Winter boots that won't break the bank?

We live in NC where the winters are mild. However, we do make several winter trips to the mountains in the winter, and our kids also have learned how to ski. So, while I don't participate in the outdoor stuff, I end up freezing while watching them. This year, I'm looking for some warm, waterproof boots that won't break the bank. I would like to try to stay under $100 if possible. We can afford more expensive ones, but I hate to spend so much on something I will only wear 3-4 times each year.

My daughter needed some warm, dry boots to wear in college. She loves her LL Bean boots and they are popular on her campus. They are $109 with free shipping on the LL Bean website but they often offer 10% off. She also has a pair of Hunter tall boots that she wears when it's raining.

Sorrels are a bit more expensive, but mine have lasted for over 20 years! They are incredibly warm.

Love tall Hunter boots and then purchasing the over the cuff stocking type inserts for them (boot socks?). Anyhow super cozy in winter and remove the insert and have rain boots!

We live near Lake Superior so winter boots are a must have here. I love my Sorel's because they keep me warm even when our high temp is -45. I spent over $200 on them though and wear them every day for 4-5 months of the year. I have a pair of snow boots from Land's End that were under $100 and I have had them for 10 years and they are great for what your needs are. Wait until lands end has a 30% off code and then grab them.

This won't help you right now, but I usually hit the end of season sales. I picked up a pair of Sorels for around $60 and they have lasted 8 CO winters so far. They're in the storage closet now thanks to my recent move, but I'm sure they'll get a little wear from time to time when I go back to visit :)

I've had my LL Bean boots for 25 years now and they are still going strong. One great thing about LL Bean - the lifetime warranty, except on the soles and those they will replace for a small fee. DH had his replaced after 10 years for $20.

My kids have Sorel's and they are also great. The pac boots can be had on sierra trading post for less than $100 if you sign up for their deal flyer.

I bought mine from lands end on clearance. They are purple and not really my ideal color, but they were cheap so who cares!

I got some tall brown ones from Lands End probably five years ago. I doubt I paid more than $50. I needed them to take the kids tubing and use them for shoveling. They should last me a very long time.

Living in Wyoming, boots of all kinds clutter my closet, however, my favorite "go to" boots are my Boggs. They are great all year. I garden in them, shovel snow in them, camp in them, etc. They are water proof and come in many styles. They do run a tad small so I suggest getting one full size larger than you normally wear.

Exactly! I just got ds14 a pair of Sorrels last Christmas and they weren't very expensive on Amazon. IIRC they offered free returns too.
I've had cheap boots in the past and would rather spend a little more and enjoy them for years.

Now I want a pair!:goodvibes

JC Penny I bought Totes, lined and water resistant boots.
My dd got a copy cat Uggs type boot from SAMs Club, $39.99, spray with weather resistant spray.

you can check Marshalls for last years boots, but I agre with pp's.... brand does make a difference for real winter protection... Sorrel,Kamuk,Ll Bean, Lands End,Keen.... a real solid thick sole is essential IMHO and I bought a pair of Lands End Black Leather thinsulate high boots at least 18 years ago that are still in good shape, and still warm! They were worth every penny of the 120.00 I paid for them! motto- sometimes you should pay the price for the quality....:thumbsup2 I take my winter wear very seriously....

Check 6pm.com as you can often get last year's style of many great boot brands for a good deal. Also check shoebuy.com, Amazon and shoes.com as they often have coupons available with little restrictions.

Just a thought...Check men's boots as well if you plan on wearing thick socks. I love my LL Bean boots but if they get snow down inside I will grab my son's pair that he outgrew last year. They are Sorel pac boots and are a mens 8 fit the same as my LL Bean size 9 boots. Except for sizing they look exactly the same as the ladies Sorel pac boots.

I'd spend $50 more and buy the Classic Ugg boots in the short style.

I have worn these for years, use water proof spray on them. They are the only boots that will not numb my toes in the cold weather.

Sierra Trading Post is my go-to site for things like that. I just bought new boots for my husband for snowblowing. Regular price: $180. I go them for about $60. Very good quality. Super easy to shop online and return if necessary.

I wear Kamiks, most of their boots are made in Canada. I buy mine from Sears canada for under $50, right now they are 40% off. You can also buy them at Sears.com in the USA. The funny thing is the Kamiks in the USA are made in Canada (most of them) and they are cheaper in the US then Canada, go figure. Where I live it is winter from nov till may.

I live in an area where winters can be snowy and very harsh. Years ago I got a pair of white snow boots from Kmart for under $20. They are great and are waterproof. I probably purchased them around 9 years ago. I always personally thought they weren't very fashionable (I'm usually fashion conscious) but I have worn them into work as I walked through the snowy parking lot and I have actually been told by a few people that they thought they were cute.

I'm not sure if you have a Kmart or something similar near you, but I think mine have been great over the years, especially for the price!
