Window boxes/flowers questions

What kind of flowers/plants do you put in your window boxes for the holiday season. With our new house came window boxes (filled with ugly dead plants) so I want to put something nice and festive in them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I usually fill my with greenery...hemlock, holly, and pine boughs. It matches the boughs I use to decorate my lamp posts and railings.

I use floral styrofoam to line the bottom and stick the boughs in there to help them stand up. I don't do it until after Thanksgiving. Be prepared to either water the floral styrofoam so it stays wet and keeps the greenery green or to replace the dried out or browned boughs throughout the season. Once the box is filled the way I want it to look, I tie a big tartan ribbon around each one with a big bow.
