Wine at the Wilderness Lodge

I've tried searching for this because I was certain I saw a thread once that asked about this, but can't find what I'm looking for.

What kind of wine selection does the shop in the WL have? And what are the prices like? I'm sure there's a hefty markup, but I'm just there a week and won't be drinking THAT much. If I buy a bottle (or several) from the shop, do I have to drink it from the plain old hotel room glasses (or maybe straight from the bottle, depending upon how many times my DD drags me onto It's A Small World that day) or is there a way I can get some wine glasses? :confused3 I can pack a corkscrew in my checked baggage, but I might be tempting fate to try to pack a couple wine glasses. I really don't want to be dealing with glass shards in my panties while I'm there. ;)

TIA. (And I'm really not a heavy drinker, but I would like to relax with a glass or two of wine in my room each night I'm there.)

Hi - We stayed there two years ago and I just packed the plastic cups so they would not break. You can get the fancier hard plastic cups, but I would not risk taking glasses. I know when we were there I believe they let you purchase wine, beer, etc and they will let you take up to two glasses back to your room (that is wine bought from the lounge). We did purchase wine from the store but I do not recall the price. You can also purchase smaller bottles at the snack bar. We were at the Polynesian this trip and used Tiffany Town Car so we were able to stock up on wine, beer, soda, etc. Much to our surpise when we got there we were upgraded to concierge. We actually left a bottle for housekeeping. Have a great time the Wilderness Lodge is awesome. How old is your child? You might want to ask about being the flag family while you are there. It was a great experience for our kids who were then 8 and 4.

Thanks for the reply. The plastic glasses would be a good option. I'm glad to hear I could carry a glass of wine from the lounge up to my room. I'm a single parent so relaxing in the lounge isn't exactly a good option.

My daughter is 4. I thought about asking to be the flag family, except that neither of us is an early riser. I may decide later that it's worth getting up a little early for.

I was able to borrow a class from the lounge to use for the bottle of wine I bought and took back to our room. Just asked the bartender, she said no problem. I did return it to the bar before we checked out rather than just leaving in the room. That way I knew it was returned to the proper place.

I don't recall the bottles being marked up too much. Certainly not like you would find in a restaurant. I remember getting a bottle of Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio a few years back at the Poly and I don't recall it being more than $15.

Hope that helps... and enjoy!

Yes, that helps. Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll be able to find a bottle of something I like.
