Hi everyone-

DH and I are going to WDW for our anniversary in March and we are having dinner at a couple of signature restaurants. We are not normally big wine or champagne drinkers, but we thought it would be nice to enjoy a glass with a couple of our dinners.

However, we don't know much about wine, so we really have no idea what would suit us and we don't want to get a bottle and find we can't drink it. What really turns us off about most wine is that it leaves an alcohol taste after we drink. We do prefer white over red and enjoy a light fruity taste.

Can any of you recommend a good wine or champagne for us to try while we are there? The two main restaurants we are looking at are Narcoossee's and Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Thank you so much for your help.

My husband enjoys light white wines that are on the sweeter side and he was able to order wines that he liked everywhere at WDW. Try a Geuwertztraminer or a Riesling. There is also a red sparkling wine sold at a kiosk in the Italian pavilion at Epcot called Rosa Regale that is absolutely delicious.

You will find wine suggestions on the menu at all the Signature restaurants. You won't go wrong with those suggestions.

I am not a big wine drinker, but I had the Rosa Regale on DCL and loved it! We get it every time we are at Palo. I didn't know until a few weeks ago that it was also sold in Epcot...I will be looking for it on our next trip.

I've seen those before, but since we don't know anything about wines, we aren't sure what we should even be looking for. We would just like a few suggestions for wines that are light and fruity with little to no alcohol taste. What descriptions should we be looking for on these menus?

Thank you so much for the recommendations. I am going to write those down and take them with us.

I have one more recommendation for you, if you like a light and fruity wine, try Magicale! its a sparkling wine and we just LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

on our last trip, we asked the waiters for recommendations! tell them what you like. we were never dissapointed! :drinking1

With all the meat on Yachtsman menu you will have to ask your server for a very light red...recommendation. Probably won't stand up to the meat, but you will enjoy the glass of wine.

Rosa is a dessert wine...great with chocolate.

I agree with the other poster...a Gwurtz...or riesling would be great for you.

Most of the restaurants will give you a sample before you purchase the glass, so test a few and make sure you like what you are ordering.

As far as champagne...instead of ordering a bottle..try this. Have your anniversary toast at the Champagne booth in France (order two kir royales) or at the wine tasting counter in Italy (order two proseccos with the hibiscus flowers in them) Both fantastic and a great way to celebrate!

You sound like us!

We like Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. For a little dryer, Pinot Grigio. For a little sweeter, Riesling.

I absolutely loved the Chenin Blanc at Narcoossee's (there's only 1 on the menu), my DH had Sauvignon Blanc there and he liked it also but mine was better.

The servers at both restaurants will be a great help to you. Don't be afraid to ask. Bon apetit! :goodvibes

Magicale is the best (we love it too:lovestruc), but Rosa Regale is similar and runs a close second. A good semi sweet Reisling is also a safe bet.

I know when we ate at California Grille and ordered meat we wanted a red - either a Cabernet Sauvingnon or Merlot. Didn't have a lot of knowledge for selection and our wonderful waitress brought three bottles to the table with an empty glass and told us to sample each one. She described each one and then left us to taste and decide. I thought that was very classy. I had no idea how much each one cost so we just picked the one we liked best and ordered it. It was $55. No complaints here. It was perfect with our dinner and it was our highlight meal of the trip. It's your anniversary - make it special.:goodvibes

I would explain to the server exactly what you just asked. They will have the added advantage of knowing what will work best with your food!

I will reiterate what some previous posters suggested and tell you to go with either Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. I am not what you would call a big wine drinker, but I work in a restaurant so they have us sample the wines so we know what to recommend. Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are both delicious, light, and the taste is not overpowering. Also, I have not dined at either of the restaurants that you are planning on, but I have tried some very tasty champagne at some of the restaurants at WDW. Have fun!

I am a huge fan of wine but prefer deep dark reds. I have a friend who got me started on whites. . .I also tried (during the food and wine festival) a white Merlot. It was fabulous. You want a wine that evaporates on the tongue quickly and leaves behind the fruity taste. . .Don't go too inexpensive as you won't get what you want. And don't be afraid to taste some. The better restaurants you are going to will be happy to provide samples for your tasting pleasure.

If you want a champagne or sparkling wine for your anniversary toast, don't get it from the restaurants. . .Go to France or Italy at Epcot and sample some sparklings. . .Italy has its Prosecco and Rosa Regale. . .both quite sweet and tasty but if you drink too much you will get a headache. Try some of the French champagne, you might be surprised at what you actually like. Buy the bottle you like, take it to your room, get some cheese and crackers, grapes, and other goodies and have a toast on your balcony or porch. . .it will be awesome.

1) As a seldom wine drinker, ask the restaurant for a recommendation.
2) Sure, you can take advice from others
. . . drink "x" Chardonnay
. . . drink "y" Riesling
. . . drink "z" Cabernet
3) However, if you want true enjoyment, that is not the way to go.
4) There are so many wines and brands of wine in any category.
5) In the same style,
. . . example: chardonnay
. . . some are more fruity or less fruity
. . . some are lighter or heavier
. . . some are wider-bodied or less velvety
. . . some are more lemon than grapefruit
. . . some are more vanilla than coffee
. . . some are more uttery than toasty
6) It can get very confusing.
7) The eatery should be able to make a good paring for you.

NOTE: This is not to criticize people who usually drink the same brand of wine, but each appetizers, entrée and dessert can be intensified by a good wine paring. A person's usually wine could still be enjoyed, but a different brand or type could make a huge difference at the meal.

I am fairly knowledgeable about wine, and I still ask servers for advice. Sometimes I get surprised by something I wouldn't normally pick. Also there are sometimes choices not on menus or lists. Tell them what you might like and they'll take care of you.

Thank you so much everyone! I didn't know that they would allow us to sample a wine to help us make up our minds, so I had visions of us getting something and not being able to drink it. We will definately ask our servers. And I will take the Italy and France recommendations with me and try one or two of those as well.

Several of the signature restaurants have sommeliers. You best bet would be to talk to that person. They will be abvle to discuss their selections, and tie in what you are eqting with the wine that would go best with your meal. That is their job and they are the ones who teach the servers. And there is no extra charge for this.

Another Magicale fan here!! We had it at the Yachtsman on our honeymoon and it was fantastic! Sparkling, light, fruity....yummmmmm!! Liked it so much, we had to bring a bottle home with us, to celebrate our 1st Anniversary!! :goodvibes

Trying different wines is a fabulous thing, but if you aren't particulary fond of wine don't think that you have to order wine to be considered classy. Drink what you enjoy. I find that sitting at the bar pre dinner is the best way to taste wines. Most bartenders will let you taste whatever is served by the glass.

If you prefer to drink mixed drinks and beer then feel free to enjoy them with your meals. Wine isn't for everyone. When introducing others to wine (red, white or sparkling) I usually start them out with an nice sparkling. It is a good bridge from other more traditionat drinks such as soft drinks and beers.

Wine choices are a personal choice, don't be swayed by the description. If you happen to taste something and you don't like it, then by all means send it back!
