Will the AP Magic Bands allow double dip w/ Resort Bands?

A thought just occurred to me, apologies if it's been asked before...

We are out of state AP holders, and used the recent Expedia.co.uk sale to book 5 long weekend stays. I recently logged into set up our Magic Bands for our upcoming May trip, and saw the option to customize our AP bands as well.

So, hypothetically, if we go to the park with our AP band on one wrist and the band from our resort on the other, couldn't we theoretically make 3 Fast Pass+ selections per band? So 6 per day?

Very curious to see how that plays out!

(not saying I -would- abuse the system that way, just curious if that quirk will be possible. Though if Mine Train is open by then I wouldn't be opposed to 2 Fastpasses for it a day... ;-)

Nope.

Fastpasses are linked to your ticket not your band. So if each band was linked to a different ticket, you could get FPs for each band. But I believe you would have to exit the park and then reenter with your 2nd band to use those Fastpasses.

Your information is in "the cloud" aka a big database somewhere and not on the band itself. MB's can be used interchangeably because they all pull from the same information.

The key question is whether you linked your APs to your upcoming May trip via your MDE. If you did, then scanning those MBs will direct back to the same account as your APs and will allow you just one set of FP+.

However, if you did *not* link your tickets to your resort reservation, *and* you are willing to give up FP+ advance bookings (which is a significant sacrifice), you will be able to get two sets of FP+ from the park kiosks when you arrive. This only works if you never link your tickets to your MDE/resort reservation.

At the moment, the system doesn't require you to link your tickets to your MDE (through which you made your resort reservation). (So you would not enter with the MBs - you would enter with your AP.) However, if you want to make FP+ in advance online, you *do* have to link your tickets.

And, of course, Disney will in all probability start requiring any ticket media (pass or MB) to be activated upon entry before it can be used at FP+ kiosks.

At the moment, the system is set up to assign FP+ to any MB, whether it has been linked to a ticket or not. This will probably change, but that's how it is now.

But if you haven't linked your ticket info to your MDE, the MBs won't pull that information and will assign a separate set of FP+ from the passes themselves.

That doesn't make any sense. MDE only allows you to pick FP+ for a number of days equal to your ticket. So why would it like you make picks if there is no ticket?

Because you can currently get a MB for a room key without a ticket and use a ticket (such as an AP) for park entry separate from that MB. At the kiosk, the band can have FP+ added to it.

So, OP is suggesting that the band with his AP on it would be used for advanced FP+ (through MDE) and admission, while his "room key" band could be used to add FP+ once in the park at the kiosk. It would show that he is a resort guest, but would not show a linked ticket. The cast member would most likely add them, as many guests enter the park on any given day with multiple types of "complimentary" admission.

I think that will work, until they figure out how to link complimentary passes to the bands...not that I am encouraging any such thing. :thumbsup2

It means you do not link your AP or ticket to the same MDX account to which you have linked your resort stay. And give up the prebooking - be willing to book all of your FP+ same day, at the park kiosks.

That's the whole enchilada.

As of right now, any MB can be used at a park kiosk to obtain same-day FP+ reservations. From any stay -- one from last fall or last month or last week.

Online picks (in advance) are a separate issue. You do have to have your tickets linked to your MDE to make FP+ in advance. And the number of days you can choose online are presumably related to your upcoming resort stay.

It all has to do with how they handle "anonymous profiles" - i.e. a user who just has a ticket and no MDX account. And MDX account is not required for day-of-only use, and making someone set up a profile at the kiosk would just make it slower and more complicated. So the idea is that Fastpass+ selections can be linked to an unassociated ticket via a temporary anonymous profile.

It seems that a MagicBand in the parks, at least without any active ticket associated with it, can also draw day-of FP+.

It's a pretty easy fix, methinks, unless there is a reason for it...

It would be interesting to know if:

1) If there IS a valid ticket in the MDX profile associated with the band, but it wasn't used to enter the park and a separate ticket used instead, could you get advanced FP+ and still utilize them?

2) Can a separate ticket NOT used to enter the parks draw day-of FP+?

So, if I make a reservation off a throw away campsite for next month, disney I'll send me magic bands with no tickets. Now if I do online check in, I never have to show up. Then when I travel several months later with magic bands with tickets linked, I can pick 3 FP+ In advance sync use my other magic bands to pick 3 day of FP+. ????

I do not think a disney has thought this through. I bet some folks have several magic bands sitting at home already.

No, I don't think you can use multiple MagicBands this way, unless you can link them to completely separate profiles.

Right now it sees you need a MagicBand without a ticket, and a separate ticket.

If you enter the park with a ticket and also have an MB associated with another ticket, the entry ticket and the MB will give separate sets of FP+ at the park kiosks. Actually, you could use either one to make advance FP+ on separate MDEs since you have two different tickets.

A ticket *not* used for entry does work the draw day-of FP+. Ticket media does not have to be activated at entry to be used at the FP+ kiosks.

That could change at any time, of course.

I don't think you can pick FP+ in advance if you don't have an upcoming reservation, but haven't tried this myself. So I believe you can only bring back those MBs from a previous trip and use them for FP+ in the kiosks in the park for same-day FP+. If your other MBs are linked to the same tickets as the new set, you won't get a second set of FP+ as all the MBs will refer back to the same MDE/ticket info. However, if you other MBs are not linked to any tickets, you can use them in the parks at the kiosks for a second set of same-day FP+.

The various sets of MBs that people have sitting at home are probably all linked to the same tickets on MDE. In that case, every single MB will refer back to the same MDE. No matter how many ticket-linked MBs you have, you will only get one set of FP+.

The salient point is that you may not want to link your MDE to your tickets -- in that case, every set of MBs you have will give you a separate set of FP+ at park kiosks. And you will not be able to get any advance FP+ bookings (because you have to have a ticket linked to MDE for that).

Couldn't you just "de-link" old MBs for this trick to work? If the old MBs are delinked from your MM+ account, would they still be able to be used at a FP+ kiosk?

Going back to OP's original point, an AP holder with a previous on-site stay who has their AP linked to that band would be able to do advanced FP+ for future trips, whether staying on-site or not. So, for each on-site stay after the first, if the AP is not linked to that ressie, those bands would work at the kiosk. Thus allowing, 3 advanced FP+ and day-of FP+ at the kiosk with two separate bands.
