Wine and Dine 2015

I have a small story about those blue towels. The person that provided them at the marathon finish was a a private reseller and those towels came out of her pocket. Some over zealous volunteers got into some closed boxes and soaked them. She was trying to save those boxes for other events. She's trying to make markets in places like SEC football games. I have no relationship with her I was just talking to her son...

Just finished 4 miles in 77 degrees, 99% humidity, I was soaked during my, walking, quarter mile warm-up. Which planets are giving such a good show, Venus, Mars?

Ok people, we need to make some lemonade. Or at least I do. The weather forecast has me freaking out (especially now with "R" back in the picture.) I'm going to try to think of things that will be awesome about this trip regardless of the weather.

- seeing Osborne lights
- reading at the airport, on the plane, and whenever else without having to share my iPad with the family
- visiting the mandara spa on Thursday
- spending the day at Epcot Sunday exploring the food booths with DH
- not being at home doing laundry, making dinner, or helping with homework
- a new race shirt and some merchandise
- feeling proud of my quality training cycle this year
- spending time through this training season typing with wine and dine disers!

My secret hope though is that it does the thunderstorm thing early on Saturday and then cools off a bit before the race. Please...

They (RD) was useless anyway. The lady I spoke with never even did anything about it. She took down all this info and did nothing. When I called back, I got a rep who didn't want to help me; and then a supervisor who basically told me there was nothing they could do about it as our registrations are already over at the field house. I felt like I was inconveniencing them; and all I was trying to do was be proactive. She said she didn't think there would be a problem; but in the same breath would say there was nothing they could do anyway.

Who knows who you were talking to. The people that know anything about the race details are most likely "in the field, deployed" at this point. People "left in the rear" are most likely the least qualified to be answering questions, or worse, an answering phone bank with merely a script.

I wouldn't worry too much about nicknames, not matching ID. Do you have a passport; doesn't that include aliases? Professional license applications usually have a space for aliases. I'm with keels on this. It's very unlikely that it will be a problem.

How about magic band matches nickname, Credit card on file matches photo ID???

I'll be leaving soon, so I just wanted to say BEST WISHES to everyone and to ENJOY the races and all the festivities!!
What a fun and exciting time!
I've really enjoyed reading along here, with everyone sharing their experiences, wisdom, struggles, hopes and dreams~ what an awesome 'community'.
Whether for this race alone, or in combination for others, it's been months of training...
maybe it's been...
in the early mornings or late nights, in the heat and humidity or in the cold, in the rain or in the wind, on city streets or quiet paths,
with friends, family or by yourself, maybe with sweat, blisters, chafing, achy joints and muscles, and even injuries,
feeling motivated or slogging through, feeling great, or feeling UGH!, perhaps laughing, maybe even crying~ wondering why we do this or thinking I love this!
Maybe there are moments that inspiration comes at just the right time while we run, like a ray of sunshine coming through the clouds, a butterfly crossing your path, a cute dog, a friendly wave from a fellow runner, or a text of encouragement from a friend.
Just some of the highs and lows that I think everyone who trains may experience at some time~ which brings us to common ground and of course the love of Disney (right?)~
As others have said before, the hard part is behind us, the race is the FUN part!

Each race I do, I come up with a list of mile dedications for each mile~ I'm dedicating a mile to all of you hoping it's a fantastic one!

I'll have two people on my mind this time. I lost my mother 12 years ago today and it is just shy of a year since a dear friend died in a car accident. I ran Avengers in my friend memory and I really think that made a heck of a difference in my time. No matter how much it hurt or how tired I was, I kept reminding myself I had to keep doing it and living to the fullest because you just never know.

I love that idea! Usually I just think about all the people that I love that can't/don't have the ability to run like I do. I am going to make a list on the plane ride down of who I will be dedicating each mile to. Thanks for the inspiration!! :thanks:

I got a call back from them too about an email query I had put in a few weeks ago about the bus transportation for spectators who want to go to the starting line. I thought that was really super weird. I usually contact customer service people via email if possible because I hate talking on the phone. You would think it would be faster for them to respond to email tickets via email rather than give someone a call back. :D
Anytime you email Disney or RunDisney you'll get a computer generated response right away and then the real response from a human a week or two later, theyre not quick. As far as transportation for spectators, the buses are there for everyone,Runners and spectators.

Sorry when I said "faster" I really meant "less work for them" :) The main thing was that I thought it was weird to get a call back about an email query... I would have been fine with an email. :D

And this is exactly the comment that makes me the most nervous. That even someone who lives in Florida struggled with the heat, and that it was so hot being at the park walking around, not running.
I apologize if I added to your stress - NOT my intention! flatlandcycle's got it: we're just OVER the heat down here. It's been blazing hot since March: it's simply exhausting to live in that day in, day out, for so long. To add long distance training into it starts taking a toll, too: I'm training for a full, so I'm up to 17 miles in this heat. It's rough. But it's a very different situation for folks who haven't been stuck in it for so long! Be careful, run safe, take time to cool off and hydrate as needed, and you'll be fine :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the heat/humidity at race time. It will be a bit warm (I live in a northern state so I understand), but the lack of sun makes a HUGE difference. If we get a breeze it will actually be quite comfortable.
^THIS! Yes, it will be warm, but nothing like a mid-afternoon in August.

Thought I was leaving for WDW tomorrow morning for W&D. Then my dog got into some pills. Prognosis seems okay, but he's under monitoring for at least 24 hours.

So we've rescheduled and hope to be all clear to head down Wednesday. We'll see. Happy thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Hope your pup is doing better this morning!

I've been having. My own freak outs this morning too. I'm used to running in the heat and humidity, whether I enjoy it or not is a different story, but I am nervous about that other weather event that has everyone back in a tizzy. So I love focusing on the good things! We've all worked hard so I hope we enjoy every second of he experience and revel in our accomplishments!

Some thoughts from a Floridian as folks start hitting the road:

Plan for warm (hot days) weather and rain - better to have the stuff you might need than to wish you'd have brought it, right?

For me that includes: a visor to keep rain and/or sweat out of my eyes, summer running clothes, a poncho for waiting to start, a ziploc for my phone, a checked bag with a change of clothes, small towel, fresh shoes, and umbrella. That's it. There's no special trick to running in the rain - we just do it!

More or less ditto for running in the heat. I add electrolytes to my usual daily intake of water the day before, but I don't drink more than my usual amount. I drink to thirst during the race. I stay out of the heat before the race because of my propensity toward heat-related illness, but lots of folks hit the parks and do just fine; know thyself and give your body what it prefers!

Most of all, remember to HAVE FUN! Go in with a good attitude and you'll find you can have a blast in almost any conditions :)

Thanks for a beautiful articulate tribute to Disers,
Kind of like getting a hug!

Have a great race yourself!!

It rained yesterday while I was at Universal - and it was like little drops of heaven falling from the sky to kill the humidity. If that happens at, say, 7 p.m. on Saturday for a good 20 minutes, I wouldn't be angry.

I've begun the errand-running and prepping for husband and I, so I can have our bags packed and ready after I get back from the Expo on Friday. Post-race park clothes are already in gallon-sized Ziplocs. Both of us have two hats - one for the race, one for after - as well as two throw-away ponchos for pre- and postrace.

I've been adding Nuun to my daily water intake to help up the electrolytes (and replace the ones I've been losing by being in the parks almost every day).

The only thing I really have left to do is track down my favorite running bug spray. I didn't bring it with me from Texas because I didn't think I'd need it, but I got really devoured by mosquitos at MNSSHP on Sunday night, so it looks like rain or shine, I'll need to slather on some bug spray.

I just got a reminder from Disney Dining about my Il Mulino reservation on Thursday, my arrival day. I really am close, now.
