Will this help elections?

It seems to me, amid all the discussions of voting and who to vote for, that voting hours, days, etc. are the decision of the counties, not just the State or Federal government.

Do you think it would be wise for the Federal government to mandate a week long voting period for every Federal election? It seems to me that this would be more fair to everyone involved. Of course, the US government would have to step up with funding, but then everyone would have the same equipment, times, etc.

Also, why don't we AUTOMATICALLY register every citizen and legal person in the US to vote when they turn 18. No problem in other countries who do this. An ID at the polling place ought to do it for identification.

What do you think?

Well, while it is good in theory, people that don't have a clue will be voting.

In addition as an American, you have the right not to vote? As weird as it is to say it that is one of our freedoms.

Think of having to enforce everyone voting or registering to vote everytime they move.

I just moved twice and had to register and then register another change of address (before the last day). While not daunting, I could see it could be hard to enforce that.

Good luck with selling this idea....

"More fair" is a very subjective thing. Local county and state election officials who would be giving up their individual power would definitely disagree that a federal system would be "more fair".

Definitely a bad idea. Such a system would only invite more opportunity for mischief. We need to get rid of this early voting and no-fault absentee voting so we can clean up the process and make it more transparent. We're moving in the wrong direction.

I think Oregon does it the right way.

ALL PAPER, either Mailed in or dropped of at specific locations!:thumbsup2

Seems like a great idea to me. So what if you have to re-register when you move? You have to do that anyway.

I'd get rid of all early voting, but expand the polling to long days, say 6am to 10pm. Voting is not only a right, but a responsibility. People have to take some responsibility to getting to their polling place during the polling hours.
