We are renting a home at Windsor Hills in March 08. My daughter and her roommate (who are seniors in college) will be joining us. They asked if they can ride bikes to WDW from WH. Anyone have an answer for this? Also is there a map of Windsor Hills that allows you to find your "home"? :) The one on the WH website is not very clear. :) Is there any kind of information packet distributed by WH or is it information I should get from the homeowner or google myself.

Well it is close enough that you could ride bikes but I don't know what you do with your bike when you get there. You would have to get the info about where you home is located from the owners. If you know their names you can look it up on the tax records and you can see a small section of the map where the house is located and then figure it out from there. This is the tax record site:

This map may help locate your home. If you PM me their names I can perhaps figure it out for you. We've stayed there a couple of time and I know the layout.

I would probably not suggest a bike ride to get there, except for perhaps AK. Most of the roads leading in and out of Disney are busy highway type multi-lane roads with 40-50mph speed limits, and they are definitely NOT suitable for riding bikes along them safely!

Normally the homeowner provides information to the guests on the home, the resort, and amenities, etc.

I am an owner there as well, we have a website that has an awful lot of information on the resort and STR properties in general, much of it is very generic to Windsor Hills Resort itself, look here:
www.5mins2disney.com/faq.htm

Things like amenities or what is provided in the home may vary slightly from owner-owner, but it will give you a very good idea of what to expect. It may also give you some ideas or questions to ask the owner you rented with. Did you rent a home, condo, or townhome?

Any other questions please PM me and I'll try and help.

Here's a map I like of WH, with plot numbers. (I know nothing about the company whose website it is on and this should not be taken as an endorsement of it!)

As for biking, these are basically highways or very congested multi-lane commercial zones. I would not ride bikes on them. In fact, I would not be surprised if bike riding were prohibited on Osceola Parkway.

But note that you couldn't bike ride from a WDW resort to a park either, for the same reason, so this is not a disadvantage to staying offsite. Just a feature of Orlando sprawl.

That's the same map that they gave me at the gate when we arrived. I had misplaced mine. It doesn't have the new Reserve section on it and the numbers don't correspond with the tax record lot numbers but it is a good clear map.
Editing this cause that sounds kind of snotty but when I was looking for a 6 bedroom it was very hard trying to find the property from the tax records numbers to correspond to the WH map. I had to go by positions rather than numbers. :)

Bikes would come in handy to ride to the WH community center. I think there would be plenty of room to store a couple of bikes in the house, front entry way or garage if you're renting a large home. Not sure whether there are any bike racks at the condos...I don't recall seeing them. I agree with the other posters though... I don't think you want to be out on bikes on the main roads leading to and from WH. :scared1:

For a great map visit google maps and enter the windsor Hills clubhouse address which is 2600 old lake wilson, kissimmee, FL 34747

We are renting a 6 bedroom home for a week in March 2008. We are a group of adults ages 21 to 57, pretty much all related and one granddaughter
age 3 1/2. (Okay so we all know who will be running the show: princess: )
I will pass the info on to my daughter (soon to be college graduate celebrating her last spring break at WDW) about bike riding. I'll be back with more questions I am sure but thanks for all the info. I will check out the links.
