Hi all, I'd like to take my children to Willamsburg, Va and was wondering if anyone has ever made a trade there? Which property should I try to trade into or avoid? Its so hard to tell from the photos if they are nice places. Anyone know how far from attractions they are? Thanks for your help!

King's Creek Plantation is wonderful and very close to Busch Gardens. It is located next door to Water Country USA which is a great water park.

Ford's Colony is beautiful. It is a Marriott property. We stayed there about 2 years ago. It was less than 20-30 min to everything.

We've stayed at the Marriott Ford Colony. There are two sides the original and the sequel. The sequel has lock-offs that can be used as a 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom & studio. The original side only has 2 bedrooms. The original side from the outside looked more colonial to me. The timeshare is located in a gated community which is just beautiful. We found everything in Williamsburg to be a drive but we live in California where the nearest grocery store is usually within blocks of your home. So I guess it is what you are use to. You can look at the pictures of the resort that I took by clicking the link:

We also stayed at Marriott's Ford Colony and liked it. The trade was 144 points for a lockoff 1-bedroom in August (very hot!). Colonial Williamsburg was perhaps 15 minutes away -- a car is absolutely necessary. I recommend the Annual Pass if you're staying a week, so you can come and go as family members get hot or tired. Try to go inside every building, sign up for lots of tours and see at least one of the candlelight "trials" in the evening. And when you first arrive, don't neglect to see the film in the arrival center. It's very 50's Hollywood but excellently done and it puts everything in context right away.

I agree that Ford's colony is great. But I wouldn't use points to trade in there. I'd rent out my points and then rent a week from another owner (maybe through a site like TUG, redweek, bidshares, or craig's list.) Ford's colony can often be rented (and sometimes even purchased) fairly inexpensively.

Thanks for all the input DIS'ers! I think I am going to rent my points and go where we really want to stay. You guys are the best!!!!
