Hi. I am thinking of buying resale (BWV or BCV.) I want to do a trip this summer - mid June. If I have to wait approx 2 months to close on the deal, will it be difficult to get a 2 bedroom for mid June? Simply asked: how early does one need to book for June for a 2 bedroom for an apprx 2 week long stay?

If you do not want to do a split stay (2 or more resorts) then I would say that it is 50/50 at best and that is if you are not particular about what resort and you will likely have to waitlist for parts. If you are willing to split your stay at multiple resorts then I would give it a 95% chance since there are not any "special days" during June.

It shouldn't be impossible. Most likely, you will have a chance to get a reservation at SSR and/or OKW, the two largest DVC resorts. And be prepared for a split-stay as the previous poster said. But instead of thinking of that as a negative, view it as a chance to check out more of the DVC resorts! :thumbsup2

As others have said, you could most likely get a reservation, but it might have to be a split stay and you won't have first pick of resorts that short notice. Now, you could get lucky and get what you want...it does happen, just don't count on it. I would actually say you are most likely to get SSR or Kidani, they seem to be the ones with the most availability lately followed by OKW (remember it has a lower point total) and my unofficial opinion is that I seem to see more people having the option between Kidani and SSR...maybe with the point reallocation OKW has picked up bookings for those that fell short on their annual trips.

Thanks for your honest answers, although I admit it doesn't encourage me to rush to buy DVD before this trip. I need to do it further ahead of the trip next time. I just can't get excited about ssr or okw. kidani would be ok

You have been reading these boards too mcuh...LOL. Honestly, I love SSR and would rather stay there than at AKV again. Now, let me tell you this is a personal opinion and I will say that is the reason I say you have been reading the boards too much. Everyone has their opinion and people are very vocal about THEIR opinion. The most sought after resort....BCV's, was a huge let down for me and while I wasn't miserable or wouldn't be horrified to stay there again, I don't feel the need to go back again. As far as AKV, I did like it, but I don't need to spend extra points for savannah views, etc. I love DTD and absolutely hate Disney transportation to get there, so SSR is great for me! That alone is worth it, but I also enjoy the resort, I don't like being cramped with a bunch of people, etc. Each resort has its own appeal and they are all unique in their own right, I would never be disappointed in any of the DVC's if that is where the availability was, I am happy to make it to Disney and enjoy different resorts while I am there!

When I called MS earlier this week, there was only 1 two bedroom villa left at Kidani for the 1st week of June. I'm not sure I would count on Kidani being a choice for a June stay - more likely SSR and OKW.

Same input here. SSR and OKW usually have availability at that time. You may get lucking in other resorts as I find June is usually more open that the rest of summer. However, Disney is getting very popular and it is hard to predict availability.

Good luck

They more could become available again at the 7 month mark. I think many people book what they need at their home resorts as soon as they can (11 month) and then try to get something different at 7 month. At least that's what I do. That way I have a place to stay for sure if nothing else works, but if I can get something I haven't tried yet, I still can switch at 7 months.

But we are already beyond the 7 month mark for the OP time frame--June.

Availability changes, though, all the time so one never knows. With short notice summer bookings, I think you have to be flexible of doing a split stay and/or having at least some of your trip at SSR or OKW.

@ TisBit -- I LOVED your statement about everyone liking different resorts and there is no "one" resort for all people. I too thought BCV were simply ok -- and I stayed there in a nice two-bedroom unit. However, my all time favorite resort is AKL. lol. I have put in an offer to buy a contract with AKL
(160 points), and I hope to get it. When I do get it one of the first places I want to go is to SSR! For some reason SSR doesn't seem that appreciated on the boards, but when I visited there just for a walk through the last time I was at Disney, I thought it was wonderful enough so that I'd like to at least stay there.

so again, thank you for putting it so well that there is no one resort for all.

Now, if you would kindly explain the point reallocation statement you made, I would really appreciate that.:confused3

We bought and got our points about 6 weeks before our trip over Christmas and New Years. We bought at BWV but were able to get a studio room for our entire trip (~20 nights) at SSR. It also is not our first choice, but we did enjoy it. We were near Downtown (10min walk) and had a great view of all of downtown. It was nice to sit on the balcony and listen to all the bustle and pick out entertainment that we recognized. I had to do a lot of calling and waitlists to get the entire time in 1 room, but it worked.

I am in ROFR right now at SSR and hoping to get a room for the last week of Nov first week of Dec...and I'm worried too!

I think that booking two weeks at one resort at the 3 month mark will be hard to do. Mid June might be easier than the end of June. More schools are out in the last half of June so more families take their vacations before summer camps and sports start. I would expect that you might have to do a split stay and if you are lucky you'll get a week at two resorts. It's always easier to fit it late reservations for 3 or 4 night versus a week or more.

I think you'll be okay. You'll be able to make a reservation at SSR still in your home resort booking advantage period (more than 7 months to 11 months). Now if you want to book another resort for that period at 7 months you'll be in the same boat as many others. Wilderness Lodge is the hardest resort to get into during December especially at the 7 month mark. But people also switch from their home resort to other resorts then as well so villas become available so I feel everyone still has a good chance at the 7 month mark for all of the resorts except for VWL. And if you can't switch at the 7 month mark, well you still have the home resort reservation you've made before the 7 month mark.

I think you should be fine the last week in November, 1st week in December.
My home resort is Vero, but we always go to Disney and book within the 7 month window and there always has been availability.

Thanks for all the input. The limited availability for my not-so-flexible travel times has taken a bit of wind out of my sails/ sale ;) I think it would be a much better deal if I lived closer and could go at off peak times. I'll be back if I get back in the buying mode.
