Will you visit the 9/11 board?

I tried. The only thread that I could bring myself to open was the one to thank our Canadian friends. I read the titles of the others and felt like crying.

This is not a criticism of the new board. I think it is a wonderful idea, and I am glad that it was made a separate board so that those who can handle it can go there without it being "in the face" of those who can't.

I don't want to forget it happened, but I also don't want to relive it all over again.

How are all of you doing with the anniversary approaching?

I have. Yes it made me sad, but I also remember the amazing outpouring of support on the DIS for each other and for members of the community who were involved in the rescue effort!

I haven't visited it yet. Don't know if I can. Still to painful.

:( :(

Also, 9/11 is my daughter Holly's birthday. Most of you on the boards here know her as sydally9367. I just hate the thought of associating that date with her birthday. Poor kid.

I go to it first now before any of the other boards. The Boards and what DISers had to say was very important to me last year after the terrible tragedy....and now with the anniversary fast approaching, it's comforting again to listen to what people have to say. Thanks again Pete!:)

However, Bonnie, I can understand why some would be uncomfortable with it too. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

I'm glad it's there, but I won't be stopping by. Nice sentiment though.

I went once, read the titles and I couldn't open any of them. I can't watch programs on TV about it, I can't listen to songs written about it. I think the idea for the board was a good one. Thanks Pete. :)

I haven't brought myself to check out that board yet, but I am sure as the date gets closer, I will go there. :( I spent a lot of time on the CB shortly after/during the tragedy and found comfort in sharing.

Man! I'm already getting a headache, from just this little thread. :*( Sometimes avoidance is much easier for me.

I've already posted on the board Lucy...but that helps me. I know that board won't be for everybody. With the anniversary coming up I think it was very sensitive to open the board for those still having too much trouble to even read the thread title about this topic. Thanks to whoever had this great idea!

I will not visit that board. 9/11 was a horrific event but the media has went way overboard with their coverage that i have heard enough of it. Now when i think of 9/11 i think of the tragedy of the event and the money grubbing antics of alot of the survivor's who feel they are OWED money while victims of other incidents, be it Pearl harbor/Oklahoma City as examples didnt act in the same manner.

the money grubbing antics of alot of the survivor's who feel they are OWED money

They are OWED the money that was collected in their behalf, as well as their share of the Federal fund that was established to cut down on lawsuits, should they choose not to sue.

Yes, I've posted to the 9/11 board, and I think it was a wonderful idea.

Thank you.

I have no problem with the donated money at all. Its was donated freely and should go for its intened purpose, and even that isnt happening as some groups are trying to use that money for other purposes.
I have major problems with my tax money going for anybody other than government employee's who would receive the money as part of their work contract!!!! The federal fund was a horrible and wrong idea and is only going to spawn more whining when the next event hits!!! Its part of the entitlement mentality that has been spawned by liberal policies where if something happens you are owed money, by either the goverment or some 3rd party.

The federal fund was a horrible and wrong idea and is only going to spawn more whining when the next event hits!!!

Would you prefer that families sue the airlines out of business for something that wasn't their fault?

Sorry, but 9/11 was a unique case (thus far) when it comes to terrorism. There was no industry that was in danger of being bankrupted due to lawsuits after OKC, nor after Pearl Harbor.

I think that the idea of a government fund to help protect the airlines from suits over the attacks was a good idea.

I didn't know The Dis started a 9/11 board....

If the airlines go out of business, so be it!!! No business is guaranteed to always be in business. If juries are that dumb and award massive awards that put those airlines our of business than maybe the government will do something to stop the trial lawyers from runing our country. And if the 2 airlines involved go bankrupt another airline will take there place, be it Southwest or some new startup that will grow into the next major airline carrier. Its not governments job to give away tax money to stop lawsuits!! As for PH or OKC you cant sue the federal government unless they allow you do to so.
This sets a precedent that opens the treasury for any other attack that comes down the line and that industry cries for help. Its a awful idea that was only started with 9/11 but wont end with 9/11. People agree to this BS yet cant understand why there taxes are so high!!

I estimate it cost me $60 to pay my share of the Federal fund. Ballpark figure, of course.

$60 well spent, IMO.

Back to the original topic...

It is also the first board I visit before others. I can completely understand the views of those who feel they can't visit the board. I find myself in tears almost everytime I go there.

However, for me, it's very therapeutic. I find myself dealing with a lot of issues I never even thought of before, or that I kept to myself.

It's very therapeutic for me....It's one place that I can talk about 9/11 that people actually still care to hear about it.

give it a rest, Bob. would you rather see ever insurer in this country go bankrupt? one of the fundamental principles if onsurance is not to pay for catastrophic losses. most policies have a "war risk" exclusion. my legal opinion is that the "war risk" exclusion does not apply to the 9/11 disasters, but if the insurers had to pay all those wrongful death claims, they'd surely invoke the exclusion in order to avoid paying those claims. they've already paid billions in property damage and business interruption claims.

the company I work for had a loss ratio of 115 in 2001. that means for every dollar we collected in premium, we paid $1.15 in claims. if 9/11 had not happened, our loss ratio would have been under 100. several insurers had loss ratios of 150 or more last year because of 9/11. insurance companies stay afloat because they invest preimuim dollars in the market ( ), but even with a good market, a company can't stay successful with a 150 loss ratio. if the insurers had to defend/settle the 9/11 lawsuits, those loss ratios would remain abnormally high.

ok, let's bankrupt all the insurers. my company employs 80,000 people worldwide. and we have lots of competitors. now we're all unemployed and collecting worker's comp. so not only is the tax base reduced (my company pays no taxes, I pay no taxes), but I'm living off your tax dollars. and my company is no longer investing its premium, dollars in the market, so the market plummets. happy now?

guess you never saw the movie "Rollover".

as for the 9/11 board --

been there, found it very sad but very compelling.

I just got back from vacation and noticed it there. I'll visit provided it doesn't turn into a debate board devoted solely to 9/11, which of course is possible, if this thread is any indication.

I personally will always remember the outpouring of support I received here on 9/11 and the days that immediately followed. I imagine there are some lovely threads started there already, I'll have to go check it out.
