We have always gone to Publix on 192, but since there is a new Winn Dixie and Publix closer now, I was wondering about the produce and meats at Winn Dixie since I have never shopped at one. Since I always buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as some meats I was looking for opinions/comparisons between the two. I usually buy little if anything at the bakery, but thoughts on that too. Thanks

I've never been to Winn-Dixie but this past Aug we shopped at the new Publix. It is a beautiful store! Much better than the old/small one on 192. And if we hadn't taken a wrong turn it would have been very close to WDW

I vote for Publix. We went to both the Winn Dixie and the new Publix recently. If Publix had been my first stop, I never would have had the need to go to Winn Dixie and would have saved time by not having to go to 3 stores! (We always go to Goodings for in-store prepared meals when needed)

The Winn Dixie was adequate - better prices and selection than Goodings, but was kind of "blah".

Publix, however, had much more of a selection than Winn Dixie - including a better selection of in-store prepared foods (although I still prefer Goodings for this), a larger, more varied and fresher looking produce section and an "organic/health" foods department (not as great as Whole Foods, but a lot of the basics). The meat selection was also more plentiful and was presented more appealingly. Publix was a little more upscale than the WD, which was a little too basic in appearance and selection for me. In NJ, I usually shop at Kings (much like Goodings), Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Shoprite. Publix was a good match for me. Winn-Dixie was more like Pathmark.

There are several newer Publix. The one that is being referred to is at the Corner of I drive and the road that goes back in to the new outlet mall. From OKW or WL, you can get there by going out 536 and turning left onto I drive. While the Winn Dixie just down from the Crossroads MIGHT be a little closer, I think the traffic makes it longer unless you're going that way anyway. I think the one on 192 west, near Orange lake is closer for BW and BC. There is also another one out farther west on 192, almost at 27 that's even newer. Having shopped at both over the years, I find Publix a much nicer store in general. I can't compare the new one in Lake Buena Vista to the old one at 192 and 535 or even the other newer Publix as I haven't see the WD yet.

We have Publix, Albertsons, WD all about a mile from the house and all in convenient locations. We prefer Publix. They are building a Super WM (have one on the other side of town) and a Super Target (only target now is a regular one also farther away) fairly close to the house.

In my opinion the best way to get to the new Publix would be the following:

From I-4 WEST: Exit 68 (Rte. 535). Left onto Route 535, next left onto Vineland Ave. at Little Lake Bryan; proceed 1 mile, pass the
Premium Outlets following Vineland Avenue around bend, Publix
will be on your left.

From I-4 EAST: Exit 68 (old 27). Proceed straight across light at end of ramp onto Vineland Avenue; continue 1 mile, pass the
Premium Outlets following Vineland Avenue around bend, Publix
will be on your left.

Heading South on International Drive, past Sea World right into Vineland Village (Vineland Avenue) you will see Publix on your
right.

It is a very nice store. You can get specific directions here:

Does anyone know what the hours are at the new Publix? or the Winn Dixie? Thanks

Thanks for the links. Which Publix store is the new one that people like? I can't identify it by address. Could someone tell me the name or store number? Thanks

I go to a completely different Publix than what has been mentioned here. I just get on World Drive and get onto Osceola Parkway and exit Disney Property. At the light where the new Gaylord Palms resort is, I turn right onto Internationsl Drive South. The Publix is about 3/4 of a mile down on the left. It takes me about 10 minutes to get there from VWL.

As I have posted before, if you are coming from the airport, Albertsons on Orange Blossom Rd is a favorite of ours.

That's 535 and 192.

We were down at OKW in June for 9 days and shopped the new Winn-Dixie. It was very nice. I've never shopped WD before, but my son is in school in Orlando and the WD near him is terrible. The one near OKW is nothing like that one. The OKW WD is clean, and new and has a very nice selection of produce and meats. Nothing fancy or gourmet, just your usual grocery store basics. Give it a try. It's soooooo much cheaper than Goodings and took very little extra time to get there. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My vote is Publix.

However from all the reading I don't believe we shop the Publix on 192 or the new one.

My family has owned a home in Orlando for years. From MCO airport we get onto the Bee line (I think it's 528) and exit Orange Wood Blvd. Left at the end of the exit - Straight thru the Williamsburg area and at the light it's straight ahead in the plaza. The plaza also has a liquor store to pick up anything else you need (like a nightcap).

To depart to WDW. Left out of the plaza, 1/2 mile down take a left onto International Driveand the rest is simple to WDW.

OR

Backtrack to the Beeline which drops onto I4.

Can anyone tell me if any of the supermarkets listed here are open 24 hrs? We want to use the limo service next trip (April) and we need to stop somewhere. Any suggestions?
