Wisconsin property taxes

What about Fond du Lac? It's a little less than 30 mins to Oshkosh and it is all interstate...so if you drive like me..:scared: you could make it in 20.:rotfl2:

I don't know what their taxes are, but something to consider.

gee I know right where you are--Im from Waukesha too and went to school there--I have 2 nephews and a niece that are in the Waukesha schools and while its not an easy school they are doing quite well

Also I am one of those that was disappointed that Walker got back in in the recall

I don't see any improvement since hes gotten in in spite of his "great" promises!!!

Hey Dznypal...nice to meet a fellow Waukesha-ian! What a small world. I actually grew up in Mukwonago and we moved to Waukesha after we got married. It's growing on me..I still prefer the small town feel.

Thanks for your opinion! I definitely would not want to see you at Disney!

Why not? I'm a very nice person who is kind to others. I'd imagine it being very isolating to spend your whole life avoiding contact with those who have different viewpoints than yourself.

I actually spend most of my time with others who have different viewpoints than myself...and they are all great people and I enjoy being in their company. The ones I avoid are ones like you who try to make everyone believe what they believe and can't see the facts for what they are. I was the one trying to help out the OP and tell her about moving to Wisconsin and you were the one who tried to impart your beliefs on everyone.

This is shaping up to being interesting. Kind of taxing.

Wisconsin is a wonderful place to live! We love northern WI. Life is wonderful here.

Please don't make this thread political.

Another thing to consider about WI, is we don't pay sales tax on food. I think some states do.......? If you are feeding a family, especially teenagers, that saves some money!

I think we are starting to get back on track here in WI. FINALLY we have someone in office who is cutting all this frivolous spending and he isn't afraid to make big moves. He doesn't care about political correctness.

I don't know if our taxes are higher than in other states because I have lived here my entire life. I still an't believe we are still paying for the Brewers stadium after all these years though!

I think Appleton would be a good place for you to look at housing. It has become a developing community over the years.

I wish we could live closer to Neenah or Appleton, but it would be too far of a commute for DH's potential new job. Guess we will just have to see how much they want him by how much more they are willing to pay. Thanks for all the help. Sorry to have this turn into a political discussion. Definitely not my intent.
. Find a house in Oshkosh on the west side of Oshkosh, otherwise you will mostly live around UW-Oshkosh students on the East side.

. Ah, ya you are, when ever you buy anything, it is part of your sales tax 5.6 percent. My county is 5.5%. my5 goes to my state and .5 goes to my county and your extra .1 goes to your Brewers.

That all depends on your perspective. Do you have children in public school?

I live in Green Bay. While property taxes are high, the cost of living is much smaller compared to other cities. Houses, apartments, condos... Way cheaper here. A house that costs 439000 in ca would be 235000 here.

I have a home in Minnesota as does my brother. His daughter lives in Wisconsin and her taxes are twice as much as in Minnesota. Can't imagine why anyone would live there given the difference.

:rotfl2: Because you don't just up and leave somewhere you've lived your whole life.

for what it's worth WI is a great place to live.

But the weather is another thing.............
now if you like all 4 seasons happening in one week, this IS the place for you;)

No, I was not the one who made this political. Calling the current governorship a "regime" made this thread political and that was you. My only point was to provide some context to those comments for those not familiar to current state politics.

Discussing taxes usually turns into a political conversation after a while, as how much you pay in taxes is determined by the state legislature and governor for the most part. Not my intention in the least to derail this thread and I'm not commenting on the subject again.

The Appleton area is nice. If I could live anywhere in the state, I'd probably live in the western or north-western suburbs of Milwaukee...Sussex, Germantown, Pewaukee. We currently live in the Madison area.

My DH and I have talked off and on about moving to a lower tax state in a warmer climate--sure has it's appeal around tax time and in the winter!

I pay over $6,000 in property tax and that is determined by the local governments (city, county, fire, library and 70% of that by the school district). Very little to the state as pension benefits aren't taxed IE 401-K, IRA.

I live in the suburbs outside Madison. I know the taxes are high, but I've lived in this state my entire life and this is where my family lives. So, instead of complaining about politics (I have my opinion but am not going to state it here), I'm going to complain about the weather. It's not so bad now but I'm not a big fan of winter. If it didn't snow so much we wouldnt need all those dang snowplows! So, I have plans to escape the cold this February and go to- Disney World!
