Wine and Dine 2015

Got my gift card today here on the FL panhandle! Funny that it takes just as long to go to California as it does to get here! But we are happy campers to have the gift cards in hand. Not sure what our gameplan is for the rest of F&W. I think I'll just get one of the wriststrap ones and load the money onto it that I have put aside for F&W. I can probably do that our first day there. Now, back to my happy dance that our gift cards arrived!:banana:

DH and I got 9 in this weekend. It was a struggle after having an Upper Respiratory Infection. Gonna go for 10 this Friday afternoon. We wouldn't normally long run the weekend before but we are so behind on training. Looking forward to this week going by quickly at work. 11 more days for us!!

Running 10 miles on Friday will hurt more than help. If you can handle 9, you can handle 13. Rest your legs - it will benefit you far more than anything else that you can do at this point.

Just had Happy Hour with my Mom at the new Hangar Bar at Disney Springs - I advise EVERYONE to stop in, even just for a quick drink or snack or peek around the joint. It's fabulous.
Yes I am hoping to check that place out! Any recommendations on food/drink? Thanks :drinking:

We got our gift cards today. I am glad that I will not have to go to try to get one at registration. I also agree that this is a strategy to have fewer cards used. If someone forgets the card at home and the line to get a replacement is crazy long, some will not go through it and just give up the $15.

I sure did love the first year with the voucher for any drink and any food item inside the park after the race.

My Mom had a Tito's and tonic (her go-to drink) and I had a Cigar City Maduro Brown Ale - if you're in to craft beer, the menu is very good and has a great selection of local craft beers!

We didn't have food, but some dishes I saw that looked great (and were consumed by the tables near us VERY quickly) were the pretzels, the meatball sliders and the falafel tacos!

We'd been eating around EPCOT all day, so I wasn't hungry enough to get a snack. But I'll definitely be back.

OK peeps! Have an even different prerace food question for you guys. Because we have all shared so much in the days leading up to this event I just feel like everyone here's a wealth of information. I'm going to miss being able to query everybody once the race is over.

My question deals with this: what is everyone's plan or best idea for a good prerace meal on Friday and Saturday afternoon if you're not going to the parks? I repeat, we have not decided if we will pay the exorbitant rates Disney is asking for tickets and so I think I need to make a back up plan which will involve meal ideas that are not inside the parks. Any good tips or restaurants with menus that you guys like particularly? We will have a rental car and are staying at Bay lake tower, So even if it's something that is in the community or general area, suggest away!

If you don't have a restaurant idea, but for instance always make a certain meal at home before local races, would you share that? We have a one bedroom so I do have the ability to cook something if we don't go out to a restaurant. Not that that's how I plan on spending the time mind you, but I'd like to consider all my options. ;)

PS
To those that were suggesting or talking about getting the Justin's peanut butter packets, did you grab them locally by your home, or did you get them from Amazon? I seem to remember several years ago Jeff putting out little dishes of peanut butter at the target. But I've never seen them locally and our SuperTarget so I'm not even sure if they still make them.

I know that Publix on Sand Lake Road AND the Winn-Dixie on Apopka-Vineland have the squeeze packets of Justin's.

As far as non-Disney restaurants go, two of my favorites are Season's 52 (Sand Lake) and Cafe Tu Tu Tango (I-Drive). If you're interested in leaving property and checking out the "dark side", we had a really great lunch at The Cowfish at CityWalk over at Universal. Crazy menu of sushi and burgers, but it was delicious and a really great deal (all things considered).

For eating, I usually try to squeeze a pasta dish in somewhere during the day before a half (usually lunch), followed by a hearty, healthy protein-filled dinner.

We plan to have lunch at the Art of Animation after we go to the expo on Saturday. We did this last time so I could get the make your own pasta dish and it worked well. I got chicken, pasta, pesto, and spinach, which was really good. Friday night we are booked at Trattoria al Forno for dinner.

Omg Tu Tu Tango is STILL around? We used to go there in the late 90's early 00's!! No idea it was still popular lol

Thanks for the tip on city walk. We might have to try that place out too!!

Yeah, I just realized I should also get some oatmeal because I'm probably not going to be able to find food court oatmeal at dinner time. :D

At Tink, I really did not prepare well for pre-race breakfast. The night before the race, I was just like "oh I'll buy a bagel and a banana at Starbucks in DD and ask for pb instead of cream cheese and bring it back to the room, whatever." We headed back to the hotel after our dinner at Naples, only we got to Starbucks and I was able to get my bagel but they had no bananas and no peanut butter! I was pretty bummed about that, but then I remembered, we were staying on Katella and walking back and forth from our hotel every single day through the Grand Californian... surely they must have a food court in there! So we went hunting for it after we got my bagel and luckily we were able to snag the precious banana and peanut butter. :D

Ooooo! Thanks for the planning ahead for food reminder!

Good freaking Lord! The weather report for day of W&D now has a high of 90! Ugh, I am going to stop looking until it gets closer lol. (on the plus side all rain that day is gone, but I am not holding my breath! ) :)

OMG! If the temps are good night to be this high I am going to have to seriously downsize my outfit.... A thoroughly frightening insinuation;)

Gift cards arrived in MA today! 1 step closer!!!

Mine too!! wooohooo!!!

Re the magic bands... just to make sure I'm not missing something. We dont' HAVE to run with them right? We can just wear the party wristbands they give us to get into the after party?

By the time I finish stacking MB's, watches, party bands etc, I'm going to have to figure out how to incorporate them all into some aspect of my costume!!!!!
:rotfl2:

Yep, my plan, exactly. I could just skip the race altogether and go to the party, but I'm paying for the medal - may as well do what I can, get it and donate it, make someone else happy :)

BUT, here's hoping we both wind up having a great night and finish uninjured, happy and strong! :thumbsup2

I'm in the same boat as you both.. I'm still trying to get a diagnosis for my dengue -overtraining -fever and muscle wasting ;)
... And am no way I will be running as I once thought...in fact, may not even be able to finish as well.
Perhaps we could join up, complete with accompanying piccolo player, as we limp along waving to our fellow disers!!

I'm in G, either of you close? All joking aside, may your races go well! But if we get swept, we don't get a medal right? Just trying to understand some of the posts....

Also, if I know I'm not going to run the speed I qualified into, do I stay in my corral, or move back?
Input please?!

The card is here! I promptly took it to Gringotts and they said it has insufficient funds. Two beers for me.

:rotfl2:

Man I love these boards!!!:cheer2:

If significantly slower than the posted corral time, then yes, I would move back. If still in the same ballpark, then you may just want to stay but start at the back of your corral.

Even if you get pulled off the course you get a medal. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

If you qualified for a faster corral then you are going to run just start in the back of the corral. You'll get some extra time before the balloon ladies start amd hopefully it is enough to keep you on the course.

I'm in H btw.

Wait? You get a medal if you don't finish? Only Disney. And don't worry guys I've been hurt and a mess, and in a later corral so I'll be doing all I can to get through. I'll be there with the angry face power walking my way. I'm sure we'll all be fine though! Injuries aside it's all mental.

And no gift card up here in the north east yet. I did get my Anna wig a day early though. It's part of a very epic Halloween costume.

For those asking about sweep spots, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing buses around mile8-9, just prior to entering DHS - at least I remember seeing what I thought were buses on my first wine and dine and panicked thinking I was going to get swept.

I can tell you for certain that there were med guys and at least one van right outside of the boardwalk hotel (near the community hall maybe?) because that's the one I got onto, and then back off of. But that's nearly mile 12 so if you make it that far.... Then again, I was sick, not injured so while my head and stomach were saying no, my feet were still able to move.

I have to say I will be SO sad if we have really warm temps. I had such a horrible miserable time in 2013 and I really want to recapture the love I have for this race like I felt in 2012. Humidity and heat really seem to affect my body so I guess if it's hot I'll be limping along like I did for Sweaty Princess 2014....

I got my gift card today and also the hat for my 5k costume! It was a good mail day :)

As far as restaurants, we're planning on Raglan Road for lunch on Friday and probably just pizza at the condo Friday evening before an early bed time.

We did go to Cowfish in September and loved it! I'm excited to try out the Hangar Bar and Trader Sam's on this trip.

We are doing dinner at Trattoria al Forno on Friday night where I will likely get the lamb and polenta. We will have lunch on race day at Kona Cafe at the Poly. Then I'll likely have something like a turkey sandwich for dinner or peanut butter sandwich.
