Will we even enjoy US?

This thread is from September. Hopefully, they have already gone since they were using a SuperBowl ticket which expired the end of December. I also wonder if they went and had fun. I guess we'll never know. Just one of those mysteries of life.

It tends to be less crowded than Disney too, depending on the time of year. It's a more relaxing experience in a way.

Hi--we'll be taking our very first trip to IOA in November ....we're taking one day from our Disney trip (11.14--11.21...the week before Thanksgiving) to visit.

I'm was thinking we'd probably go to IOA on that Thursday...but wondered if you might have another recommendation on a particular day of the week to go that would be the most ideal crowd level.

Since we've never been...we don't really know what to expect in regards to crowds.

Any advice you can give us would be great...thanks!!!

I like both Disney and Universal for different reasons, but of all the theme parks in Orlando, I think Universal Studios is the best one of all - especailly if you aren't all that into extreme roller coasters. Wish someone would give me free tickets!

If your prone to vertigo, skip Simpsons. My family told me I'd love it. I had a hard time feeling right after that ride Personally, I had to stay away from many rides, including Spiderman, MIB and Simpsons. But I LOVED Universal. I spent time in the I Love Lucy shop; Shrek; Suess Landing... It was all so fun. I just held the backpack; glasses; water etc. while DD10 and DH did more thrilling rides. I had a blast just being in the moment. Feeling the warm sun on my face and the beautiful theaming and the food. Oh yeah, the hotel pool, with drink in hand yee haw, mardi gras, churros, ahhhhhhhhh vacation is good ya!

First, it's been 13 years since we've been to US. It is just DH & I and we have free admission...DH has the Superbowl free voucher, I have a free ticket (using Coke pts) for just US. We're taking a day from our Disney trip in November and head over there. DH does not like coasters, I'm not big on them either. He is OK with some rides if he takes Bonine. I told him IOA is definitely not for him, but he's got a freebie so go check it out. Anyway, will we enjoy US...it's a freebie so we're going but I was just wondering how the rides are.

People need to realise that Disney and Universal are 2 different things but both are great.

Disney has the superior theming (by far IMO), is better looking, and is great for shows, parades and fireworks. The rides are also great but I wouldnt consider many of them if any at all to be true thrill / scary rides.

Universal on the other hand is themed well but not as good as Disney (Jurrasic park aside which is outstanding), the park IMO isnt as well presented but the rides do really make the place. Spiderman is unparralled in terms of quality, Simpsons is better than any simulator at Disney, Shrek and Terminator are up there alongside the best 3D shows while the Mummy which although is a bit short is up there with Rock n Roll rollercoaster and Everest for quality.

i was fine up untill about 4 years ago and then all of a suden i would feel sick after the smallest ride. i can even pinpoint it to going on mission space for the first time. since then even dumbo's ride makes me sick. i have found if i take some travel sickness tablets to the park i can at least get on most of the rides.

I think that week you should be alright. We went the Saturday before Labor day and it was so quiet. I was really worried about going on a Saturday but the only long wait would have been for the new rip it coaster. That was over a two hour wait because it was just opening up. The posted wait was 10 min for the hulk but took longer because the group before Dd and Dh had someone throw up. The line for the jurrasic flyers thing was well over an hour also so we skipped that. Everything else was very short. Dueling dragons was almost a walk on also. They did both sides very quickly.

Funny that you should say that b/c my DH thought Universal was miles away from Disney wrt theming. He said it didn't feel nearly as fakey-fakey as Disney parks.

Thank you so much for your input...and wow gross about the Hulk...could you imagine riding with the poor unfortunate that hurled!! gah!!

I think it depends on what you look for. IMO, Universal is better themed than DHS, and is laid out better as well.

IOA is incredibly well themed everywhere, from the trash cans, to the light poles, etc, all fit the area they're located in perfectly IMO.

Having said that, both Universal and Disney have had some temporary things which severely affect the "feel" of an area (Examples: High School Musical sitting in the middle of Tomorrowland a few years back, and the timeshare people who were in places like the Lost Contient at IOA).

Both imagineer/universal creative members must really hate when management tries to interrupt their designs like this.
