Will we like SS or OKW?

We have stayed at both the Contemporary Tower and Wilderness Lodge and loved both. The MK is our favorite (my daughter is 7), so being close has always been great.

My wife has talked about trying OKW or SS - I've driven thru OKW once, but never seen SS. We don't know much about either. I know they're both pretty spreadout.

My question is - will we like them? Any advice would be appreciated - thanks.

Hello - I have stayed at WL, CBR & OKW...WL is the family favorite here but I loved OKW. At OKW, you will not get the Disney theming that the other resorts have. (I have not stayed at SS). OKW is very very quiet and tranquil which is often a nice change from the parks. The pools were never crowded (May) and the transportation seemed much less crowded than CBR & WL. OKW is spread out but that did not really bother us. If you want a quiet relaxing time away from the parks OKW is great..If you want Disney theme, you may not like OKW..Good Luck!

Alot of people say OKW is not themed......but I feel it is. It is themed after Key West, FL. The quaint pastel colored bldgs with the white picket fences is very pretty. The patios have mickey head sillouhette cut-outs.......the main pool has a pool slide with a sand castle theme (and a hidden mickey) in keeping with the ambience of the resort. Olivia's, the full service restaurant at the resort, has a Key West feel with KW-inspired menu selections.
So, though it maybe be a more understated themeing especially compared to the WL (OKW and WL are nothing alike), it is themed nonetheless imho.
Also, you mentioned being close to the MK......you won't be as close to that park from OKW as you were at the Contemp or WL. So if this is really important to you, you might want to stay there again. I'd say the bus ride to the MK, once you exit OKW, is maybe 15 min away ? But you won't be able to walk/boat/monorail to the MK from OKW as you can from the Contemp/WL.

I can't imagine that you won't enjoy either of these resorts. But, you have to change your mindset. You won't be in a "hotel" with a lobby you walk through and, of course, you won't have the monorail right there. You will be in a luxury condo style resort. If you have a one-bedroom or larger you will really get the feel for what that means. I just love being able to have breakfast in the room and the ability to toss things in the washer/dryer. I feel as if you get "two" vacations at these resorts because you have all the excitement of the parks but you also have the luxury of spreading out and relaxing, too.

Bus transportation will be similar (maybe even faster) than what you experienced at the WL. Certain areas of SSR are close enough that you can walk over to the DD bus "hub" and get direct buses to almost everywhere. Friends of mine really loved that.

I "settled" for OKW once, and now I own 325 pts there! :rotfl: It's a lovely, laid back "hotel", and I like it MUCH better than either CR or WL. I stayed at SSR last summer for 3 nights, and there was so much to do there, that we never left the resort! The zero-entrance pool at SSR is great, and they have a neat kids area at the main pool. Your DW will love the massage, which is right at the main pool. You haven't experienced luxury, either, until you have tried a grande villa at either one of these resorts! You need to see it for yourself--I have stayed at every resort on-property, and OKW is my favorite, with SSR close behind. :sunny:

We are DVC members at OKW and absolutely love the resort. I get queasy on boats so boat transp. from WL to MK does not appeal to me (same with BW to MGM). THe spaciousness of OKW accommodations is amazing and I think the theming is very appealing...not cutesy Disney but beautiful tropical colors and lush landscaping.

Our family stayed at SSR in January and loved it. :thumbsup2 It's a peaceful, beautiful resort. Our kids loved it too.

Own at BWV and love it there. Also love to stay at OKW, cann't help not liking it there.
