I saw the Winged Encounters demonstration at AK last week. I would encourage anyone who loves birds to seek out and experience this.
Times are not published, so ask a cm; even the cm's at the park entrance had to consult with each other and do some running around to find the show times.
Then, find the landing perch, as that's really where the action is. Last week, it was tucked in between some construction walls near the bridge to Dinoland, but a cm said it would be moving as construction in the area progresses. When you see it, you'll recognize it; it looks like an oversized hat rack with bird carvings.
The demonstration is simple and short: it's just a variety of macaws flying into the park and landing on the perch, where they're fed treats by handlers.
There's not much to it, but it was a joy to see so many beautiful birds behaving so actively, as opposed to just sitting on their perches looking bored.
Anyone who is terrified by large numbers of birds flying low overhead should avoid the landing area.
