Yes, really. Otherwise, what would stop people from loading up a week's worth of food and carting it out in doggy bags?

I've NEVER seen buffets anywhere allow a doggy bag. Although it never stopped my great-grandmother from stuffing rolls in her purse much to everyone else's dismay.

As always there have been exceptions made. We were at the Crystal Palace for lunch once and the table next to us asked to take dessert to go and they were given containers and told to help themselves My SIL and I were a little shocked but it did happen!

1) Frequently they do let you take a dessert serving per person.
2) After all, you could get full.
3) But, you can't take meal/entrée food.
4) It is just trying to pig-out for later and eat more than your share.
5) Basically, it is cheating.

NOTE: I have seen people take a full meal for someone who could not attend. (I think the missing person was sick and in the room.) Of course, they paid the full price, and a take-out box can't hold as much as one could eat at the table. So, this was acceptable.

I don't know of any buffet anywhere that allows food to be taken out in Doggy Bags. A buffet is priced to be all you can eat while you are there

It's just not the "done" thing at a buffet - anywhere, not just at Disney. Personally, I wouldn't want to carry around food in the park anyway.

All the CMs we ran into at buffets were nice about encouraging us to take a piece of fruit or something along. Especially since we had a toddler who was too overwhelmed to eat at the table and then would get hungry in her stroller 10 minutes later. We would take her juice, too. But I never expected anything...

18 year ago when I was pregnant I went to a buffet and could not eat what was on my plate. I asked to take it and was told no. It was not like I was getting new food to take. I told them I it would just be thrown out and they said that was a rule. So maybe some health code rule. Never asked again.

Consider yourself lucky. I remember going to a restaurant with my great aunt. She wrapped her glass in a napkin and put it in her purse. I was mortified. I guess I recovered because I had forgotten about that until I just read this.

Generally all Buffets have to have a no doggy bag rule.

How would they know whether or not you planned to eat the food you put on your plate? If you knew take boxes were available for that last plate maybe you got extra the last time around.

I'm not saying thats what you did, but now you have a server that has to determine whether or not you intended to eat the food on your plate. Its just easier to say no.

A long time ago when I worked at McDonald's where food was pre-made and put in the warming trays that we called the bin, we always had to waste(throw away) the food at the end of the night. If I knew that I could take home the left over food, I would have tossed a few more quarter pounders on the grill at closing.

There was a thread a few days back that said that maybe at the "all you care to eat" family style restaurants you could take what was left in your skillet or bowls, but that was only if you didn't ask for seconds or you seemed under the weather and the server knew you didn't eat.

No doggiebags - but at a breakfast buffet with fresh fruit, we have taken a piece of fruit with no problem.

I think we have been given no hassles about fresh fruit because most people eat the eggs, waffles, pancakes, ham, bacon, cakes, cookies, danishes, sweet stuff .....

Not many people eat the fresh fruit, even though the frsh fruit is usually in a nice display and most likely the most heathiest item on the buffet !

Our CM at Chef Mickey's suggested we take a banana for our youngest as she did not eat a bite the whole time we were there due to panic over the characters. I think that's perfectly acceptable, but a doggy bag for other stuff, no....
