Windsor Hills Passcode to gain access to homes???

I finally made a decision and rented a 3 bedroom townhome at Windsor Hills for our late June vacation. The owners just emailed me the info I need to gain access. They gave me the key pad numbers to gain access to this unit and I'm shocked that its not changed after every rental. Does this seem like standard policy to you?? It seems too easy for someone to share this info and gain access. We have asked the owners to change it for our arrival and they seem somewhat "suprised" that we aren't comfortable with how things are now. They tell me its a state of the art system and the resort has 24 hr security. This does not give me much comfort as the only thing I need to show to gain access into Windsor Hills upon arrival is my letter from the owner (an unsigned emailed letter). Someone very smart could find a way around this and I find that scary. I am contacting the mangement company and asking them to change the code and we will pay the costs. It just seems crazy that this isn't something they do anyway?? Has anyone rented a unit with access like this??

We had key code access to our house in Emerald Island. We did not think much of it because you need a parking tag to get into the complex. THe guards at EI take this very serious. I suppose that anyone could get into your home but, I guess we never thought much about it. I guess it could be the same as a someone going to walmart making duplicate copies of a house key. I dont know you spend $$ money to rent the place then you rip it off. Yes, it could happen however I felt very secure with the our enviroment and the key code made checking out a breeze because we left at 4:00 am in the morning and also we wer able to check in as soon as we got there. But you have a legitimate concern, I just felt really secure with the security at EI and I guess their is no stopping someone who wants to get in.

Karen, take a deep breath . :cloud9: Relax, you will be just fine. :cloud9: You dont need them to change the keycode. I stayed at windsor hills, 9 nights in October. It is a beautiful safe gated community. With 24 hour guard on duty. You will get to your townhome. There will be a box on the outside of your townhome. The key to the townhome will be inside of the locked box. You and the owner are the only ones with that passcode for the time rented. It is very safe.. It will be changed when your stay is over. So no need to get all stressed about it. You are going to disneyworld!! Yippeee!! Thouroughly enjoy you time there!! If you have any other questions. I will be happy to answer them for you. By the way!! Windsor Hills!!You made a great choice!!Only wish. I could have enjoyed the resort, my family and I were to pooped with all the daily park activities. We never even got to see the community poolm or anything else. Windsor Hills Resort had to offer. Have a blast though!!

Thanks for the responses. This is how I assumed it would work by my owner told me the code is "periodically" changed. I rented a condo that worked the way you just explained and we used the code to get the key. This is not how the townhome we are renting works. You use the pass code your entire stay to gain access to the house. I just got word that the owner will change the code right before our visit which makes total sense to me! We are all somewhat up tight about the whole thing because our last visit to DW we had our laptop stolen and I also remember crime being pretty high in FL. I am glad to hear Windsor Hills is a great resort and you were very safe there. That does help!! :)

Totally understandable Karen,

funny thing is the reason we rented a home this trip because we did not want housekeeping in and out of our room because of a theft issue at Westgate. So glad that the owner changed the code. We had the same thing a key code instead of keys aswell. Enjoy your stay !!! I know we had one minor maintenance issue and the property manager specifically asked for us to be their to let her in and she had a badge. ( MY 3yrold locked the pool side bathroom :p )

Our place that we rent out works the same way...we change the code after every guest. Then...only the guest has the keys for the duration of the visit.
