OK - Let me preface this by saying that I am not a huge fan of upgrading a child to an adult when on the FREE dining plan...as I kind of feel that it is ripping off disney since they're giving it for free, so I'm not really paying the difference for food. That said, it has been stated on these boards many times that it is 'allowed' by Disney so I guess they know better than I do whether they're getting ripped off....So, I now have a 9 year old and, obviously, would like to upgrade him during free dining.
Now, for our plans I don't see many issues except for expanding his selections a ton. One sticky point for me is at Narcoossee's. I'm hoping to get a reservation there. We like to do a couple 2 credit meals/shows as we do not like having a sit down every day - too much food! So we're going to try this place since I LOVE lobster!
My son would likely eat a few of the choices on the adult menu as he is not picky...however, it is entirely possible at that time that he will feel like a cheeseburger. Even though I'm not paying a ton more - I am paying to upgrade him so I feel like to pay 2 adult credits for a $7.00 cheeseburger meal is a bit much. I was wondering if they would let me order an appetizer as his meal OR a different adult meal (to share/try) and then pay OOP for a kids cheeseburger for him. So essentially my family of 4 would order 5 meals - and pay OOP for one of them. I would think the server would like it - he/she would get a bigger tip than if we just had 4 meals with two of them being kids meals and cheap. But I'm not sure if they will allow it.
Don't want to cheat anything - so we will be 'paying' 2 full adult credits for a $7 burger if this isn't doable. Hey - we're getting it for free anyway so I can't complain!
