my sisters and i are going on our very first cruise next year and we choose the later dinner time because we figured less children. But now that I think about it. Will we miss shows because of the later hour??

No you won't they have 2 showings. The first is at 6:30 that the late diners go to and one at 8:30 for the early diners to see.

Certainly not. We always have late dinner. You go to the 6:30 show and then the 8:30 dinner. The early diners go to the 6:30 dinner and the 8:30 show. You'll like late seating a lot better. You are not as rushed to get out of the dining room as the early seating. You can always get a second cup of coffee, etc.

Plus it's great because on port days it gives you a little extra time for dinner. You can go to the show and then still have time to go back to your room to get ready for dinner (shows are usually over by 7:30 or so).

They do 2 shows per night. The "early" show is during the early dinner seating.

If you have 8:30 p.m. dinner, you go to the 6:30 p.m. shows in the Walt Disney Theatre.

The folks with 6:00 p.m. dinner go to the 8:30 p.m. shows in the Walt Disney Theatre.

The shows last around 60 minutes. Dinner lasts around 90 minutes. So, in either case, you don't miss the shows, and you have about an hour between the show and dnner (or dinner and the show).

Some shows they also do an afternoon showing, or a 10:30 pm showing.
DCL differs from other lines, most lines do the shows after dinner, even late seating. I do wish they would change that.

We picked the late seating for the same reason. The night we did Palo's we did the late show, and WOW! Was there ever a difference in the average age in the late show. Very much Kiddie Central! As self proclaimed "Dinks" (dual income- no kids) we much preferred the early show/late dinner rotation.

You won't miss the main show in the WDT. You also can get good seats during the 7:45 to 8:15 "inbetween shows".
But...
With late seating, and depending upon your serving team and how leisurly you pace your dinner, you may miss the "Adult Cabarette" and other shows that start at 10:15 (those that start at 10:30 shouldn't be a problem). At some ports, during late dinner is also the time of the sail away parties. And if you're like me, you won't feel like snacking on those late night yummy desserts and the 11:30 dessert buffet (one night only) and if you are on the western cruise, you'll miss the mexicalli... party and buffet up on deck 9.

The biggest problem I have cruising with DCL is deciding on what I'm going to miss doing. There are always hard choices to make, and choosing early or late seating is just the first of many.

BTW: We've decided that we like late seating better than early seating.
