Will there be confusion if I load Credt Card onto my key card with DDP

We are leaving a week from tomorrow. Yay. Anyway, I am bringing a credit card, and want to use the option of having it scanned onto my resort key card for purchases. This may seem a silly question, but will there be confusion when I submit the card to use the DDP crfedits? Or are they separated somehow? I just do not want meals on the dining plan to go onto my credit card.

we learned our lesson with putting charging privelages on our DDP card years ago. There have been several occasions where our card was charged instead of the DDP used. Now we add charging privelages to one card and do not present that card when we pay for dinner. We have never had any problems since. If your meal does get charged it is reversable but...then you have to spend time at the front desk to correct it. One trip we had 3 so that was almost 3 hours at the front desk.

We always load the room card, and just carry that with us. It's probably safer also. Several years ago we ate at Cape May. Our CC got double-charged. I only found out by accident because the card company called us to report suspicious activity. When we went over all the transactions, we found that the card was charged for the meal, and then 15 minutes later charged for the tip, and the meal AGAIN. It was like a $120 over charge. We went to Cape May the very next morning to complain, but they refused to do anything about it. They claimed that they did not double charge, even though I had the transaction #, time and date fromt the credit card people. I finally had to have the cc company deal with it.

Even at Disney you still have to be careful!

We will never have charging priviledges on our room card while using the DDP. On a recent trip our cc was charged twice in one day instead of using our ddp credits. For a snack and a QS meal. We had to go to the front desk at WL and get the credits swtiched and the CM took the charges off of our card. It only takes the CM to push a incorrect button instead of the ddp credit button and poof! your card has been charged. So when we use the DDP we refuse charing priviledges. Just our experience.

personley would never put a CC on room key,on ddp or not.How many people put it on every key even kids then someone leasve a key on table while going to pool.We have alwasy been tought keep card in line of site so resturants we pay cash if not on ddp.

That seems like a false sense of security. If you lose your cash, it's gone forever. If you lose your card, or get an incorrect charge, you're well protected by the credit card company. And as for charges on kid's keys, that's not possible. The guest has to be 18 or over to have charging priviledges.

Actually, that is untrue - both my DDs (who were then 12 and 13) had charging privileges on their room keys last October. The CM at check-in did ask us if we wanted them to have it (as they were under 16) but they were allowed to have it.

I do agree, though, that I would rather risk losing my KTTW card than my credit card, TCs or cash.

To answer the OPs question, though, the suggestion about just having charging privileges on one KTTW would alleviate any possible problems with mixing up charging to the room and deducting DDP credits :)

We've had no problem with our cc# and DDP on all cards. It is a good idea to check that the server has done what you want but that is easy to do. The balance will be zero with credits on the final copy. If there's a mistake, they can correct it on the spot.

As for the Cape May problem, I think it would have been better to go to the concierge desk with that rather than back to the restaurant itself which probably has no access to records from a previous day.

We complained at all levels, with no relief. It was a rather surprising experience. I suspect that some crooked employee had a back-door into the charge system that the hotel couldn't track.

Also agree that KTTW cards seem safer and that kids under 18 can charge on them. Our eldest had charging on his card at a rather early age because he was so responsible.

We split up too at times so putting DDP on one card and charging on another would be a pain! What if you want to get a bottle of H20 while others are on TOT and you don't have the card with DDP on it. Too much hassle for me.:confused3

But I guess we all choose our own hassles.

Wow, that would be very disappointing and frustrating!

I thought it was illegal for someone under 18 to have a card, but I guess a room charge is a loophole in that. I hope my DD isn't reading this.

Thank you. Guess I will reconsider. I am trqaveling with another person, but it will not ne feasable to put the CC on one and use the other for the DDP as we plan to split up at times, so we will not always be eating together.

We always put CC privileges on the (adults) room keys so we don't have to carry around our credit cards. If you lose a KTTW card, it takes your resort only a minute to cancel and reissue it (not that I know from personal experience or anything ), but if you lose a CC, it can take a week or more to get the replacement (nope--that's never happened to me either :rolleyes1).

As to the Cape May debacle, sorry it was such a hassle for you, FDV. But had it been a room charge, I'm sure the hotel concierge would have been able to fix it before it ever went on your CC. Not that that gave the Cape May people the right to be so difficult, but it would have been a much quicker fix.

In 2006, we had 2 TS restaurants accidentally charge the room instead of use DDP credits, and last month had one CS restaurant do it. I always looked at the receipts they gave back to us, and it took less than a minute to fix the problems. Really, if you just get into the habit of checking your receipts, it's no big deal. And checking your DDP receipts is something you should do anyway, whether or not you have CC privileges on the card, because CM's can make mistakes there, too. Whether it's accidentally adding a zero on the end of your 2 Dole whips (there go 20 snack credits), or double charging you for your TS meal (which you don't figure out until the last day, when you go to pay that $200 Le Cellier bill and you have no credits left :scared1:), it happens--CM's are only human.

Before you check out, it's always a good idea to get a printout of all your room charges (front desk folks are happy to do this anytime, 3 times a day if you want) and check them. It's so much easier to fix when you're still there than it is after you've left and the one big charge has gone onto your credit card.

I would just put the CC on your room card. It makes things a lot easier. Receipts show you if the cashier used a room charge or the DDP. Also, when handing the cast member the card just remind them its the DDP you want to use.

you're well protected by the credit card company. .

that may be the case with usa folks, but us in the uk ar`nt covered by that law

Really? So if your credit card is stolen, and thieves run up the bill, you have to pay? Sounds like a good reason to emmigrate to the USA!

I see. Here in the US, it's so easy to use a stolen CC that the CC companies have no choice but to take complete responsibility. Many stores never check signatures. We even have self checkout, you scan your own merchandise, insert stolen credit card, and away you go. The only protection is those grainy closed circuit cameras that are so bad, you can't recognize your own mother on them.

we have some protection here in Australia, but not as extensive as in the US
