Williamsburg VA in April?

OK, now I don't know if we can swing our hoped-for FL trip in April either, so we are looking at spring break week in VA. We would spend some time at BG and of course want to see the historic areas (W'burg and even Jamestown which I have never been to.) Any hotel recommendations? An indoor pool would be great though I don't know how much we'd use it.

Any other tips would be appreciated too. Thanks! We are DW, DH and 2 kids who will be 8 and 2 on the trip.

Hotel Recommendation I can't really help you with since we always stay in a time share.

But if you have any other questions about Jamestown, Williamsburg, or Busch Gardens, just pm me! I've been to Williamsburg and Jamestown over 30 times and I LOVE the area!

There's a Great Wolf Lodge there which we've stayed at a few times. Your kids will love that place. We've also stayed at the Hampton Inn on whatever that main road is (forgot the name). It had a small but nice pool. Hotel was very clean & had free breakfast.

We stayed at the Comfort Suites this summer. It was brand new and we loved it. Indoor pool, breakfast, and a Golden Corral Restaurant within walking distance. It was about a 5-minute drive to CW and maybe 10 minutes to BG.

They don't have the operating calendar up for 2011 but this year they were open weekends beginning in March.

Happiest Mommy, W'burg is about 365 miles from our area (we are 10 miles west of the city) so expect a full day drive with stops. We were originally thinking of stopping in DC for a night but that seems like a waste of a hotel to me; I'd rather do the whole drive in one shot and BE there. We will probably spend 1 or 2 nights in DC on the way back however.

Is BG, Busch Gardens? I am not sure if they are open in April. I thought they opened in May. Be sure to check it out prior to going!

They are open weekends for sure that time of year, in fact the first weekend open is usually in March - but I want to say this year they were open during Spring Break (Easter Week) Any locals remember for sure??

Can't help with hotels, but wanted to mention that Jamestown is great since it was redone for the 400th anniversary a few years ago.

It's always weird when they open. The park always opens earlier for people with a season pass. They usually open to the public towards the end of April/beginning of May, but it's different every year.

Hotels I can't help you out with because my "hotel" when I go to Busch is my bed at home

Someone mentioned Great Wolf Lodge. I looked into going a few years ago with my sister as a weekend get away. It is EXPENSIVE, and this is coming from a gal that doesn't mind spending a little bit on her vacation. I looked at the price, and I decided we would do something else for a girl's weekend.

We love to stay at the Colonial Williamsburg Hotels. It is kind of like staying "on property" like at Disney for us. Our fav is The Woodlands.

We stay at the Williamsburg Plantation. It is a timeshare, but I believe you can also get package deals if you are willing to sit through their timeshare sales pitch thingy for an hour or two.

Nice place, very close to both Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. We always head to Washington DC for a day or two as well.
I definitely recommend this place. Very clean, wonderful staff, can't say enough good things about it.
Good luck with your search. Watch out if you have allergies though, April there can be a tough time with the blooming of stuff. Everything is literally covered in a coat of green pollen.

We're going to Williamsburg in April, and have reservations at the new Comfort Suites! The rates were pretty good, and we've been pleased with Comfort Suites in other locations.

I've stayed twice at the Williamsburg Lodge. Very nice both times. It is withing walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg.

Has anyone done any of the ghost tours at night? If so, which tour and how was it?

I don't remember what it was called, but we went on a ghost tour of the colonial area when they first started them. It was based on L.B. Taylor, Jr.'s books and since I had read them, I found it rather dull. It would have been a zillion times better if they'd had staff acting out the stories as well. If you read the books yourself, you could easily give yourself a tour and save yourself some money.

BG is open during the week before and after Easter. Depending on when Easter falls, it may be open on weekends prior to that. It is always open weekends (Friday through Sunday) after Easter until Memorial Day, when it opens full time.
