared to get mine out though. I can't take pain at all..=[[

Thanks everyone! I geuss I'm still gonna be scared, but it seems like a lot of people have had them out, and everyone is living! lol

I got mine out this last year. I got it done on a friday afternoon and I didn't feel better for a week. I left school early on monday because it hurt and I remember I didn't feel well enough to go to my wednesday dance class. I had to get all 4 taken out and they had to drill out one and so that side of my face was really swollen and bruised. I had a lot of jello afterwards.

I am getting mine out , but when I am like 20. Tommarow I have to get a tooth taken out to get braces. :headache:

blonde moment (and I'm not even blonde) - Does everyone get their wisdom teeth out :confused3

I got mine out this past February and like you, I only had 3. Mine were still in the gum, so they had to put me to sleep through an IV and I was out for an hour and a half. They had to put some stitches in my mouth (not exactly sure why) which were supposed to dissolve 4-6 days after the surgery, but they took 2 weeks to dissolve. I had the wisdom teeth taken out on a Thursday morning and I was asleep because of meds pretty much all day and Friday as well (I had to miss school). Saturday the bruising started and my face was pretty swollen. Sunday was the same thing, just not as bad. I went back to school on Monday even though it still hurt. Mine actually took 3 weeks to stop hurting, which was a big pain (no pun intended :upsidedow)

Even though mine took 3 weeks to stop hurting, I have heard stories of people who were up and running around the day after they had the teeth taken out (my friend's neighbor was one of those people).

No, you can't feel where the teeth came out while you eat since it's so far back. The holes that are left are really tiny (probably a little smaller than the size of an eraser on a pencil) and after it stops bleeding (takes a day or so) you'll probably hardly notice they're even there.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled out about a month ago. Don't worry you'll be fine. It might hurt a little but the first day, you will be so medicated you wont have any idea. Its not that bad and if you have friends as good as mine, you will have alot of visitors. Good luck and God bless.

ha, you'll laugh, but I just had my one wisdom tooth out five days ago.. :)

Unforunatly for me, I was awake for it, but it didn't hurt at all. I don't really do much though (I'm usually sleeping from the pills they gave me to ease the pain). I am quite sore though, and I'm not eating much of anything besides yogurt and sherbert :). My soreness is probably not from the pulling of the tooth, more than it was of them exposing my other tooth that was blocked by my wisdom tooth.

If your anything like me, they will probably give u pills, that if u do feel pain, they will almost completely get rid of it. I do find it helpful if u have an icepack next to your head while u sleep (in case u sleep wrong and it kills your mouth in the morning).

I feel bad for u to have three wisdom teeth, and i hope u go through it great :). If u have any questions on how to take care of it, etc., feel free to pm me. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the replies. I am feeling a little better about this whole thing.
