Wisconsin property taxes

We pay about $3200 here in Waukesha and that is for a small plot of land. My parents pay $3200 in Mukwonago on 2.5 acres and a much bigger house. Same county too, but different school districts. Mukwonago schools are actually rated higher than Waukesha's schools are.

No, I was not the one who made this political. Calling the current governorship a "regime" made this thread political and that was you. My only point was to provide some context to those comments for those not familiar to current state politics.

Discussing taxes usually turns into a political conversation after a while, as how much you pay in taxes is determined by the state legislature and governor for the most part. Not my intention in the least to derail this thread and I'm not commenting on the subject again.

The Appleton area is nice. If I could live anywhere in the state, I'd probably live in the western or north-western suburbs of Milwaukee...Sussex, Germantown, Pewaukee. We currently live in the Madison area.

My DH and I have talked off and on about moving to a lower tax state in a warmer climate--sure has it's appeal around tax time and in the winter!

The current governor definitely runs a regime...it is 100% accurate (just ask all of his cronies who get big raises for jobs they are not qualified for while most other public workers took a 20% haircut).

It does not surprise me one bit that you would want to live in Germantown, Sussex or Pewaukee...you would fit in quite well there.

Yes, but isn't it like that everywhere? I don't think that is exclusive to WI. There is truth to "it's not what you know, it's who you know."

Wisconsin is great ;) I have lived here most of my life, all of my adult life so I really don't know any different. The schools are great (at least in my area, some of the top rated in the state) and it is beautiful. Where else could you buy a nice family home on 2 acres of land for less than $150,000 in a school district with top ratings? We pay about $3,000 a year in property taxes...most of which goes to the school district as I live in a more rural area and we don't have sewer/city water/garbage pick-up/ect. I live close to a county line so my road isn't plowed in a hurry either ;) but I still love it here and while I would love a warmer climate I don't see us moving anytime soon. I am not sure what they do with all those taxes since we do not get any services to speak of other than the public schools but it is what it is. Most of our family lives here, my husband's job is stable, our kids are happy, can't ask for much else

Wow...bitter much?
