Last year we were there in Feb and both the fireworks and WOC were cancelled due to wind. We are going next weekend and are very anxious to see both. Also have WOC dessert party booked. Can anyone tell me what the winds are like right now? Will they refund the dessert party if WOC is cancelled

This is one of the worst things ever!! Don't have an answer to your question, but have been at DL many, many times on a night with canceled fireworks. Make sure to ALWAYS check out the shows that have a possibility of being canceled very early on in your trip and if you luck out and see it day 1 .. you'll have the chance to see it again if you want or if it doesn't run due to the high winds at least you got to see it! Good luck!

WOC is rarely canceled for wind. That being said, we're under a wind warning tomorrow and Tuesday, so we'll see if it goes off both nights. If I were going, I would be at best cautiously optimistic for fireworks.

Keep watching the local (for DLR) weather forecasts for next weekend. As the dates get closer, you should get a more accurate idea of the wind situation and whether it will affect fireworks or WOC. It is a bit too far out now to forecast that accurately and things could easily change between now and next weekend.

When we were there the first week in March, fireworks were cancelled both days we were at the park (Friday the 3rd and Sunday the 5th). They started fireworks on the 3rd and stopped about 5 minutes in. They never even started them on Sunday.

I'm a Canadian so I don't really understand the in's and out's of Cali wind conditions...but I can tell you the flag on the top of the Main St. railroad station was not moving either night even a little bit. Both were super clear nights. It was SUPER frustrating! This may be cynical, but it seemed like an excuse for them to save some money.

We still had a great trip, but we planned our days to give ourselves two shots to view the fireworks (they were only showing them Fri/Sat/Sun at the time). Alas, it was not meant to be.

You really think they would purposely disappoint tens of thousands of people at the very last minute in order to save money? Nope, no way. If they advertise fireworks on a certain night, they definitely want them to happen (rather than face all the people that are upset that they don't).

Don't watch the flags. Their elevation is too low to predict how the wind will be higher up. Watch for the white balloons that get released. The balloons are how they tell what the wind is doing at higher altitudes. The balloon may go completely straight up at the beginning but then all the sudden start start moving sideways really fast. Just happened to us last time we were there. They were giving warnings that the fireworks may be cancelled and sure enough, when those balloons went up, there was no doubt that the fireworks would be cancelled because that balloon got to a certain point and started moving sideways instead of up :(

Being in the middle of an urban area, winds at higher elevations could cause debris to drift and fall on the houses so while it may not seem windy at flag level, it could be much windier at higher elevations. Also, it is the Anaheim fire marshal that determines whether fireworks can proceed or not. it is not up to Disney. Given a choice Disney would much rather have the fireworks since they are advertised for the evening, but it's not their call.

Disney doesn't set the rules about fire safety. The fire marshall does, and Disney is required to abide by those rules. This is not about saving money. Disney also has a time window within which they can set off the fireworks because they are working with a curfew of sorts based on all the surrounding residential neighborhoods. The show must be finished by a certain time, so it must start by a certain time to ensure that it will make the cut off. We know (thanks to CM friends and firefighter friends) that Disney will wait as long as possible to see if they can start the show and still make the end cut off. We've seen them delay the show by 10 or more minutes to see if the wind dies down or changes direction. But both the wind conditions and the time situation have to work together for the show to go off. Disney juggles a lot to entertain their guests as well as they do. And it's a compliment to them that they do as well as they do as often as they do in spite of weather conditions that they cannnot control.

The fireworks went off last night (Sunday) Tonight, I'm not sure if they will go off. The winds had picked up around 4:30 and with Wind Warnings and Advisories in the SoCal area I wouldn't be surprised if they don't tonight. We are at a hotel close to where they set them off and they are loud so I can appreciate wanting to be mindful and aware of what a delay in the fireworks can mean for nearby residents.

Not sure how it is 40 miles away, but the wind is INSANE in LA tonight. I can't believe it. It's been like this all day. I can't imagine they're going to be able to do them tonight if it's even a fraction of the wind that we have here.

I didn't hear them tonight. It has been very windy locally all day, especially by the foothills.

Yes yes yes!

I watch the clouds, if there are any (and there are always *some* clouds in my experience). If you see them scudding across the sky, don't bet on fireworks. If they stay put, it'll likely be fine. :)
