We will be @ BLT this Sunday  for our 1st visit since becoming DVC members.
I know that we will have internet access but from what I have read, the connection is in the bedroom. (we are staying in a 1br).
Is it possible to use a wireless router since we will have 2 laptops needing access?
Otherwise we will have issues with sharing the cable...:sad2:

I've seen in other postings that people have done that before. I bought an apple airport router just for this -- it's small, making it easy to fit in a suitcase and hook up.

It might be easier to configure it before you get to the resort.

Enjoy your trip! My first trip home to BLT is a week from today!

Our first trip home to BLT is in August. We were planning on doing the same thing. Let us know how it goes.

And I just realized that we are all from Chicago! Maybe we should have our own thread - Chicagoland BLT Owners, lol.

We were in Beach Club in Oct 2010 and the connection was awful. Very slow during the day, only time it was fast was after 10pm. Husband wanted to do some work on his laptop and was not going to happen during the day.

We are at okw now and just brought ours from home and plugged it in works just fine.

Donald Crackers.... the router we'll be taking is a small one that my DS used @ college. He had it configured for there. What other configuration will I have to do? I'm real lost when it comes to anything other then turning on my laptop.. :sad1:
Also enjoy your trip!!!! We will be there till monday the 6th. :woohoo:

Stmize....did you need to do anything other then plugging it in??

So glad you are asking these questions...we'll be there for our first trip 'home' June 30-July 8th and I'm taking some online classes that I will have to pay attention to while I'm there. :cheer2:

We have the D-link travel router that comes in a little carrying case. It's small (about the size of a deck of cards) and it works wonderfully. We have used it at least a dozen times now at several of the DVC resorts (BWV, BCV, BLT, & OKW). I set it up at home with my netbook and it works great. Just remember that you need to set the password.

Another vote for the D-Link. We have used it 20 or so times without problems.

The older resorts have a slower connection speed than the newer ones because they were built before the internet became popular and they used the telephone wires for a DSL network.

After considering a bunch of options, I went with the EnGenius travel router for our trip (and future trips). It's about $49.99 - little thing about the size of a credit card. The main selling point is that unlike pretty much any other router, you can configure it over a wireless connection. Meaning that if you're only traveling with computers that don't have ethernet connections (like iPads or Macbook Airs), you can still tweak the router's settings if you need to.

We stayed at BLT several weeks ago, and I just stuck our home router in my checked luggage. Hooked it up when we arrived and no problems whatsoever. And yes, the HSIA connection is in the bedroom.

To set up the router at home just follow the manufacturers instructions. Connect to the internet at home with any of the devices that you will bring to BLT. Have the devices remember the connection (router name). Then there's very little to do at BLT. Just hook up the wireless router to the internet using the cable that should be in the closet. Your devices will remember the router and connect. The first time you sign on you will get the resort sign-on page. Sign on when it tells you about the charge - you won't be charged unless there is a mistake if you are a DVC member.

I have an Apple Airport Express and I'm on the internet at BLT in about 2 minutes.

Thank You, Thank You for all the quick replies!!!!!!
I'll let everyone know how it works out.....

Is the Internet free for DVC members at all the resorts? Well, DVC resorts? I'm booked at SSR this fall.

As far as I understood the policy, it's free at DVC resorts when staying on points. If, say you were staying at the poly on points, internet would not be free.

I bought a cheap Netgear router and used it several times at different DVC resorts and it works fine. With the Apple Airport it was more hit-and-miss. The Netgear can also be configured over the air, for example with an iPhone or iPad.

For all those who use the D-Link travel router, what model # router is it? I've looked at Airport Express, but at $70 even for a Refurb, I'm ok with a cheaper router that I will use one week a year or so.

I use the Netgear WGR614, which is about $50 but you probably can find it cheaper.
