Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack? ~A Pirate's Life for 3 Pre-Trippie~ We're back!

We had a great weekend, although I am still wiped out from our flurry of activity. I'll definitely be posting more on that later, but now I need to go get ready....to bring Mom and Nana to the airport....why, you ask?

Because they're going to DISNEYWORLD! :lmao:

We actually haven't told DS that's where they're going...he's old enough to know what we're talking about when we say that now. So they're going on a plane, and he and I are driving them to the airport, and DS, we're going to stay in the car, and then I'll take you to look at planes.

Everybody pray for me that this strategy works as he sees two of his favorite people leaving without him. :scared1:

Ah well, if I'm lucky, they'll meet Captain Jack at a Pirate and Princess party and get me some prime photos. Keep your fingers crossed! :thumbsup2

I'll cross my fingers for you too...hoping your plan works out.
I am insanely jealous your Mom & Nana are going! Details, Details! Where are they staying, how long, etc, etc! We need to live vicariously through them!! :goodvibes

OMG I hope no one slips up and spills the beans:eek:
I'm telling you this because I know you'll understand and empathise as you're in the same boat with your little peanut. DD2 and I went to the nursery today for an interview and a tour:scared: ...she's now confirmed to start in August 2.5hrs 5days/week. I was definatley a bit sad but when I saw her running over to play with all the other kids during the tour I knew it's the best thing for her...not sure about me though:sad:

Oh, I do feel for you. Did I ever tell you that I dropped off the registration fee for DS for preschool? I finally did, and I love the place he's supposed to go. The only problem is, he's still not potty trained. And they have to be fully trained to go. I am torn. He knows how to use the potty, but unless I stay on top of him about it all day long, he will not do it on his own. Never mind pooping. He always does that in his diaper. It is so rough, if I push him, it becomes a power struggle, if I don't, he just doesn't do it. And, if we use my vacation ticker as a guideline, he needs to be trained a week before that because that's when school starts. I guess if he can't go to school, I'm just going to have to enroll him in some sort of class, like a gymnastics or a tiny tot sport because he really, really needs the social interaction.

So, I am right there with you. If you need anyone to talk to about it, feel free! :)

Thanks for the support sometimes it's no fun being a neurotic mummy:rotfl: . Niamh has been raving on about how much she likes the nursery it's obviously a big improvement on being stuck with boring old mummy all day;)

I think your DS will be potty trained by the time he goes to school, if he knows the drill just now it's just a case of biding your time. Niamh was a bit funny with pooing as well but then it was just like someone flicked a switch and all of a sudden she went in the potty and that was that. As soon as she did that she turned round and said she didn't want nappies at night :cool1: . I wouldn't get your knickers in a twist over it or make it an issue as he'll do it in his own good time:thumbsup2

Yay for details!

My mom owned a daycare/preschool while I was growing up so I am famillar with potty training struggles. She swears that it took her until my brother was 12 to get him fully potty trained. :lmao:

Does anyone else get the overwhelming feeling that they've over-planned their entire vacation?

This has been bothering me for the past couple of days.

I think I'm completely overwhelmed by this being my first three of us trip, and I've gotten wrapped up in the concept of must-do, even with all the built in relaxation time, my happy little spreadsheet is starting to look like I've happily planned every little detail. I mean, reading my previous chapters, I've planned in relaxing! :lmao: Gosh...me...TK...how possible?

Now granted, there as some things I would really, really like to see...ahem...cough, cough, Jack Sparrow, cough, cough, SpectroMagic..ahem...

And of course we all have our favorite rides, right?

So I think what I need to do is have a little chapter where I list out my favorites. And then, as my Grammy (great-grandmother) so colorfully put it, once we make said lists, we'll kiss it up to God.

So here goes...

Wilderness Lodge - Silver Creek Pool, Explore Resort, Sit in Rocking Chair by Fireplace, Electrical Water Pagaent

Magic Kingdom - Pirates of the Caribbean, The Main St Railroad, The Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, Mickey's Philharmagic, (for DS: Dumbo, Snow White, Pooh and whatever other Fantasyland whatnot we can cram in), Buzz Lightyear, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, possibly if DS is brave Barnstormer, SPECTROMAGIC

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party - (pray that it doesn't rain for once) Meet Characters (Jack Sparrow & Tarzan...need I say more?), Get Candy, Watch Headless Horseman Ride Down Main St, Boo to You Parade, Hallowishes, Have Oodles of Piratey Fun

Epcot - Spaceship Earth, Character Connection, Visa Meet & Greet, The Seas with Nemo, Turtle Talk with Crush, World Showcase Touring with stops at Kidcots, Illuminations

Animal Kingdom - Safari, Various Jungle Treks, Boneyard, Lion King/Nemo if we can swing it, meet some characters, train/petting zoo

MGM - Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, Toy Story Mania, meet characters, catch whatever shows fit into our schedule like Beauty & the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Lights, Motors, Action, The American Film Institute Gallery, the claw machine in Pizza Planet

Downtown Disney - Once Upon a Toy, World of Disney, Goofy's Candy Company

And obviously, our desired list of eats: Casey's Hot Dog, Dole Whip, Tonga Toast, Every Slushy Coke I Can Find, Yummy Make My Own Treat at Goofy's, Yummy Junky Apple in MGM

And, who can forget shopping...

So there you have it. My crazy list of this vacation which is supposed to be relaxing, and unplanned, and chill.

I think it still can be. I think once I sink into my little brain that we do go every year, and that it will all still be there for us again, it will be okay.

I think I need a new mantra.

It will all be okay.

It will all be okay.

In 4 months and 2 days I will meet Jack Sparrow.

In 4 months and 2 days I will meet Jack Sparrow.

Breathe in, breathe out...

ahhh......

Okay...I think that helped. :rotfl2:

This is EXACTLY how I have been feeling. I sat down with DF last night to try and figure it out...there are not enough nights to get in all the night stuff with everything else planned. :headache: I want to relax too!! I am glad I am not the only one, makes me feel so much better!!

How did the airport go?

I think perhaps we need a support group. And I second the motion that our motto will be "we're all mad here." I just feel so overwhelmed right now, and a little bummed.

How did the airport go?

Very, very well. When DS wanted to know where they were going as we were driving away, I said on vacation. Oh, he said, they go to see Horton? See one of the biggest things to happen in his life in the past couple of weeks is one afternoon my parents took him to see Horton Hears a Who in the theaters. Well, to DS, this was just the bee's knees. He got his own small popcorn, and they said he behaved very well. So I guess to him, that is the epitome of happy right now. So that must be where they are!

As for me, I always get at little Disney-depressed when I drop them off. Although their touring style is totally different from mine. They relax, they shop, they do whatever and then they eat really, really relaxed meals totally not conducive to my little one. The last trip I did with the two of them was about four-five years ago, right before I got pregnant. It was great, but I'm so in kid/family mode now, I can't even fathom that kind of a trip, even though I used to love them.

And every year, they invite me to come, and every year I have to say no. I absolutely cannot afford to go twice in one year. I can't go by myself and leave DS at home, because DH has to work. I can't even imagine going without DH and DS at this point. But what stinks, is that because my mom is gone, I have to take PTO because there's no one to watch DS. So I basically spend the week at home trying not to think about them having fun. And I cannot even fathom going with DS by myself. I know I'd have them, but what you all may not know is that DH is the man on vacation. He takes over a lot of diaper-changing runs, and chasing after DS, and things I would normally do. Then, to return the favor, I wake up early, and go grab food, and get the ice from the machine at night. It's like a bit of role reversal, we try to give each other a break. Though I love my mom and nana, that just wouldn't be the case, and not to speak poorly of them, it's just a different dynamic. So I am very, very happy for them, but in my own selfish way, I'm bummed, too.

They're staying at Pop, and they'll be going to a Pirate and Princess Party...which means, if they're willing to wait in line, they can meet Jack Sparrow. I would love it if they did. I'll settle for a lovely photo if I can't have the real thing! ;)

They do more signature restaurants, and it's a different kind of vacation, and even though I love my little family, and all the fun we have, I do miss that part of my life.

I think the motion has passed. It's official, "We're all mad here". I feel the same, overwhelmed and bummed, defeated would be a good word too. I just can't figure out how to fit everything in and I know I will be back but I want to get in my favorites and the new things too. ::::SIGH:::::

It stinks you have to use the PTO, so you are off this entire week?? Do you have anything fun planned for you and DS??
I would be a little jealous too! It's perfectally normal. Does your Mom normally go with you in September? I know she isn't this year but I thought you had mentioned that.

I totally feel your pain. I think that we need to relax. And I mean that in a good way. For pete's sake, it's vacation! I'm going to have to talk to DH...he's always so good at getting me back to reality. And reminding me of the trips when we used to wait and see which bus came first, and that was how we decided what park to go to.

I'm off until Friday. My dad is able to watch DS for me on Friday, so I'll be working Friday and Saturday. It's kind of a cool week for me, since I'll work two days and then be off for three days, since I'm normally a Wed-Sat gal. I don't have anything fun planned because after all our running, I want to stay home! :lmao: I do think, however, we will end up going to the park or playground one day if the weather gets warmer. Right now it's so windy! :scared1:

Edit: Yes, mom, nana, and my father-in-law normally come with us in September as well. This year we kicked them out!;) Seriously, they're happy for us going alone, and we plan to do a big family trip next year.

It's windy here too, I was being blown all over the highway on the way home!

I posted this on the theme park board, but I thought why not ask you all as well.

Where's your favorite place to watch Hallowishes at MNSSHP?

Glad to hear that the drive to the airport was uneventful (i.e. DS is still in the dark about where they are going).

I can commiserate with you about being sad that they are going -- I find myself doing that too -- just remember, while you are there, their vacation will be over.

Maybe they will bring you back a little Disney magic (like a souvenir) :thumbsup2 .

It's true, it's true. Perhaps there will be a little Disney magic for me later this week. They usually bring something fun back for DS as well, so that's something to look forward to.:thumbsup2

Alrighty, yesterday we had the list of favorite things.

Then we kissed it up to God.

Today, we make a new list. I have now changed the title of my spreadsheet which had various and sundry "must-do" items listed on it. Instead of being called Dining for 08 - Plan 3AB, it is now called Dining for 08 - With Itinerary.

Then I copied it as a new document, and saved it again, and modified it, yet again. Why am I telling you all this?

Because I call it Dining for 08 - No Itinerary.

That's right, you heard me. No itinerary. My DH will be so proud. Since, I've made a "suggested" itinerary, which I probably will put in a trip binder (if I ever get around to making one ;) ) along with the times of fireworks/shows, I decided to make this.

And it is as follows

Sep 14 - Arrival Day
Sep 15 - Coral Reef, Epcot, 530pm
Sep 16 - Chef Mickey's, Contemporary, 1120am
Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party, 400pm
Sep 17 - Brown Derby, MGM, 1230pm
Sep 18 - Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge, 540pm
Sep 19 - Kona Cafe, Polynesian, 1030am
Sep 20 - Crystal Palace, Magic Kingdom, 1145am
Lapu Lapu Fest, Polynesian, Time Undisclosed ;)
Spectromagic, Magic Kingdom, 800pm

So there you have it folks. My new non-itinerary. Do I still remember everything that was part of the original plan? Sure. Will we follow some of it? Probably.

Do we have to?

Absolutely not.

I am giving in. Other than the things listed above, I am letting go. It is a vacation. Our first pirate's life for three. It should be fun and relaxing. We should wake up in the morning, look at each other and DS, and say, where do you want to go? I don't know, where do you want to go. Or in the case, of early ADRs, when they're over, we'll decide then.

I know that at some point, I will rock in a chair in front of the fireplace, and see the Water Pageant, and kidnap my favorite pirate, and eat a Dole Whip, and a Casey's Hot Dog, and go swimming with my boys. But as far as the order that all happens in, I just don't give a hoot anymore. Well...I would like to kidnap my favorite pirate fairly early on...but we'll leave that all to the imagination...:::must keep G-Rated, must keep G-Rated:::

I think this Non-Itinerary thing is good for you. Really, pirates shouldn't have an Itinerary, it's just not their way. Imagine Jack Sparrow following an Itinerary...hah! pirate:
Mary Poppins on the other hand....

Yes. If we're going to review the three films, Jack Sparrow always has a plan, but is able to modify his plans at any given time to suit his own needs, while still keeping in mind his ultimate goals. You have to love a man who is so unbelievably capable that people totally underestimate him. One of the things I love about that pirate.

So, in true pirate form, we have a plan, our ADRs and the party, and we will be willing to modify anything else at any given time to suit our needs.

ARRRR!:rotfl2:

I should also add my DH will be so happy when I tell him this! He's a go with the flow guy, but having no plans will make him so happy.
