Will the Canon Rebel XT price drop? When?

I'm curious, of those of you around when the Rebel 350D was replaced by the XT, was it a while before the older model started to come down in price?

Did it drop much at all in the first few months?

I'm ready to take the plunge and will be getting the XT, but if it means some savings, I can wait a little longer.

Any speculation?

Right, that's the same as the Rebel XTi, right?...
which is why I'm thinking there might be a chance the price might start to come down a little.

What I'm wondering is if this drop is something that won't really appear for a few months or if it happens pretty quickly as the camera becomes available.

I'm dying to get it to start playing with it and learning about it, but our big trip isn't until December, so I really could wait it out if there's a chance of some savings.

The 300D did was replaced by the XT(350d), but Canon said the 300D would still be sold for the remainder of the year(2005). It did not, etailers cleared it out ASAP. The 300D had already gone through its biggest priced drops prior to the xt replacing it, remember the MSRP at release was $999 for the body alone.

When they did intoduce the XT @ $899, they reduced the 300d msrp to 799 but it was selling in the higher 600s till cleared out at most etailers.

So now that the XTI(400D) is being introduced @ $799 the new MSRP of the XT might be $699, so following the same pattern my guess is that it will be cleared out in the upper $500s. You can hold out for a lower price but you will run the risk of it being gone when you finally decide to purchase. If it were me considering buying the Rebel XT(350d), I would do it a week or two afer the 400D hits the store shelves any additional price drops after that would not be worth the risk of missing out on it forever.

That would also give you a chance to hold and play with the 400D so you don't end up with buyers remorse....If it truely is better, and it is being introduced at the same price that the XT is at currently, then you might want to take a look at it.

Personally, I'd wait for the 450D. :teeth:
