Will You Ever Watch A Poorly Reviewed Movie?

I won't. I trust the majority and if something is rated poorly, I don't bother. Just don't have the time to wade through the medicore. I will only add movies that are 4 star or above on my Netflix account. Same with recipes. What about you?

Rarely. And when I do I usually regret it. There's usually a darn good reason why everyone else hates it. But I doubt I'll ever learn. Sometimes curiosity just trumps good sense!

That being said, every once in a while you do luck into a "so-bad-it's-good" gem!

I've watched a lot of movies that the "experts" panned, and laughed my butt off at many of them. Would I watch them over and over? Probably not, but to see it once, if it's funny, definitely. Some movies I will watch again and again. True Lies is one of them. I don't know why, but it's hilarious to me. (And I'm not a big Arnold fan.)

I've seen a lot of movies that the critics raved on, and I was very disappointed.

I try to read a variety of reviews, and see what everyday people say instead of what the critics say.

Yes, if I'd read the book first or if one of my favorite actors was in it. But I do take into account what the review says and not just the stars. Oftentimes a boring movie to most people is one I'll like.

I'd say about 50% of the movies I love are movies that most of the population hate (Open Water, Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, Etc. Etc. Etc.) Some of my favorites. Chances are, if it is a B movie that people think are crappy and poorly made, I'm going to love it!

I don't usually look into what anyone else has said about a movie or book. My tastes aren't those of the "majority" and the (typically) smorgasboard of fornication/blood/gore that seems to pack a theater is a turn off for me. That said I only like comedies or suspense movies usually so ... yeah, I don't spend much time watching movies. Most comedies are bawdy and suspense movies tend to lean toward the grotesque. *sigh*

I don't give a fart what others (critics or the majority) think. I see what I want, and what appeals to me.

If a movie gets bad reviews then we definitely won't see it at the theater. We only go out to the movies maybe three times a year and don't want to waste $20+ on something that may stink.

In netflix, I rarely watch a movie that gets less than three stars. There are enough movies that get better than that to keep me busy.

I watch movies that are rated grade Z. I find them entertaining.....What can I say, some of us are bad movie fans. Especially the horrible campy corny stuff. Oh so funny....

Ex. "Tokyo Zombie" anyone? So bad, but so funny....Or how about "Meteor", "Volcano", or "Stonehenge Apocalypse".:rotfl:

I do like good movies as well. I just like movies.

I would. I tend to watch what appeals to me regardless of the reviews.

That said, if there is a movie that doesn't really appeal to me initially but did get lots of great reviews, I will often give those movies a chance.

My husband loves the worst movies ever made. So yes I have watched many movies that do not even get one star. How many times can a grown man watch, and laugh at, Year One? There's no hope.

One of my favorite movies is Streets of Fire. It is almost hilarious when you look at how bad it is, but there's something about it that appealed to me. Also, the cast includes Diane Lane, Willem DaFoe, Lee Ving, Bill Paxton, Amy Madigan, Ed Begley Jr, Mykelti Williamson, Deborah Van Valkenburg, Olivia Brown, and Rick Moranis. This is before some were A-listers. Fun to see how far some have come.

So, yes, I will see movies that get panned if A) the stars appeal to me and/or B) I prefer the genre (comic book movies are a good example).

Oh gosh!!! I adore True Lies I have seen it a hundred times at least LOL my husband says it is awful but I just get a kick out of it every time I watch it.

I definitely don't pay attention to critics. Growing up the movie reviewer in our paper didn't like any movies...ever.

I was killing time one day and read Ebert's review of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Not only did he keep going off on these odd tangents he referred to one of the actresses as a "Moppet whose name I remember not". Another time I was debating on going to one of the Scooby Doo sequeals and I picked up his review. It wasn't so much a review as a rant on how he was above Scooby Doo. I don't think anyone was expecting Shakespeare out of a Scooby Doo sequel, was it too much for him to do his job and write a review? or look up the little girls name (or more accurately tell one of his assistants to do so)?

Blech! I don't think I've bothered to glance at a review since then.

I just got "Despicable Me" from Netflix, so we will see how it goes. ;)

Did this get bad reviews??? I'm shocked if it did ~ we really enjoyed it!

Anyway.... usually the only thing that makes me NOT see a movie is the big build up that reviewers give the "hot" movies.

For example ~ I've never seen Titanic. Usually anything that was highly recommended or even big award winners ~ not for me.

Like this Black Swan. Wanted to see it until it became this big you MUST see movie. Bleh. I don't like hype I guess ~ it usually leads to disappointment.

I watch what I want to watch. I don't even check the reviews first. Sometimes, if a film was awful(my opinion), I'll look up reviews and they are usually good, lol! My sense of humor can sometimes be sophmoric and sometimes I hate movies made for teenaged boys. For instance, I mostly detest Will Farrel's comedies but I LOVED Taledega Nights.

Exactly. I generally don't read reviews until AFTER I've seen a movie, just to see if other people agreed with me.

I watch a LOT of movies. Several a week. At least once a week in the theater. I would say that I agree with the majority about half the time.

The movie this year that everyone loved that I was hugely dissapointed in was The Town. The two movies I really enjoyed but were pretty-much universally booed were Knight and Day and You Again. While it wasn't an Oscar-worthy movie, I thought K&D was a really well-made movie. And YA was just fun and cute.

Last year, An Education got such rave reviews (as did Carey Mulligan). I walked out of it. Thought it was horrendous.

I tend to not listen when people tell me what I'm supposed to think. That definitely goes for movies... I like reaching my own conclusions.
