Will the presidential election keep people at home?

We are planning to go to WDW during "Jersey Week" this year. Our particular school district has given the ENTIRE week off this year, due to an early labor day and the presidential election.

Do you think that the election being that week will help to keep anyone home (not just people from NJ) or am I being overly hopeful for small crowds?

Overly Hopeful. The election will have no impact IMHO. I would not rearrange my vacation for that. I would just submit an absentee ballot.

Nice Wishing though :)

I wouldn't think that the election would keep anyone home. Even if someone really wanted to vote they could just get an absentee ballot and vote prior to leaving on their trip. I would imagine more people from NJ might make the trek if a lot of NJ schools are like yours and close for the week (due to the election)

We are going Jersey Week (11-2-2008 to 11-8-2008) and I am getting an absentee ballot.
IMO the election will not keep crowds away from WDW.

We were at DisneyWorld during the election between Bush and Gore...I remember sitting at the Rainforest Cafe in DTD having dinner on Election night, hearing how close the vote was.....

the crowds were very strong that year (yes, that darn Jersey Week)..and since then we've sworn off going between Election Day and Vets Day...even though it makes for a good break with minimal interruption to the kids' school schedule, the crowds have really gotten BIG.

An election is not even close to the top of my list of things to do.

I know I am going to sound like your high school American Government teacher:teacher: , but ...... it is important to exercise your right to vote, especially in a presidential election. I would hope that even if a lot of people go to WDW at that time, they take time to get an absentee ballot and vote that way. I guess this sounds nerdy, but I was always taught that voting was really important. :hippie: :hippie: :hippie:

I doubt it people will vote ahead of time like most posters have said. Myself I plan on being out of country but will vote before I leave.

Wishful thinking on the OP. People can vote absentee ballots. The election will have no impact on WDW travellers.

Also Florida has early voting - we can vote up to 3 weeks early in person (not absentee). No issue with Florida Voters! :goodvibes

How late will the Hall of Presidents stay open on election night? :happytv:

It is rather sad to think most Americans don't vote but are quick to blast the new president or the goverment. I remember when a certain person who was running for president & all the people who complain about him, & telling people get out there & vote against him. I found out when I work on election day through the time they open & when they closed. Most of the people voting were middle age or older folks with many people in their late twenties or in their thirties. No one early twenties or younger voted. I asked one of my friend's son did he vote who was 20 at the time said no, none of his friends voted. I told him then you have no grounds to complain anymore about how this country is run if you can't be "adult" enough to go out & vote. I know he could have voted as he was off that day.

I tend to be out of the country now days but I DO VOTE when there is an election but do it beforehand. MHO

I have never missed an election and don't plan to start now.....but then I'll be going right after Thanksgiving.

Personally, I think the economy, expensive health insurance, food price increases and costly fuel will keep some people home.

The good news for Anaheim - as long as the dollar drops - they will just fill those rooms and parks with guests from Europe and Great Britian. Folks in Great Britian are basically getting everything at 50% discounts due to the week dollar for example.
