We see posts here every week, blank screens, hijacked PC's, trashed computers. It is pretty easy to stay ahead of the game, practice safe computing.

This month's criticals were released yesterday, take the few minutes to update. Better safe than sorry, as the time worn cliché goes.

Also, please do make sure you have your anti-virus program and definitions up to date, should never be more than a week out of date, as well as your anti-spyware programs.

I've got a question. What do you do when the updates cause your computer to freeze as happened to me numerous times when I downloaded the last update? Has this happened to anyone else, and any advice?

Thanks in advance.

If it does, and some are quite large and it can happen (took me two tries to get these latest ones), just reboot and try again. If you do have blocking software, you might turn off during the update to see if it helps, just make sure to turn back on when complete.

Thanks, Dan.

Your right Dan, but I struggled for quite awhile trying to to it alone(not as computer savvy as you) so I just ordered the CD to do it for me. It's free and free delivery, great news for us primitve types. :earsgirl: :smooth: :bounce:

That's it, I've decided to move to Linux.

Between all the update downloads, Service Packs, virus updates, Internet Explorer issues, I've decided to chuck the whole thing and just move to Linux.

All these updates and stuff are really making my PC act up; I've had nothing but problems with Windows since just before SP2 came out.

See ya, microsoft.

Just an FYI, Franco, these updates are after SP2. Only one will actually apply if you have one SP2, online or CD. So still go through the exercise, you should get one I think.

I too ordered and have the SP2 CD (came quickly) but have not installed as yet, waiting for about another month for the post SP2 bugs to work through, then I will update with that also. In the meantime, I feel quite secure with the software protections, most of which SP2 adds in, on a rudimentary level. If I did not have the other protections, I would do the SP2 today in a heartbeat.

Mine updated automatically just a few minutes ago!

I am having trouble for the first time, downloading the updates! It has "failed" 3 times. I do not have SP2 either. What could I be doing wrong?? There are about 8 updates listed for me. ??? I may have missed the last update as I took it off "auto" to avoid SP2 until the bugs are worked out. Anyone have a clue??

Make sure that SP2 is installed before you try to do the rest of the updates. Also my computer froze while doing the update. It was trying to do a passive update at logoff time. I had to request the updates through the control panel and let them happen before continuing my work.

No SP2 installed here yet, not for several more weeks, but all other criticals are current. Without SP2, several are are done this time. If SP2 is already installed, only one update I think. Mine loaded 5 yesterday, these......
