Will Soarin' over the World will have a new score?

One of the things I love about Soarin' is the Jerry Goldsmith score. It's actually the reason I warmed up to the attraction (I didn't like it the first time I rode it, just thought it was, blah... got mad about the orange smell from Horizons, too... probably had something to do with it). It was one of his last compositions before he died and I'd hate to see this work of art be taken away and then a possible reprise at the new Reflections of Earth, special events, or something else.

Anyone know? Read anything?

Good question, I agree that the music is terrific. My guess is that they will completely scrap the current theme, or create a revised version of the original music. I don't see them creating an entirely new visual experience bound by the old music.

And, very sadly, the composer of the Soarin' score, Jerry Goldsmith, passed away over ten years ago.

I was wondering the same thing. On our last trip in August, we rode Soarin' as many times as we could knowing that it was probably our last time with the current sights and sounds. When is the updated version supposed to be completed by?

No date or time-frame has been given for the premiere.

No information about the soundtrack, still.

I'm sure Robo will correct me if wrong, but in almost all productions the visual content drives the score and not the other way around. I'd assume a new score will accompany Soarin' Around the World.

I would expect a new soundtrack to match up with the new footage, however I do hope they at least keep some of the cues form Jerry Goldsmith's score, even in a new composition.

It depends on the kind of production.
For instance, "music videos" are almost aways cut to a pre-existing audio track.

In the kind of visceral production of something like Soarin',
the raw visual footage may be made into a rough-cut and the composer can then write musical themes to fit the mood of the scenes.
As the music takes shape, the producer can get a feel (by listening to snippets)
for how scene cuts can be rearranged to enhance the pace of the presentation.
Then the (close-to-final) music track can be drafted and a "scratch track" (often a keyboard version)
can be recorded and the image footage re-timed to match that.

The final score (orchestral, in this case) can be recorded and married to the visual.

In shows like IllumiNations and Wishes, the music track is generally written first,
then the pyro selected and timed to match that.

Excellent, I had a feeling you might know something about this. Of course I completely forgot about music videos, mainly because I gave up on them when they stopped coming out with actual music.

I'm sure there would have to be changes to the score. For example, if the horseback ranch scene was changed to a zebra herd running in Africa, you don't want to keep a southwestern vibe.

I do love the current score, but mostly it is because the score and visuals reflect everything I imagine is great about California, it's land and lifestyle.

I would be shocked if a new score wasn't created, given how much the current score is tied to the visual cues. I'll miss it.

I'm sure there will be a dedicated group of fans that will miss the old music. I have ridden Soarin maybe 5 times over the years and can't remember a thing about the score.
