Since I've never seen this discussed, it's probably old news to you all, but I'd love to know what's going on with it.

It sure looks like it would be fun and add to the spirit of Seuss Landing.

Thanks!

There used to be a sticky about it many moons ago.

But no, it will not be opening anytime soon. Rumors about it being "wroked on" or "tested" fly all the time, but still nothing has happened to it.

I agree and I would ride it! Too bad they won't ever open the ride. :sad2:

Why didn't it ever open? When I went back in '99, they advertised it on their website, but when we went, it was closed and the cars were just running with plush Suess characters.

I have waited for years for it to open too..too bad it would have been fun...:(

This is all that it is. There are safety related issues, plus it would have a low capacity-supposedly lower than P-Flyers.

I've heard it's mainly over safety reasons. If the ride stopped with kids on board and the ride needed to be evacuated, how would they do it? You know how kids freak out..they might try to jump instead of waiting for help. Plus, riders who are taller could actually touch the track above them..in certain parts of the ride track. But as I said, I would definately ride it! :teeth:

we just got back, and i saw one car going around the track in the afternoon on wendsday. but no one was aboard. must be testing still.

They aren't testing anything. Those cars are for decoration. The ride will never open.

Sylvester McMonkeyMcbean or a Sneetch are sometimes in the cars, but that's it.

I've heard that before, but it never made sense to me. The same thing would happen on any skyride, or any ride for that matter. What happens if Flying Unicorn stops mid ride? A kid could jump out. Same thing for Pteranodon Flyers. If that stops, kids would be left dangling feet in the air.

There has to be another reason why this ride never opened.

I wish I had a nickel for everytime someone asked me where the entrance for that ride is.

This is a trick question to which there are three answers: No, No and No.
:wave2:

The queue area has become the Grinch's Lair during Grinchmas, though. I think it would be neat to have a year round Grinch's Lair.

Kind of glad cars weren't running on it when we were there, 5 yr old ds would have been even more persistent about riding it, LOL.

Shouldn't they do something with it?... especially since Seuss Landing is the first Island you come to when you naturally go to the right upon entering, and the first impression or feeling you might get when something is not working or designed wrong is that the park is not at it's best, you didn't get your money's worth, etc. I didn't feel this way, but I imagine others would.

Maybe they could fill a car with animatronic characters who come through every half hour with bells and horns and blow bubbles or squirt water down on the kids, or with real characters before they come out for meet and greets? I guess I just hate to see the cute little ride go to waste, LOL.

Thanks for the info!!!

Where is this at I've been to U.S & I.O.A serveral times and never noticed this??

"... especially since Seuss Landing is the first Island you come to when you naturally go to the right upon entering ..."

Can I assume you are a lefty, Snoopymom?

From what I've heard about McBean's - and a whole lot has been written on the subject, mostly idle speculation - emergency ride evacuation is the problem. It seems the ride was designed in such a way that the only way to get someone down from a car stuck between buildings is by a crane. Now, cranes are often used in these cases - not that this comes up very often - but there does not appear to be a way for a crane to access the areas needed without a) blocking the narrow, winding path leading through SL, and b) perhaps doing damage to the walkway, which some think may not be able to properly support said crane. So, in the end, the higher ups might have decided, especially with the massive debt occured building IOA, that the whole thing was too much of a headache and just let it be. Who knows. The guy that built - or should I say paid to build - IOA is an old aquaintance of my Pa, and if I ever run into him again that's something I'll have to ask him ...

Oh, and as far as why I'm speculating on your southpaw status, Snoopymom - most people that are right-handed naturally turn left when entering stores, malls, parks, etc. Lefties go the other way. So here's a tip for IOA newbies - take your first circuit of the islands counter-clockwise, to go against the flow ...

Here's an interesting fact I've heard: daredevil and rebellous teenagers tend to head left first in theme parks. Families and kids tend to lead right first in theme parks. Guess what's to the right and left when you exit the Port of Entry?

spewey, you said that the sidewalks can't handle a crane. Whey they were going to use was a genie lift type of machinery. Painters use this equipment to paint larger buildings. Universal actually owns several of them and they use them in the parks all the time including the walkways of Seuss Landings. To evac the ride they wouldn't have to use a crane, it would be overkill to remove a couple of guests and alot more dangerous than the lift system.

I also don't think that they will remove it since they would have to shut down that side of the park so they could bring in equipment to remove it. That would bring a huge headache to the entire park since it is arranged in a circular path and that would limit the flow of people.
