Will Southwest airfare go down?

Going in Mid June have to fly Southwest as two in our party have free flights. See all the prices pretty much went up today to > $200. Any chance it'll go back down?

Southwest usually has their lower pricing announced on Tuesdays and run through Thursday. Friday - Monday will always have the higher prices. Check on Tuesday of next week and hopefully the cost will be lower!

Agreed. Get on their mailing list for the "click and save specials" and install DING on your smart phone or PC. I have found SWA runs the best specials through DING about 30 days out (IE: I am going in April and in March they started sending specials for April 1-30th; now the specials have all been for May 1st-May 28th the last few days).

DING specials are for the airports you list on your registration. You can always update your registration to add/remove airports. You'll want to make sure and include your home airport on the registration.

Not sure; I live in Sacramento and I do get them for LA area allot but I have gotten some for areas further out (Salt Lake, Phoenix, Seatle, etc). The click and save emails I have gotten for everywhere in the US

Southwest fares adjust VERY differently than other airlines. Other airlines go up and down based on the day, the time, and by how many people are checking and viewing the flights on sites like Kayak and Orbitz. Southwest doesn't use these crazy formulas. Typically they have a set number of seats in each fare class. Say the plane holds 100 passengers. Your best fare would be one of the first people to book. Once x number of seats are filled, they up the fare. They do it again when another X number of seats are filled. Southwest gets more expensive as the flight get closer to being fully booked.

I just booked my airfare, but avoided southwest because they don't have direct flights for me, but that's too bad because I hate paying bag fees. I was able to secure US air for $170 direct one way cross country. Good luck. If you have a smartphone, get the app and set your ding alerts. If not, set them on your computer.

Any thoughts of booking a different airline and flying separately and meeting up?

Gl raising fuel prices & summer means higher prices however I always catch a deal through www.travelzoo.com ....

Southwest did just announce they 'had' to raise flight fares across the board (for the 3rd time this year) due to fuel costs. I wouldn't count on Southwest lowering their fares much as this point, no matter the day of the week.
We actually found better rates (By over $250 total for 4 people) by flying with Frontier this time around.

I just booked our airfare, coming from Chicago to LAX. Southwest has been 199 each way and now is 204 each way. But then I found Virgin America and they are 149 each way so I booked it. Under $900 total for 3 people roundtrip from Chicago to LAX, not sure I could of drove much cheaper.

I have read several articles stating that usually the best time to book a flight is about 6 weeks away from your departure date. But I am uncertain if Southwest is an exception to this rule. In looking at their LOW FARE CALENDER, from CHI to SNA, it looks like all the best rates are within a 30-60 day window.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. After fares raising and raising the last few weeks the STL to San Diego flights got down to $150 (one way range) we decided to book that and will make a trip to San Diego Zoo to start our trip. We're pretty excited!
